One of my friends wanted this music to be performed at his wedding. I do believe this is still the only time it was performed in Slovenia. I was one of the singers. The organ part is sometimes quite visicous and choral part is demanding. But we did it very well.
When I worked in Factory 17 , in Omsk, Siberia, one of our workers smuggled a tape of this piece , and distributed it to our most private workers. I never heard such music, but thought their must be a world outside to make such beauty. Our district warden forbid such things, but I listened in secret every night. I finally destroyed the tape so I wouldn't be taken to the jail, and killed, but I always remember.
I must add this was the first Cathedral Choir Festival held in Canada with 3 choirs performing services and a Saturday night concert. Something for Cathedral choirs across North America to contemplate. It was an exquisite experience in the music life of 2013.
David Briggs wrote this over a weekend in his Truro garden for the installation of Bro Michael Ball as Bishop of Truro. It’s one his finest and most popular works. I still love singing it over 30 years later in Truro Cathedral Choir.
I heard this setting at the "Three Cathedral Choirs" held in London Ontario May 3-5 with Cathedral Choirs from St. Paul's London, Detroit, and Buffalo. It is an awesome setting and was equally beautifully executed at the 10am Mass.
