I asked my daughter what she wanted to do for her 8th birthday. She said, “I want to stay at the haunted hotel”, so we stayed at the Stanley. We didn’t see any ghosts, but it was still really fun.
I worked at the Stanley as my first job. I was a housekeeper when I was 15 years old. I guess it was 1989 or so and I worked for a summer. I’ve been in every room in there! I’m actually from Estes Park, so I’ve been there many times. The tunnel is actually where our break room was back in the day. Cool video, made for a lot of nostalgia.
I lived in Estes Park 2001-2002, and worked at the Stanley. The hotel has changed drastically in 20 years! I actually did a massage for 2 sisters in room 217, very heavy energy in that room. I have some stories from that hotel, as my ex gf did tours there. F O Stanley's wife still enjoys playing the piano. That figure that you had mentioned, is said to be F O Stanley's wife standing at the top of the stairs greeting and watching guests. Word has it that Neil Young and Peter Gabriel stayed at the Stanley while playing Denver.
So happy you made it here! Went here in 2009 and took the ghost tour, touring the tunnels and the room 217…I caught a “ghost” on my digital camera moving down the staircase when nobody was on the stairs at the time, true story! Fantastically STUNNING hotel, Estes Park is the most beautiful city 🫶🏻
I happened to be there when they were filming the mini-series. While on vacation I was headed for the entrance of the Rocky Mountains National Park, and decided to stop to sightsee at the Stanley (being a fan of the novel). A guy stopped me at the bottom of the hill & made me shut off the car engine because they were shooting a scene outside in front of the hotel. It was the scene where Halloran talks with Danny at the swing set. After they finished the scene I was allowed to drive up, park, and walk around the whole property. I was able to take photos of various set pieces, including the mock section of roof that Jack is shown repairing.
That's so freaking cool they made the hedge maze..Fun Fact the exterior shots were filmed here in Oregon at Timberline Lodge! Great Jack impressions Woo 🤣🪓
The maze was filmed on the backlot of MGM Borehamwood Studios in England. The overhead shot of the maze was filmed in the parking lot of the Canterbury Building in Borehamwood, England, with a matte painting added. The maze at night was filmed on Stage 1 at Elstree Studios.
The only shots filmed at the Timberline Lodge were what they call second unit, where no actors were required to be there, but they actually filmed there in the winter where a heavy snowfall covered Mount Hood.
Just a tip you may already know. You can go into Rocky Mountain Nat Park at night and drive up to the pass. It’s the best view of the Galaxy I’ve ever had. You can see the Milky Way spread across the sky. Enjoying your tour of the west

Hey Adam, I'm guessing you're not going down to the southern part of the state like Colorado springs. But here's an idea since you are also a last crusade fan. The house that Indiana and his dad lived in when they were young and seen at the beginning of the film is now a bed and breakfast. There is also a really cool train you can take there. The town is called Antonito and it's on the Colorado New Mexico border. So something to think about for one day. Also if you want to have a good history lesson, I can share some fun information about places down here in Colorado springs. Hope you got to tour Estes park, and see the huge elk that hang around the area.
That's cool I didn't know that easier but did you know the intro scene where young indy finds treasure in a cave was filmed at Double Arch in Arches National Park?
I stayed at the Stanley in April 2007. One of my favorite vacations ever !!! Estes Park is such a great little town, bought my favorite necklace at one of the local artisan's shops, brings back great memories. Colorado overall is such a gorgeous state. I hope to get back there again soon. Again thank you so much for sharing Adam
The Kubrick Shining is one of my fav thriller/horror films, while Dumb & Dumber one of my fav comedies. Great to see this location and all the extras. Thanks, Adam!
Although the mini series (1997) is historically cool documenting The Stanley, I believe the original Kubrick’s, The Shining (1980) is an all time cinematic masterpiece and if anyone attempts a shot by shot remake, Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, in Oregon is the majestic location. Kubrick was the greatest filmmaker with the scariest visual literacy for the initial screenplay. Overall, Cool vlog Adam with great overlooking views.
@@donniev8181 I don't think he hates it as much as he once did, but he still doesn't feel like it has anything to do with his book. The mini-series that he was a part of is more faithful to the book.
Yes, Kubrick’s The Shining is a masterpiece and it’s one of my favorite films. But it is not fair to compare the 1997 version to it. They are completely different. One is a loose adaptation from the creative mind of Stanley Kubrick, and one is a faithful adaptation written by Stephen King himself. They stand on their own.
I'm so glad you got stay in the Stanley, a couple of years ago they were talking about turning it into a museum. I have been there several times and only got creeped out once in the room where the piano was. Really enjoying your Colorado videos as it is my stomping grounds Thanks Adam
We stayed in room 428 (Cowboy Room) and the cowboy woke my sister up in the middle of the night to give her a kiss!!!! Also if you would’ve looked up the stairway to the “5th” floor it says REDRUM on the ceiling. We did the middle of the night ghost tour and I got my hair pulled and felt fingers wrap around my leg to the point where I screamed and ran by the maintenance man in the basement of the ballroom. We also saw Mrs Stanley’s spirit on the balcony of the ballroom.
Jeez, looking down that hallway is creepy... Whenever I hand out money I always do the Jim Carrey "There ya go" line. The staircase is pretty iconic from D&D too since that's where he raced Mary up the stairs and tackled her to win. Love that movie!
Awesome video Adam! I got to stay there a couple yrs ago. Was a bucket list check off for me as The Shining is my favorite horror film. We stayed in 215 which was right next door to 217. So awesome!!
I love that they made the hedge maze because when I found out the maze in the movie wasn't really on the property I was disappointed. I want to stay there someday , good video .
I always love your videos but this was exceptional. Your joy for the history of the hotel and the book, movie, miniseries really shone through. Such a beautiful place thanks for documenting in such an entertaining way.
I'm so happy you went to Estes Park. It is our favorite spots and the Stanley is definitely a must see and the views...aMAzing! Poppy's grill and pizza is highly recommended if you're still in town today.
I'm partial to the Kubrick version myself. The ax going through the door is way more scarier than a croquet mallet. Besides Shelly Duvall's portrayal was actually real. She was traumatized for years. And the ending was so fitting. Seeing Nicholson getting frozen in the snow, I wanted to tell him to "Just Chill!!"
My son and I just watched the 97 miniseries 2 nights ago after my sister returned my book with "Carrie", "'Salem's Lot" and "the Shining" after several years. It is very fresh in my mind. What a beautiful place.
Great experience watching this as you traverse around the areas where the "Ghosts" have been reported to frequent! Another awesome vlog! Thanks for bringing us along.
Wooo so excited you went!! When you said you were going to be in Colorado, I was hoping you’d go here!! The hotel is so beautiful and dumb and dumber!! The stories they told about what happened to Jim Carey are crazy, he still won’t talk about it to this day 😳
Awesome! I’ve stayed there probably over 30 times and only one night was terrifying, sounded like little kids playing in the hallway starting at around 1 am and continued all night. Just as I was falling asleep the blankets were pulled off of me. Didn’t get any sleep it had me so freaked out. There’s definitely an energy there even if you don’t have an experience
I live in Colorado. Estes park is about 45 minutes from me. We get up there in the summer and never leave without going through the Stanley! My girlfriend and I even road the elevator, we had a little tour from a girl that worked as a maid! Fun to watch you enjoy! Thank you Adam
Probably one of my favorite videos on this channel! The Stanley Hotel is definitely on my bucket list as the shining is one of my all time favorite movies. If you ever catch yourself in Portland, Oregon check out the benson! Stayed there a few times and gives similar haunted/old school vibes. There are some ghost stories connected with that place too.
I’ve always wanted to stay at The Stanley Hotel. Estes Park in Colorado is just such a beautiful place. Besides being a Stephen King fan, I’m a Nicholson fan and I think Jack Torrence was one of his best performances. I remember when the Ghost Hunters went there to investigate. They got some great evidence in the employee tunnel in the basement. Very cool place, great video. Thanks Adam.
Oh that’s awesome ! I took the tour when I was there last week and it was very interesting history of the hotel and the Stanley family ….I think Estes Park has been my favorite part of CO to visit ….hopefully Adam you visited the National Park as well while your in the area …FYI we ate at this place called I Need Pie next to Safeway in town and The Beef Stroganoff was awesome..my family had other things on the menu but my sister in law said it’s a must have when they visit …. THANK YOU for this vlog Adam!! I am a huge Stephen King (and The Shining) fan!!! This was frickin’ incredible!! How awesome that you got to stay there!!!
The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, had little to do with the 1980 movie, "The Shining", other than it was Stephen King's haunting inspiration for his blockbuster paperback hit. The movie's Overlook Hotel was a construct, the outside being the actual, Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood, Oregon. The interior hotel scenes were filmed on a soundstage studio in Pinewood Studios, just on the outskirts of London. The director cleverly threaded every scene seamlessly together so that viewers thought the entire movie had been filmed in an actual, classic old hotel. The Timberline Lodge is still on Mount Hood. The interior looks nothing like the 1980 movie. Sadly, there is no such thing as the "Gold Room", the movie's haunted, capacious ball room, bar and lounge.
Really cool video Adam, hopefully tomorrow is the nighttime documentary, noticed there is a white speck on the far right side of frame wondering if lens is dirty. Thanks for all the great videos
Thanks Adam, one of the BEST tours of the Stanley I have seen to date. 🎬 I go to Estes Park frequently, and take my friends into the city itself to shop, eat, and see the mooses. I go to the Stanley at least twice per year, once in the spring and once in the fall/winter, snow providing. 👻You missed the Twin Owls (rock formation) that actually do look like twin owls. I do a lot of Christmas shopping in the city itself, they have cool shops. Estes Park is of my fav cities in Colorado, there's just a "vibe".
I just visited The Stanley Hotel today and did The Shining tour! Couldn’t help but think back to you doing this video a few months ago. I’m honored to say I’ve now stood in the same bathtub as Adam the Woo!
Thanks for coming to our great state of Calirado! Your experience at Sewers field was unfortunate but do come back when the Rays are in town we can share a pint on the rooftop:)
That was awesome. It must be a "funny" feeling standing in those corridors, in particular. I really enjoyed this, and your photo matches. terrific, Adam ❄️👏❄️🤠❄️👏❄️
The Shining is absolutely my favorite movie too! So very well written and acted! BTW Lamborghini does not have Gullwing doors. They're "scissor" doors. 😉
When built in 1909 (Looks great for 113) The guests came to the hotel for the fresh mountain air, however only seasonal, a bit TOO fresh in winter. The account tells of them arriving at the hotel in Stanley Steamer Automobiles and were dumbstruck at the grandeur of the place. A chance to visit you won't forget Adam.
@TheDailyWoo Awesome day for you 🙏👍💖 Now welcome to Colorado. I'm so happy you left Denver. Estes park and Rky Mtn National Park is gorgeous. . God Bless !! You're the best! Corado as a whole is fabulous. When going through the mtns there were many really cool things you drove by and never mentioned. You stopped at Silver Plume but not Georgetown which had tons more mining history as well as movie history. While in Glenwood, just down the road a ways was Aspen absolutely gorgeous you left it out. Denver is a shadow of it's former self but you missed some really cool new areas they are developing. Old candy factory made into lofts with original mural on the side of building. The iron bridges were put in in the late 1980s and they relocated/reused the original old bridges but they aren't in original locations. The huge original Ice House advertisement on building down by Union Station. The old old Saddle Company ad on side of building going into downtown in 15th Street. I could go on for hours of what you missed. While at Red Rocks you didn't mention all of the rattle snakes up there as well as Dinosaur Ridge with real dinasuar tracks all over the side of the mountain. You short changed Colorado compared to other states attractions you have shown. I'm passionate about my state!! 6flags was originally Elitches but was relocated in the 1990s from 38th and Tennyson it's original location in the 1880s. The original Merry Go round house was left as part of a housing development. Old town North Denver. Colorado natives are trying to change the blueness of the state back to red. People downtown and surrounding areas are extremely RUDE! It didn't used to be this way. I'm so sorry. I love your channel Adam.
The Stanley has the best porch seating with view. Love that place. We use to go to Estes Park a lot for vacation. Great video to wake up to. Thanks for bringing back the memories.
The light came on yet AGAIN at the very end lol...yes I remember watching the original "Shining" when I was a little boy...in my grandma's house...I was a Stephen King fan at an early age...but man does that mountain range in the back drop look AWESOME!...Would LOVE to visit in person one day! Bucket list!
Great job! Thanks for the detailed tour of the hotel and grounds. Also, thanks for sharing what the maze is like at night. Was that lady in line in the lobby dressed like the twins on The Shining? 🤔
The large photo seen at 21:20: It had to have been taken in 1920. It surely wasn't 1820 because a). photography hadn't even been invented yet, and b). the hotel hadn't been built yet (didn't open until 1909). Cool tour, Adam!
Wow Adam I stayed there back in 2009 in Estes park in the jelly stone camp ground it was freezing as soon as that sun went behind the mountain and we were there at the 100th anniversary of the Stanley to and ghost hunters was there to

As a Denver native that is one place I have not been and really need to go. My Mom retired to Salida and my in laws are in Buena Vista so we’re just constantly going up there. It’s in Florence?
I read The Shining before I saw the Kubrick version. It was a "Roque" mallet that Jack attacked Wendy with. Roque is a variation of Croquet. Great vid! I wish I could stay at the Stanley and the Timberline. I am not sure I would stay in any of the haunted rooms at the Stanley. LOL!👻👻

Love that movie!
thank you Adam for taking us on The Shining adventure Stanley Hotel so awesome 😎🤩 what a beautiful place spectacular views, great ghost stories
It wasn't a maze anyway. It was a topiary in the book.
I always love your videos but this was exceptional. Your joy for the history of the hotel and the book, movie, miniseries really shone through. Such a beautiful place thanks for documenting in such an entertaining way.
I had no idea about the Dumb & Dumber connection. That makes it even more awesome.
Agreed. It’s not even close , the Kubrick version is superior from a film standpoint
Wow!
I can't believe they charge that much for a room with no AC and windows that don't open. Must suck in the height of summer.
How much was it? I missed it
I live in Colorado.
The shining! …I’ve always wanted to visit that hotel! ..cool vlog!
The morning shake was also awesome it’s like a orange whip if anyone remembers those 😉

Love this type of content. What an experience! Awesome. Thanks for sharing
I like when Adam does stuff like this, I would like to see Adam do a paranormal investigation video that would be a very interesting video indeed
He should do it with Josh and Carpetbagger for Halloween.
THANK YOU for this vlog Adam!! I am a huge Stephen King (and The Shining) fan!!! This was frickin’ incredible!! How awesome that you got to stay there!!!
Wow! You are brave. I’m frightened just listening to your explanation of the ghosts and rooms in this hotel! Yikes! 😧.
Your linear style of editing really helps paint a picture of what it feels like to actually be there. I enjoyed this very much...Thank you ATW.
I literally would not get a bit of sleep there so thanks for the tour. It feels incredibly spooky.
What an awesome experience. I am SUPER jealous! Thanks for sharing 💕
The gold room is in the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite national park, search grimmlifecollective on youtube..have a great day🙂
Oh man that was awesome! Been thoroughly enjoying every second of this road trip. Thanks so very much.

I left a comment on yesterdays video, saying you should check out the Stanley. So happy you had the same idea. Stay safe on your travels.
Such a neat old hotel. The snow capped mountains make it even better.
Thanks for coming to our great state of Calirado! Your experience at Sewers field was unfortunate but do come back when the Rays are in town we can share a pint on the rooftop:)
Awesome Work Bro, Thanks 👍👍😀 Greetings from Helsinki, Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸🇫🇮🇺🇸
That was awesome. It must be a "funny" feeling standing in those corridors, in particular. I really enjoyed this, and your photo matches. terrific, Adam
❄️👏❄️🤠❄️👏❄️
The Shining is absolutely my favorite movie too! So very well written and acted! BTW Lamborghini does not have Gullwing doors. They're "scissor" doors. 😉
When built in 1909 (Looks great for 113) The guests came to the hotel for the fresh mountain air, however only seasonal, a bit TOO fresh in winter. The account tells of them arriving at the hotel in Stanley Steamer Automobiles and were dumbstruck at the grandeur of the place. A chance to visit you won't forget Adam.
So cool Adam! Hubby and I were there in September just touring the grounds. To spooky for me to even think about spending a night.
Love that you stood in the tub! Thanks for sharing!!🙂
So cool you got the room upgrade. Much deserved! Loved this and not even necessarily a Shining fan. Thanks!
The large photo seen at 21:20: It had to have been taken in 1920. It surely wasn't 1820 because a). photography hadn't even been invented yet, and b). the hotel hadn't been built yet (didn't open until 1909). Cool tour, Adam!
Cool video you did. I love old hotels and buildings. I need to see this in person! The history of it wow. I am glad they were able to save it.
Wow Adam I stayed there back in 2009 in Estes park in the jelly stone camp ground it was freezing as soon as that sun went behind the mountain and we were there at the 100th anniversary of the Stanley to and ghost hunters was there to
How fun and exciting, really enjoyed this one!!! Thank you for taking us along😃
I vacationed at Estes Park in 2006 and 2009. Love the area! Ready to go back! We walked thru the Stanley Hotel. Beautiful hotel!
Adam, I must say, I was watching your food reviews from the beginning of the pandemic and you look so much more tone, epic work man. Keep it up :)
I'm from orange county, ca and I worked in estes park for a summer job in 2017 down the street from The Stanley and this video was extremely nostalgic for me 🙂
On a whim a few years back me and a friend called and was able to book room 217 for the following weekend. Great stay! Been back to Estes Park many times since. Love it there.
Wow! That they really embraced the Stephen King novel is awesome.
Adam that mountain range looks awesome hotel looks spooky 👻❤️
Welcome Mr. ATW. We’ve been expecting you!
In the 80’s , when I went to Europe , some people ask me if the US , has history ? 😳🙉🤣 Really people 😳 Wow ! Look at this place …. Spooky but beautiful to me . Being half native, I love hunted places and I believe in ghosts .😊 None if mi kids want to go to places like that with me . Growing up in El Salvador, ( the country side ) THE THINGS THAT GOT TO SEE😳🥹🙃 Very scary but I loved it . Adam , when you go to places like this one , I want to see it , be there and have the same experience you are having. Because of you , I know a lot about this beautiful country THE US ! Thank you for sharing. Blessings to all the beautiful people around the world.🌸💜🙏
I am so excited you are in Colorado! You should visit Bishop Castle. Right up your alley.
LOL!👻👻
It’s one of my favourite Stephen King movies and books. I love the recreation of the carpet in the lodge 😲
ADAM!!! I'm so glad you made it to Estes Park. If you're still there, the museum is a good place to visit in Estes Park. I'll be there at the end of July. I always stay a night at the Stanley. Hope you enjoy your visit!
Such a cool hotel! Loved the book, loved the Kubrick and TV versions. Very creepy hallways.
What a beautiful place! Great video! Book was the best! Kubrick’s was my favorite too.
Wow!! Super cool Vlog!
I was a huge King fan since I was a kid!
So great to see where this classic started! Thanks 😊👻
I shall join you for a tour of the Stanley Hotel. Thanks for the tour.
