Can't get enough of MK; he's been great for so long, gets better with age. He's never gotten stuck in anything; always moving on and growing, like Dylan in that way. A man of vast feeling-sensitivity, and talent to fully express it.
I don't understand why Mark has always been so unknown. All anyone knows by him is his work with Dire Straits, and from Dire Straits only a few of his hits (this being the result I get when I ask others if they know who Mark Knopfler is). I just wish they could hear this; all of those who have nothing but Sultan's of Swing in their mind. All of those who listen to today's modern popular music. All of those who forgot that real music still exists. Real artists still write. And real artists can move you. He is now 68, and in my opinion he is making the best music of his career. Pray there is no slowing down in him. We need you Mark, keep doing what you're doing. We will always be here to listen.
He's not underrated at all; indeed, MK is deeply appreciated by those who know music. It's simply that today's music scene does not typically play deep, original and authentic musical masterpieces, and prefer to promote the likes of Gaga, Bieber, Kanye & Jayzee. However you chose to interpret that agenda, there are still those of us who have been fortunate enough to have been exposed to great caliber musical masterpieces, and who continue to follow musicians who tend to be, shall we say, 'unplugged from the mainstream.' By being unplugged from formulas, this brilliant mind has been unfettered and free to actually create what are not only musical masterpieces, but life commentaries which deeply touch our souls on so many emotional levels. There are many artists who have done their best work away from the pop agenda. Mark Knopfler is akin to that exquisite & rare red wine, whose caliber and expressive notes continue to expand with time. It's also terrific that with the internet we are able to rediscover the greats more easily! Yes, he is the absolute best!!!
The band became one of the world's best-selling music artists, with records sales of over 100 million. According to the Guinness Book of British Hit Albums, Dire Straits have spent over 1,100 weeks on the UK albums chart, ranking fifth all-time. Brothers in Arms is the eighth-best-selling album in UK chart history. Their career spanned 15 years. This is not underrated.
CheekyBastardEN wtf you are talking about? First cd that I can recal was from dire straits. He might be not the best singer there is but dear lord does it fit to the lyrics he writes and sings...
Easy now! As a fan from the first D.S. album and trough Mark's solo career, i have had the pleasure og standing next to some youngsters at one of his concerts. I asked those young those guys, if they were at the right concert, because most of the people had grey hair... One of the guys replied: "This is real music, played by real musicians, and we love Mark's music!" So you see, there is still hope...
Today is my 50th Birthday and as I am celebrating on solo mode MK's lyrics and guitar works brings back all my journey in life in 50 years...touches me wholistically...he is a "genius" that touches the soul the persona...

Mark's voice has always been my #1 meditation go to. Even in Dire Straits. Such an original. That voice can never be duplicated. And that guitar.....lawd have mercy!!! I married him in my dreams so many times in the last 43 years lol
That is one of my favorite songs that he has written. I know it was from his heart. I'm sure we've all known of a situation , whether friend or family...., where a connection has been broken for whatever reason, but the love is still there and always will be. 😢
Well, this is why I only listen to podcasts in public. When I find music like this, I end up a blubbering mess. MAKING MOVIES was my first album and I've loved Mark Knopfler ever since. I'm new to Ruth Moody but what a heavenly harmony they do make. Now pass me another tissue...
This track makes me emotional so many times. Tonight I was droving home again, with rain, it was getting dark and the raindrops on my windshield where making little lights from the reflections of the lampposts.. I felt so humble.. I say it time after time.. MK's whole discography is the soundtrack for being on the road. And hopefully that soundtrack is getting longer and longer :)
Today is the first time I heard this song. I looked at the date it was posted, and it was a week before I left for a cross country solo road trip. Much has changed in my life since then. Some might ask for better or worse. I can’t really say. It’s just different. Life is short, the road is long. Be well, everyone. Much love.
Somewhere I red that " the art is to hide the art" I didn't know really what It meant. Know it's been 30 years I'm listening to MK and the fact he's underrated made me understand the meaning. Thank u Mark ..we love you.
"There’s a place in my heart Though we’re far apart May you always know No matter how long since I saw you I’ll keep a flame there for you Wherever I go ..." Love this song... Mark Knopfler, so true like always! :)
Mark's music and voice has the uncanny ability to paint over what is decayed and ugly in this often unsettled society that we live in. Like a broad brush his music sweeps over the dark areas of your soul and replenishes it with beautiful colors that that can easily be faded by the rigors of everyday life. Thank you Mr. Knopfler for continuing to give me these little reprieves. May the sun always shine through your window.
I will never forget my dad, you will always shine brighter than the brightest star 🌟. When your dad introduced you to the most amazing artists, this man here is the greatest along side my da. Forever grateful and more ❤.
This will always touch my heart. Always.... for someone I cant live with, but can't live without .. the flame will always be there wherever I go ..... ❤
When I listened for the very first time to this song from the Tracker album I loved it immediately and the voice of Ruth Moody is so awesome. She's a wonderful singer... Thank you for this video.
Yes, thanks to MK I discovered Ruth's career, but also Emilou Harris's and Chet Atkins ! So many names we won't hear off in the netherlands. Somewhere country and folk is dull and boring.. Can't figure it out why.. it's just a great genre inside the 'songwriters' genre !

Trust, communication, loving, honoring, understanding, patience and respecting your partner. So crucial to provide balance. Love Mark and he works so well with Ruth on this lovely dream of a song, a song for a wet February afternoon of a gorgeous sunny day. A song that deserves a glass of good wine.
I remember when I first heard him. 78 I think. After the music Renaissance of the sixties, by the mid 70s RR became more about the visual show. Same thing happened to country by late Eighties. We suffered through disco then punk.aaargh. I heard Sultan's of Swing.....made me stop what I was doing and listen just truly unique music. All these years later he's still doing it
His songs & voice touch my Soul; it doesn't matter how many times I've heard them or how long it's been since I've heard them, there's a comfort there. And like a fine Amaretto they age well, can transport me back to places I'd choose not to remember or take me forward, knowing I survived
I get really tired of people saying that there’s no good music anymore. Yeah, well, turn off your top 40 radio and do a little research. Like this, there are a lot of gems to be heard.
This song means so much to me. Every time I listen to it I can't help but think of my dad who died of lung cancer two years ago. Thank you Mr. Knopfler. Songs like this are hard to find.
Say it while youre alive. You dont want regret on your deathbed. Saying you love someone is a gift. DO it say it. Its not a secret. Its emotion and caring so.... tell them you love them. That's all.
Such a beautiful song! I love the way he can tell a story with each song! I love it when a music artist can tell the story that makes you feel like they’re singing the words of your life! Artist that can do that is so special! Keep up the GREAT job @markknopfler!❤️

But they’ll let you stay awhile
They’re not going to mind
Now I’ve got to leave you, brother
So this round’s mine

I just love this song. It makes me quiet every time I hear It. Thank you for the tears, God bless you.
Me too 🙏
I don't understand why Mark has always been so unknown.
Yes, he is the absolute best!!!
he's not underrated
Thanks so much Mark. Music speaks when words come up short. What a gift you have. Thanks for sharing it with us sir.
Another masterpiece. This song is just faultless in every way.
Today is my 50th Birthday and as I am celebrating on solo mode MK's lyrics and guitar works brings back all my journey in life in 50 years...touches me wholistically...he is a "genius" that touches the soul the persona...
Mark dug up a diamond when he teamed up with Ruth Moody. Like Robert Plant and Allison Kraus. Just beautiful. This song is timeless.
This is one of my favorite song these days. Lost some people in my life and this brings all of them to mind.
How are you doing today Elaine Benczkowski? Its really nice having you on here .. I saw your profile on here and i think we definitely are on the same page on many levels. Trust, communication, loving, honoring, understanding, patience and respecting your partner. So crucial to provide balance. This is what creates such great chemistry between two people that are committed to one another.
Remember I've. Mark my cut. Tuemotubgctu. You CPU ugh
Das ist nicht nur Musik, das ist eine Geschichte. Love it! This is not just music, this is a story.
No songwriter, composer and guitar player can
be as lyrical as Mark Knopfler, Mark Knopfler and Mark Knopfler 😍
Mark Knoppfler has semi classic music as well .
Mark's voice has always been my #1 meditation go to. Even in Dire Straits. Such an original. That voice can never be duplicated. And that guitar.....lawd have mercy!!! I married him in my dreams so many times in the last 43 years lol
Hello how are you doing today???
You silenced my sadness, anger and feelings of betrayal for 6 minutes and 30 seconds. This song is a masterpiece.
Touché
Well put! I totally agree. My feelings 💯
That is one of my favorite songs that he has written. I know it was from his heart. I'm sure we've all known of a situation , whether friend or family...., where a connection has been broken for whatever reason, but the love is still there and always will be. 😢
He could play guitar forever, never too long, so beautiful
Wistful, full of yearning, perfect for all of us who are far away from the ones we love.
Mark, words won't do justice to the joy you've given over all these decades. You'll reside on a cloud someday. Thanks for everything.
What a beautiful song with heartfelt words.
mark playing with ruth voice ...just perfection
This track makes me emotional so many times. Tonight I was droving home again, with rain, it was getting dark and the raindrops on my windshield where making little lights from the reflections of the lampposts.. I felt so humble.. I say it time after time.. MK's whole discography is the soundtrack for being on the road. And hopefully that soundtrack is getting longer and longer :)
Meike, I loved your reflections on rain drops even with two year's time. Sharing your love for MK. Tom
Keep going... May the road be as long and wide as our dreams...
Today is the first time I heard this song. I looked at the date it was posted, and it was a week before I left for a cross country solo road trip. Much has changed in my life since then. Some might ask for better or worse. I can’t really say. It’s just different. Life is short, the road is long. Be well, everyone. Much love.
I couldn't agree more.
Funny, I created a playlist of Knopfler's songs I titled it 'On the road' ❤
SO nice!! "One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain." ~ Bob Marley
Thank you, Sir, it's a miracle.
Somewhere I red that " the art is to hide the art" I didn't know really what It meant. Know it's been 30 years I'm listening to MK and the fact he's underrated made me understand the meaning. Thank u Mark ..we love you.
"There’s a place in my heart
Though we’re far apart
May you always know
No matter how long since I saw you
I’ll keep a flame there for you
Wherever I go
..."
Love this song...
Mark Knopfler, so true like always! :)
❤ this is for you
We lost our son, Ezra in 2021. This song reminds us of him. He was precious.
🤍 I’m so sorry for your loss… I wish you both all the love and I’m sure he guides you through these difficult dark moments with his light.
One of Rock's most underrated composer/musicians...
This man aint underrated?!?!?
Exactly. What a stupid comment.
Not underrated...Mark? You probably listening to him for the first time
There’s legends and then there’s Mark Knopfler ..... most of the rest don’t come close
Mark, you're the best! Thank you for giving our lives a really wonderful soundtrack.
What an amazing comment
Beautifully stated.❤
I will never forget my dad, you will always shine brighter than the brightest star 🌟. When your dad introduced you to the most amazing artists, this man here is the greatest along side my da. Forever grateful and more ❤.
This will always touch my heart. Always.... for someone I cant live with, but can't live without .. the flame will always be there wherever I go ..... ❤
I do not know why, but I could not hold my tears listening to this song! Keep the great work Mark.
because. just because.
Emmanuel Soares that's most of MK songs for me :)
Judy Thompson Yes. That's why. Exactly.
On the nail. I heard it at a bad time for me as well. Power to you!
Mark Knopfler is a creation in continuous motion. Forever surprising. A true artist.

I listen to Mark’s music, no matter what decade it was performed, on an almost daily basis. He is my favorite.
Just beautiful, I can listen to Mark all day. So much sole,
Very sweet song. Great voices, guitar and sax notes. Like a confluence of gentle streams into a great river. Bravo to Mark, Ruth and crew

The barren scenery of Dungeness. My old home area. It will never change. Beautiful music from Mark as always.
Well, there I go crying again what a sad song. But yet it's beautiful at the same time.
Mark Knopfler....what musical talent...such timeless music....thank you...
This languishing song sounds like an anthem. Creeps under my skin and grows firmly into my flesh and in to my soul. In gratitude 💛
brilliant. and a great creative artist who has found his peace and place it seems, when so many great artists never really seem to.
Love Mark and he works so well with Ruth on this lovely dream of a song, a song for a wet February afternoon of a gorgeous sunny day. A song that deserves a glass of good wine.
A fantastic and lovely song.
Beautiful to hear Mark and Ruth together, voice of Angel’s.
🙏❤️❤️🥰🥰🙏

01:04 when Ruth starts to sing!!! goosebumpshower 😍
Ik hou al jaren van hem. Ik begin en eindig mijn dag met Mark.
Mijn liefde--- mijn enige echtgenoot is ook Marc.❤❤

Mark always finds great collaborators. Ruth Moody has the same great vibe. Another beautiful duet.
I take my hat off to you good sir. Thank you for the music and all the joy your music brings.
This has to be the most beautyful songs ever written, Mark really touches my soul.
Mark is the best songwriter ever in my book.
Love his music ❤️
The sinergy between the video and the song is so accurate to express the lonileness of my adult life
Please don't be lonely😊
Lots of Love for Mr. Knopflar.
my only Idol.
one true god of music....
always love his tune & lyrics....
Great Song, thank you Mark, and beside; a very melodic Saxophone solo!! Love it!
I am glad that MK is active on youtube now! The video's awesome!
All these years later he's still doing it
Thank you, Mark, for giving us so much. I don't know if we have earned it.
I just found this song and cannot believe how beautiful it is. Wow. Once again, Mark Knopfler - say no more.
His songs & voice touch my Soul; it doesn't matter how many times I've heard them or how long it's been since I've heard them, there's a comfort there. And like a fine Amaretto they age well, can transport me back to places I'd choose not to remember or take me forward, knowing I survived
Bei dieser Musik, ist ein fallenlassen von Geist und Körper eine Leichtigkeit!
Ein Ohrwurm, wunderbarer
SONG von den beiden.
I get really tired of people saying that there’s no good music anymore. Yeah, well, turn off your top 40 radio and do a little research. Like this, there are a lot of gems to be heard.
Bonita voces inpresionante la musica
This duet has a sensual quality that touches one's soul. The sax is seductive.
Wherever I go, Mark Knopflers songs forever remain in my head :) beautiful....💙
Hello Lynda how are you doing today?
Mark Knopfler is a poet using both words and music to describe the world. We're fortunate he does.
This is truly amazing and Pure! Thanks Mark & Ruth for this collaboration
Wherever you go you will be always in our hearts. The soundtrack of my life. Thanks for sharing your good music among all of us.
Regards.
Beautiful...simply beautiful !
This song means so much to me. Every time I listen to it I can't help but think of my dad who died of lung cancer two years ago. Thank you Mr. Knopfler. Songs like this are hard to find.
Hello Maria how are you doing today???
I’m speechless, breathless this song is brilliant, this for all those like me who loved someone 30 years and never said so..... xoxoxo tks
biggest regret not saying to my dad....i love you
Say it while youre alive. You dont want regret on your deathbed. Saying you love someone is a gift. DO it say it. Its not a secret. Its emotion and caring so.... tell them you love them. That's all.
Hello how are you doing today
Mark knopfler true Legend of music never ceases to amaze!
Such a beautiful song! I love the way he can tell a story with each song! I love it when a music artist can tell the story that makes you feel like they’re singing the words of your life! Artist that can do that is so special! Keep up the GREAT job @markknopfler!❤️
MK cannot write a bad song. What a gift he is.
The purity, the sweetness and the rafinement of a legendary songwriter. Thanks Mark.
Everything I wanted to say but didn't know how to in 3 lines
