iDKHOW finally has a new record coming out, called GLOOM DIVISION, and on it is a studio recorded version of A Letter, which is a cover song from Dallon’s former band, The Brobecks. It’s all about how a girl broke up with him via a letter… and it’s only been performed live. So in anticipation, here’s a “studio” recreation of the live cover version of The Brobecks song, A Letter, performed by iDKHOW. And Fred.
Wow, reading that back was difficult, even I got confused. Yeah… uh, sorry.
I’m curious to see what they do with the spoken word part, since during the live show they’ve used Fred’s robot voice in previous tours, which is what I’ve done here. Originally, former bandmate / drummer Matt Glass provided vocals for the spoken word part, while Dallon did the backing harmony… and since Ryan is no longer apart of the band, and photos of Matt have surfaced from behind the scenes / making of this new record... maybe he will pr it yovide his voice again? Hmmm…
Anyway, I did this recreation awhile ago… made to sound like the live cover version with Fred the robot. However, I’ve since come across a better instrumental of the song, much better than the one I previously used, so the audio quality is much better than my first attempt. My video editing skills have also gotten better since… so yeah, here’s a better version of something I’ve already done, until the official version is released.
This whole description is utterly confusing, I know. Just ignore it and enjoy the video. Ugh… what a mess…

I really don’t know why I’m writing this letter. I just think it must be easier than talking about it. You know, whenever I say to myself, “What if this doesn’t work out?” ...the first person I think of is you. I just hope you never think I only had you around just to pass the time. Please don’t think that.

Yeah, I’ve actually noticed that as well… clickbait culture is such a strange way of boosting popularity. I mean, sure… you’ll get more views if you label your content as such but you’ll turn a lot more people off once they realize it’s BS. I could have labeled this with Gloom Division in the title, and people would have thought maybe it’s a leak. But I’ve never clickbaited before… and not about to start.
But yeah, when I was typing up that description it made perfect sense in my head. When I read it aloud I realized just how confusing it may be for the more casual fan, or the iDKHOW only fans, I made some changes to it but still… what a mess.

I always avoided this song because I thought a spoken word one wouldn't be for me. But the oohs and harmonies in the background hit just right and I can't wait to see what it sounds like on the new record
Same here! Even more curious, Matt Glass (for those who don’t know… was the original drummer and who did the spoken word bits) has been photographed with Dallon in promo / BTS shots… wonder if that means he came in studio for just this specific song only, or if he helped out on other tracks as well. Guess we will find out on Feb…

The sound in this piece is great. The music puts me in mind of 'Ceremony' - a good thing. Drums a bit different though, which adds to the power. I enjoyed the video. Cheers

Hey, no problem… glad you liked it. I’m just super curious if this is how it’ll sound on Gloom Division or if Matt Glass has reprised his original role since we know he’s been in the studio recording drums with Dallon. Guess we will find out in February…
@@SmokeyMcPotProductions Same here! I'm wondering if Dallon himself would do the vocals? It would definitely add a different sound to it. Though if Matt is back in the studio it'll probably be him.
So the robot is “Fred”?
Yeah, this specific text to speech voice was like one of the first widely available on Mac in the early 90s. First time I ever heard it being sampled is on Radiohead’s Paranoid Android. If you have an iPhone, you can switch your Siri voice to this one (which is how I record these kind of bits), there’s dozens of them. But this particular voice is named Fred.
