In Germany we have divisions in the army and police, which are doing only sports, a lot of the time, the athletes going to olympia are part of those divisons. So they are earning the same as an soldier or an police officer their rank.
The Olympic Athletes should get paid 3500-5000 just for making the team. Then they should get paid performance incentives the further they make in their respected events.
