      Michal Kadlec Hi Mike. I’ve been asked to build some of these but I Farm for a living and stay busy. Granted I have time now because it’s winter here in Montana. But I really don’t want to lol lol. If you tell how much you will sell one for I think I have about 7 orders I can pass on to you!!

      Hi Garland, I sell for USD 144, anyway we are talking about commercial version th-cam.com/video/JXuEHbATUg8/w-d-xo.html
      There is a lot of guys making their jigs and a lot of customers without the necessary equipement, time or something more to do it by themselves and buy it from me. You can find some other information on facebook page facebook.com/JO-knife-sharpening-jig-142065553172262/

      That's what I was gonna say. This way of sharpening knifes was exactly what i was looking for. I was struggling with the problem of setting and keeping a constant and especially a measurable angle, as well as keeping the angle over the curve of the cutting edge. This does it all. I have a very messed up expensive Nakiri knife which was damaged by improper use (not me) and reground by what I would call a "knife butcher" who messed it up completely. I was going to get the knife supplier to do this job, but now I have seen this I think I can tackle the job myself (and probably have the jig pay for itself with this Nakiri only!).

    Your ingenuity is undeniable. That’s one of the coolest home builds I’ve seen. That being said, I’d like to see more instruction and detail on how to actually build the sharpener. And much, much less Benny Hill. Well done though, very innovative.

    Nicely done, but with this system, you cannot select an appropriate angle depending on the knife. But with a slight modification, your machine could do it. Aniway, thanks for sharing, and nice work !

    • @jakandle
      @jakandle 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. The post with the three nuts and the bracket and pivot point is adjustable. The only thing this lacks, say compared to the commercial systems, like the KME is a marked scale for angles but they are meaningless as the angle is dependant on the width of the blade and how close to the pivot post you mount it in the clamp.
      Good luck with yours. I watched the review of the KME by, I think it was a guy called Nick Shabazz. He loved it but went through the price of it and the extra you have to buy...$325-350.
      Unless I was setting up a knife sharpening business...way out of my league.

    • @make_it
      @make_it  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      these are simple tools for me, no CNC, no plasma and you can do all the same with hand tools (except the welding machine). Thans for your comment.

      In general, simple tools refer to hand/akku tools

    • @MrTimmmers
      @MrTimmmers 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of that can be made in plastic, wood or not made at all, glue the metal into the wood or use a screw from the side to lock pieces in place, no need for any of the power tools if you adapt it , just a drill. Consider this the heavy duty version. I'd go for making the angle more adjustable for different edges too, we can all adapt this basic design easily enough. :)

    • @Soulatheunholy
      @Soulatheunholy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm a machinist, and sitting through this I thought that this was very toned down. As Tim said, you could replace alot of the materials so all you'd need would pretty much only be screws to tie your parts together. At work, I would use a lathe and mill to make alot of these parts.

    i create a knife sharpener, i carve the size of the sharpening stone to a 2x4 & place 3 screws at the bottom of the wood to the inside diameter of the 5 gallon bucket so it wont slide out of place,. place water inside the bucket & dip the knife on the water & start sharpening, i also create a guide for the knife to stay on the same angle at all times,. it comes out great,..

    Once that's built, at what degree is the contact? Most people suggest between 22-15°.

    • @make_it
      @make_it  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    If sharpening very narrow blades like scandinavian filleting knives, does the metal fastening brace that holds the knife, interfere with the sharpening stone?
    Anyway, I really like this sharpening jig.
    I send you an email for ordering one....

    Всё-таки нужно предусмотреть регулировку угла заточки.
    Still, it is necessary to provide for the adjustment of the sharpening angle.
    Aún así, es necesario prever el ajuste del ángulo de afilado.

    It is good, but how to adjust the sharpening angle.

    • @aaronsmith1452
      @aaronsmith1452 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Underneath the swivel where the all thread and nut are. Adjusting the nut changes the angle.
