    Because salvation is not a one time act, it's an on-going process. Salvation is becoming more and more like God. When we sin we become less and less like him. We need the grace of God to keep on becoming like him. That is why we ask again and again "Lord, save me!"
    “He that endureth to the end shall be saved” (Matthew 10:22)

      @@darrinrasberryph.d.1458 No Problem. It's up to the discretion of the Bishops and Parish Priests....I have been in Parishes and Monasteries where we were all encouraged to memorize and recite the final Prayer before receiving Communion, especially Stateside. But it's not everywhere. Also, in the States at a couple of Men and Women Monasteries I've experienced sharing the 3 Canons of Prep for Communion with 3 Monks, and whole Community participates in the Akathist. Which is a powerful Spiritual Community Prayer ....Where as on Athos they breeze through it.

    You said it yourself, IF we believe and follow him. It requires an ongoing following. And we trust in the mercy of God, but we still must ask for that mercy, and it is good to ask for it often. We do know that if we are crucified and buried with Christ we will be risen with Him unto eternal life, but one can only know that they have done that when they've endured until the end. Salvation is not a one time act, it is a constant participation in the life of Christ. Without Whom, we can do nothing.

    What would be super cool for us fast hearers would be the words across screen so we have visual depth of meaning and intensity on what we are actually saying. I’m a convert but I would say most of the cradle orthodox I know or have met....well over 80% just say words in repetition ( what Catholic s have always been known for ...from the Protestant) its vain repetition...but I do know now even that is not meaningless... but does have some benefits

    It seemed to me that these fellows and this prayer they were reading had some uncertainty in it, but thats only my opinion. I do not mean to be divisive just sharing my opinion and concern. I would not ask for forgiveness at length but knowing if I confess my sin He hears and forgives and then move on to giving thanks for the certainty that He has forgiven me. Who wrote this prayer any way? Was it an ancient writer?

  • @infowolf1

    I am Orthodox but there seem to be some problems occasionally maybe ignorance or whatever in one of these prayers if I understand right it is saying to the Theotokos to save those of us who sing to you alleluia. That mean praise iah, short form of yhwh. The Theotokos is not part of The Holy Trinity Who is/are YHWH.

    • @noahconstrictor100
      @noahconstrictor100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Alleluia is always about God. So "save us who sing to thee," is to the Theotokos, and Alleluia is just saying "praise God." It could be read as this: "Save us who sing to thee, praise God!"

    • @richardjordan3735
      @richardjordan3735 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noahconstrictor100 Huh? But have you actually made a distinction? I'm not sure your post is clear! The question is how could the blessed Theotokos perform an act of Salvation in the life of a Christian? That act belongs to God: The Blessed Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
      I've listened to this for a little bit now and some of the words definitely seem a bit out of place toward Mary! At 12:50 til around 13:01 the priest actually asks her to fill him with joy... that's a red flag for me!
      Also, there seems to be this oscillating back and forth asking Christ to do Salvific works then Mary...I will admit that in one of the prayers there was an explication of the prayer to Mary; that she would, Implore Christ to move on his behalf!
      Be all that as it may this is one thing that has me pumping the breaks as I think about becoming Orthodox!!

    • @noahconstrictor100
      @noahconstrictor100 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@richardjordan3735 I am not qualified to answer all of your questions. I must very strongly encourage you to talk to a priest about this. However, I will try to give a brief overview, as I understand it.
      The Theotokos couldn't directly save our souls. She's a creation of God, and cannot determine salvation. However, we definitely believe that she can help us out here on Earth, through her prayers. This Canon, and indeed, most of the Jordanville prayer book, from which it was taken, oscillates very frequently between praying to God and "praying" to Mary and other saints. I do think that people should be careful about reserving worship for God alone, and your questions are good ones. I'm willing to keep talking with you, but, please, bring these concerns to a priest, if you can. He will be more qualified to help you than I am.

      @@noahconstrictor100 thanks! Your rejoinder to my comment was truly a distinction! I can assent to a petition for prayer but resent the possibility of any activity exercised that solely belongs to The Blessed Trinity that somehow could be diffused thru Mary!

      This is a service that every Orthodox Christian should be doing (personally) before and every time receiving Holy Communion...Most faithful have never heard of this preparation let alone read this prayer before receiving the Eucharist. Then, after communion there are the proper prayers of thanksgiving which are done after communion and Liturgy...Majority of the people do not know about them either ...
