    Glad to see some TLC going on to her her back in shape and a new lease of love. I had the Peugeot version and absolutely *loved* it. Absolutely fantastic little car. Even managed to get me through a snowstorm and up a seriously steep, ungritted icy hill. Pretty sure that was way beyond what Mitsubishi had in mind, but she coped admirably when far bigger and more powerful machines were struggling.

    I have a 2012 model, virtually no rust. Always garaged and no salt water. (except Winter council salt on the roads)
    Battery packed in at 16,000 miles. New one was under guarantee.but would have cost £6,000 if I'd had to pay.
    Some range degradation, but I can't quantify it. Never been fast charged, only charged at home with lead supplied.
    Vacuum pump for brakes replace twice at no cost to me, (Did not fail, manufacturer's recall)
    No other problems. Wonderful to drive.

      What happened to the battery? Was it old or defective? 16000 miles seems short lived. Asking as I'm thinking of buying a 2013 iMev with 24000km on it.

    The thing people have to learn about EV's, the motor is virtually indestructible and should in theory run for hundreds of thousands of miles if not a lot more. The battery pack will eventually fade to zero, but with new and 3rd party battery packs, this car could run for as long as the chassis and body hold up, and even that is down to regular maintenance, just like ANY vehicle.
    They are not like internal combustion engines that require constant attention, more so as they get older, a well maintained EV can and should do hundreds of thousands of miles. With ICE cars, typically you scrap them once the engine is done, yet the car itself could be ok, it's just that they're not worth spending thousands on for a reconditioned engine. EV's are.
    Just a small note, if you take a car for an MOT and they warn you that it'll need a fair amount of work to repair the rust damage.... like they do, next year, next MOT! Do it ASAP so it doesn't become a big job. Spend £100 now and get it sorted or £500 next year.

    • @xXRenaxChanXx
      @xXRenaxChanXx 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Truth sadly though third party batteries don't exist. And if you ask people why, they'll just tell you that you should never replace the battery because "it's too dangerous". And thus that you shouldn't be allowed to replace EV batteries for your own safety.

    • @sailingoctopus1
      @sailingoctopus1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Peter Hicks Yet actually diagnostics should be a piece of cake on a dodgy battery pack. The Canion app plus a USBlink LX Bluetooth scanner (£44) will tell you how many cells are dying. Half an hour to remove the battery pack, twenty minutes with a multimeter to identify the failing cells, ten minutes to slot in replacements and finally half an hour to reinstall the battery pack. In any Lithium Ion battery pack, one or two cells will bear the brunt of any misuse, usually caused by fast charging, so it's likely that replacing one or two cells will cure the problem. The main issue will be sourcing drop-in replacement cells of the same dimensions and with the same connections, but in theory it should be possible to find them for less than £50 each.

    • @sailingoctopus1
      @sailingoctopus1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Peter Hicks Based on the video, yes, half an hour seems about right for a competent mechanic with the right equipment. Remove front passenger seat, remove cover plate, disconnect main fuse, raise ramp, remove three or four cover plates, disconnect main power cables, disconnect various peripherals, support battery pack, undo maybe twenty mounting bolts, lower battery pack to the ground. Described as a relatively easy operation in the video

    • @lmlmd2714
      @lmlmd2714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Peter Hicks Replacing the entire battery pack because of one or two bad cells screwing with the system is like ripping the entire engine out of an ICE because one of the spark plugs has gone. No one with any knowledge of how the car works would do that. You replace the bad cells. For an experienced independent EV repair shop, this isn't a difficult job. Put car on lift. Disconnect battery and drop it down. Crack open the unit. Remove bad cells. Plug in new ones. Close up and reattach. The problem is that most people are neophobic and have an irrational fear of a new things that's different to what they knew before, so see the battery pack as a "magic box" rather than a logical device that is simply a sum of parts that can be broken down, understood and interacted with no different to how people would treat the engine of an ICE.

      @@sailingoctopus1 The Imiev (and it's clones / spin-offs) all used Yuasa cells that, if I recall correctly, are shared with a lot of electric fork-lifts, so shouldn't be too hard to source.

    I have a 2011 iMiev (the one Mitsubishi used in their original brochure!) and it went in for an MOT this week. The mechanic said there is corrosion on the brake pipe underneath and he can't repair it as it goes under the battery pack. It passed but he said he would fail it next year. At a bit of a loss as to what to do. Out local Mitsubishi dealer in Tunbridge Wells have absolutely no experience with an iMiev. Any ideas?

      Easy to chop out the 2 ends either end where the joints are , and replace with new pipe. There is room to feed the new pipe over the top of the pack without removing it.

    Oh crap, I was not aware the iMiev/iOn/c-zero had this problem. We were unexpected in need of a secundairy car and had a great deal on a brand new iOn back in december (last day we had the right to have a government cutback of 4000 euro in my country). Problem is I work at the harbour just next to the sea and when it is windy the waves break at the dam wenre situated and the salt water spray would often form a layer of salt on our cars. So this is asking for the same problems like yours in a while.

      @Peter Hicks I think Belgium had the worst now: so they cut the cutback back in january 2020 (only for folks in the private market), they also cut the reversing electricity counter for people (also only private market) with solar panels. And due of the coronavirus they seek more money, so my guess is they will drop the free yearly tax for EV´s and Hybrids too.😅

    • @glendc2945
      @glendc2945 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Peter Hicks about that counter going backwards forgot to mention they did multiple promises that if you invested in solar panels it was guaranteed you would have that right for 15 years.so 500.000 homes did exaxtly that, and they just dropped that like it was nothing. Belgium at their finest i would say.
