Rumi was a teacher of Islamic law and Muslims accepted Jesus as Messiah
But I think Rumi was Muslim which is not consistent with this Buddha-like/Jesus-like message.
Rumi was a Sufi. He came from Balkh in Afghanistan before the Mongol invasion. A part of the world where Buddhist and Greek ideas flourished centuries earlier. Give up your prejudices and just read Rumi's work. He was every bit as enlightened as Jesus or Buddha.
