I just saw them at McCarren Pool in Brookyn. They are THE best band playing. I am 56 and I've seen the Stones 23 times, Springsteen over 10 times Dylan over 10 times and hundreds of other shows from the Filmore East to Woodstock one, The concert for Bangladesh, Dylan and The Band, Old 97s, Ryan Adams, etc. This was one of the 5 best shows I have ever seen. Tweedy is a genius. If Tweedy had been around in the 60s, we'd be talking about him the way we talk about the Beatles, Dylan, Hendrix...
Every year somebody writes a song that I just can't believe how beautiful it is crafted, played and sung. This was my song of 2007. Fortunately Wilco has three of the best ever in Jesus, Etc..., and " You and I".
Sky blue sky is still the record I always reach for to put on the turn table. It might not be their most inventive, but it’s one of the best rock sounding and total song writing records they have. It’s just them. No 35 tracks of beautiful noise over a song. It’s less raw than ghost, but this one just feels more perfect.
simply my favorite song of all time by any group. every note is perfect. I've seen them live a few times and this song literally brings tears to my eyes. beautiful.
I bought sky blue sky when it came out and I just got the lyrics right now. The link to his wife’s Judaism and the impossible being denied. The subtleness of the unlikely imperial Japan. That’s pretty amazing.
The only Wilco song that has brought tears to my eyes when Nels starts his solo. The version on TH-cam with Derek Trucks is almost as good as the ACL 2005 version
yeah this song and this entire album are on a higher plane in terms of music for me, wilco became one of my favorite bands after this album was released.
@samhandle You mean: in 2030, we will talk about Jeff Tweedy the way we talk about The Beatles... That's a nice compliment, but the comparisons are impossible to support.
Good insight.... im mulling over this and i have mixed thoughts. I wanna say give it some time and people WILL talk about them like the greats youve mentioned, but sadly i think you are right. Civilization is peaking on a trend of decadence, and the creativity of these musicians you mention just isnt appreciated anymore. These things come in waves.
@BloggerMusicMan Jim James, MMJ, live version of War Begun from Austin City limits or a number of other solo's by him. Buckethead Whitewash (vid is simply titled "bucket plays a balad that builds in intensity) Lots of Tom Morello stuff...they're AS good, but yeah this is one of the best solo's of this decade by far... I've seen Nels Cline live quite a few times in small clubs here in Portland back when he was playing with Scotty Amendola and his ise of the Chaos Pad was UNREAL!!!!! Wilco=SICK!
I suppose a lot of us don't make sense some of the time or perhaps more often. I think that the big line of the song after a lot of things that don't make sense like comments on the wars is "nothing more important than to know someone's listening now I know you'll be listening".
This song brings me to my knees every time. Another version, removed by the user, which was my prior favorite. (I believe it was from Jeff's old living room on Dakin Ave.) This one captures the intimacy that hits me in the heart. Where'd you get it? (Kedzie Ave rehearsal space?) THANK you for this.
How are these guys so unknown? what the heck? I just watched a random show last night with these guys playing a concert.. me and my friend fell absolutely in LOVE with these guys.. I'm buying their CD as I speak lol
@4rescue Aw, no worries. It's not a competition with anyone but yourself. How much you can believe in creating your own myth, have courage to share your unabashed self thereby connecting with others on a visceral level? How much time will you dedicate to practicing? Many could cover this song well...but can you carve your own path to connect with people through sound, a reliable resource to call upon to provide emotional outlet for yourself and others?Food for thought. I think Wilco aces it :)
@Raskolnikhov wow you really missed the purpose what music is about, it about opinion if you dont like wilco then dont watch the video and go back to watever music you listened to before.
Possibly one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
Yes. Nels can work. The fretboard as few can. On this planet, anyway..
Nels is sonically intune with the earth
I'd go as far as 'probably'.
It’s my personal favorite
The guitar highlights the incredible lyrics on this track
In all versions of this tune i get thrills when the guitars synchronise and juxtapose at the end. There's something transcendent there.
I just saw them at McCarren Pool in Brookyn. They are THE best band playing. For me, Wilco, Radiohead, and Dawes are the greatest rock bands out there today.
This is .. all else considered .. the definitive version or "Impossible Germany" .. breaks me up every time. Glad it exists.
Thanks!
I think the version from The Ashes of American flag DVD is better.
Literally came to TH-cam to search for a "definitive version" and knew immediately it was this one after hearing the first note.
I find it hard to believe I hadn’t heard this until 3 months ago. Now it’s probably my favourite song. Guitar playing of the highest order.
Pat is overlooked, he's a master entwine in the guitar mix!! He's badass!!
Simply perfect in every detail and every part. One of the best songs of all time. So is the guitar solo.
This is one of Wilco's best songs and it has one of the best guitar solos of all time. Fabulous.
every single version of this song i've viewed here is more amazing than the last....so BRILLIANT
Every year somebody writes a song that I just can't believe how beautiful it is crafted, played and sung. This was my song of 2007. Fortunately Wilco has three of the best ever in Jesus, Etc..., and " You and I".
I could listen to a 12 song album where every song was a different live version of impossible Germany. Thank you!
Fantastic song and solo. The solo part is quite long and sublime. As the one on Light my fire.
jeff tweedy is the song writer of our time.. and sky blue sky has some of the most lyrically provoking songs of ALL time on it... great great band..
Yes fantastic. I think Sky Blue Sky gets lost sometimes amongst other gems like YHF, Ghost and Summerteeth. So many great albums.
That guitar solo just makes me feel, I have to stop and absorb it. Most beautiful music I know.
Incredible songwriting and awesome musicians. I heard this song for the first time today and had goosebumps all over. And over. And over.
Best solo ever played, by the best guitarist in the world.
that tone on the guitar solo is amazing
simply my favorite song of all time by any group.
every note is perfect.
I've seen them live a few times and this song literally brings tears to my eyes. beautiful.
This is one of the best videos I've seen for a song. Such an honest song with a short explanation that makes it all the more beautiful.
best version I've heard of this song... Its really great
I can't understand why the whole world hasn't turned onto this band
Also it looks like John's bass has the Berry Oakley modifications
simply astonishing
top down, sun shinning and that good good free feeling which these guys just give away. thanks again boys. tweedy big love.
この曲のギターサウンドは、とても美しいと思います。
Sky blue skyの中で、On and On and Onと並んで一番好きな曲です。
monaurallab I feel that
Such a beautiful song.
What a masterpiece! 👌🏻
Nels Cline is the man.
Dammmn i really want a jazzmaster guitar
I heard this song at work like.... 1,000 times. I couldn't figure it out until now.
Pretty good song.
that's really cool hearing him talk about it at the end....beautiful song
The guitars are incredible on this of course, but the bass tone is insanely beautiful as well, and the drums just in the pocket the whole time.
a fine piece of music
That solo was especially great. I like the fills Nels does in other versions in the earlier parts, but he murdered this solo
yeah this song and this entire album are on a higher plane in terms of music for me, wilco became one of my favorite bands after this album was released.
@Raskolnikhov wow your com back has shock-en me to my core i will never recover
you heard something good on the radio these days? Congratulations... I'm jealous.
Having never seen Wilco live, it's interesting to see how differently Nels takes the solo here. I always forget to pick up this DVD.
just discovered this amazing song ... wow.
yep-still get goosebumps...
agreed.. these guitars absolutely crush me
@motapop I believe it is a Gibson Barney Kessel - they were made in the 60s and early 70s.
@samhandle You mean: in 2030, we will talk about Jeff Tweedy the way we talk about The Beatles...
That's a nice compliment, but the comparisons are impossible to support.
Jay Bennett would be proud...
so underrated song :(
The whole band is in the pocket here... what a great feeling to create a song like this!!
really need to get this DVD!
next time you eat a heavy dose of mescaline listen to this album....it will blow your mind!!!
Favourite band ever
Good insight.... im mulling over this and i have mixed thoughts. I wanna say give it some time and people WILL talk about them like the greats youve mentioned, but sadly i think you are right. Civilization is peaking on a trend of decadence, and the creativity of these musicians you mention just isnt appreciated anymore. These things come in waves.
jejeje.... I never saw Wilco Live, but I belive you!!!!

This one did so much for me at a time....
A very brilliant song.
Love this song.

Just the best band around today!!!
@samhandle I completely agree with an I think we will be talking about Tweedy in the class of Springsteen, Dylan etc.
I'll say what this means to me // I'll do what I can.
@TheLuciano009 Nyehh, that first part is definitely arguable, but you got the second part absolutely right :p
How are these guys so unknown? what the heck? I just watched a random show last night with these guys playing a concert.. me and my friend fell absolutely in LOVE with these guys.. I'm buying their CD as I speak lol

no you're right... it is a Gibson... he does play a Guitorgan tho... those things are the dope shit!
solo is smooth.
@BloggerMusicMan fictionist has a few songs with solos that can at least compete
@BloggerMusicMan I did really like the solo but Tom Morello's solo on Like a Stone is still my favorite.
Great 🙋🏻👏🏻👍🌹
Boom! Amazing!
this is so cool.
Heard it on the radio, found it on TH-cam, bought it, go back to TH-cam for the extra words. Never censor this; I paid! (I drink. Don't reply)
@BloggerMusicMan
I could name a couple of contenders...but it's all Wilco stuff so I don't know if that actually counts.
nice song
Insane…sounds like studio
wilco rocks!
Just me or does Jeff sound like a very somber Johnny Knoxville in this interview?
fucking beutiful
hardache987654321
Vinicius Krainner
This is music that sounds like Gold. or perhaps... ¿gold that sounds like music?
did you even listen to his discussion at the end of the song?
sublime lead...reminds me of Elliott Randall, no?
@Raskolnikhov Why are you here? Go away. Lady Gaga is playing next door. You just might "get" her.
@Raskolnikhov dude you spelled raskolnikov wrong
Heavens gates open at 2:56
Nice!
Nels Cline is awesome!!
@tzhme i'm sorry, what do you mean?
no its not. Its a 1961 Guitorgan.
@beano3833 Gibson Barney Kessel Custom archtop jazz guitar
I like their live alblum ;D
🔥🎸🔥
nels = win
grolsch beer straplocks = win
it's a win win situation!
tres bien
Nah it's too big to be a Johnny A, pretty certain it's a Barney Kessel. Gorgeous guitar
Germany = Chimney
@samhandle Tweedy would have been Daltrey and Nels would have been Townsend
What just happened to me?
nels cline plays music how i think
@samhandle lucky you i was born in the wrong era...
@Raskolnikhov wow you really missed the purpose what music is about, it about opinion if you dont like wilco then dont watch the video and go back to watever music you listened to before.
