I just LOVE hearing Bryan get to open up on his baritone part!! This is PHENOMENAL! I also am so happy that they make us wait for the lead to actually take that note up the octave until the last verse! Makes you stay interested!!
Was there to hear this live my senior year (go Chandler High!) and this performance honestly stuck with my so much that I am currently planning on using this as I walk down the aisle at my wedding this fall
2:44 is THE most amazing part, when it sounds like Dan is singing "take me, me", yet his mouth doesn't move. Oh. My. Goodness. (That's clever arr skills!)
Admittedly this took me a good 40 or so seconds to get into, because I love the original so much, but once I got into it, it's a whole different song! Fantastic arrangement and singing.
Bryan in one of those rare talents that has the ability to sing every part. If he chooses to, I can see him winning another gold while singing another part. But then again he is a damn good Bari.
I sing take on me with my aca group and I gotta tell you, hitting that high note and getting the crowd to scream for you is the best feeling in the world
they were one of the teaching quartets at the harmony explosion i attended and when they performed this at our show i cried a bit not gonna lie. these men are so funny and talented, i hope to see them again one day!
As a huge long term fan of a-ha since they first came out, I was scared to watch this. However, being a Barbershopper, I just had to. So glad I did. Good work guys. Respectfully done ✅
Long been a fan of the original. I remember it being one of the first music videos I ever watched on MTV. Despite that 30+ year history with the song, I think I like this version better. Absolutely unbelievable.
To the video comment: this is one of two videos that were life-changing for me - the other was Thriller. They both showed the kind of true art that could be created with a video - and changed my whole perspective on short film forever.
WOW! just Pure talent! One of the BEST things I've heard this year.. thanks guys! you are real heart and notes experts! Can't stop listening to this master piece..! Please continue to bring this huge presents to our world! ❤️🙏✨🌟
This is the best! I've rooted for Drew since he joined the quartet and loved the performances they've done together, but in the back of my mind, I've always kind of missed Ben Harding. This performance completely wins me over!
Ive been at my computer for like an hour with this in one window and another video with a music notation software trying to figure out the harmony of this. This is one of the most beautiful arrangements I've heard and I can't find it anywhere, not even to purchase. I've tried.
After Hours has exclusive rights to the arrangement until September, which is when it's being released. Then, it'll be listed under arrangements by Dan Wessler.
@@joshywashy3453 Dude, no way! I have no idea how people can sing on shows sick, if you do a) don't hurt yourself and b) that is some dedication right there man.
After hours upon hours of practice, it starts to not be funny. My band played take on me in our field show this past year. At first, everyone blasted and made it a big joke, but by the end of the season, no one wanted to hear that song ever again. Except me... I obviously couldn't get enough.

I love to come back and listen to this wonderful rendition of a great song. Of all the bad "music" in the world these days, this just shows what talent really is. Take that, autotune. You can only go so far. Those baritone goosebumps, everytime.
That was so beautiful! Would love to hear a barbershop version of Hunting High and Low (which has always been my fave from Aha). But for now, I will love this song!
This is truly sublime and a beautiful arrangement, delicately handled. Apart from a couple of very minor vocal glitches. I'm surprised there are any dislikes let alone 43! I dont want to focus on the negative but as the audience of primarily young people were enthralled with this LIVE performance; would any of the dislikes care to say why? I dont want to argue and won't, just interested.
We have 2 big convention each year - this video is from our Midwinter convention in January. You can find more information about our events here: www.barbershop.org/events
We also have a week-long education event called Harmony University, held in Nashville, TN in July. This event is more music education focused and a great place to learn about barbershop music and try some singing yourself. Information is here: www.barbershop.org/events/harmony-university
I'm a traditionalist and these guys sing beautifully but it's not Barbershop to me. Having said that, if the society is going to survive and continue to attract new [i.e. young] members it will have to embrace modern music because those who feel like I do are not spring chickens anymore. And even then, I'm definitely on the younger end of that ethos. I joined in 2000 when I was 40 and brought the average age of our chorus "down to 69". It was kind of a running joke with them thanking me for that LOL . We had over 70 members then. I'd say maybe 10 of them are still alive and almost every one are in their 90's. I drifted away a couple of years ago because my new job did not allow for such a travel distance to rehearsal and any time for performing. Last I saw there are only 8 guys in the chorus and only 2 of them were there when I joined and they are now 76 and 83. The whole time I was a member we only had one guy join that was younger than me. Kids would come in and see a bunch of gray haired old men singing Wild Irish Rose and they couldn't get out of there fast enough.
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww (((...not disappointed at that NOTE there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)))THE NOTE, of course!!! niccccccccccccccccccccce!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
That lead singer is friggin amazing. My gosh what control and his tone is so welcoming. Great vibrato too.
Theres a reason they have gold medals around their necks haha

He earned a master's degree in vocal performance. It shows.
I just LOVE hearing Bryan get to open up on his baritone part!! This is PHENOMENAL! I also am so happy that they make us wait for the lead to actually take that note up the octave until the last verse! Makes you stay interested!!
I agree: in their rendition, there's a slow build to the crescendo that really makes the performance brilliant.
Was there to hear this live my senior year (go Chandler High!) and this performance honestly stuck with my so much that I am currently planning on using this as I walk down the aisle at my wedding this fall
that's amazing. congrats
Whenever someone sings "Take On Me" that's their take on Take On Me
My mind is officially blown.
You win sir. You win.
Beautiful.
Oh my god
Well yeah, that's the idea.
Another fantastic Dan Wessler arrangement.
After Hours are amazing. Had the pleasure of singing with them once.
Their cover of Rainbow Connection is beyond stellar.
Yes they are. Highest rated champion ever.
Ah Ha. how clever are After hours. Best song of the 80's Barbershop style. magic.

Same. I was wondering if they were doing the same song, but once the lead came in, I was drawn in.
The arrangement is based on a-ha's remake of the song from 2017 which is a ton slower.

Baritone at 2:45 is spectacular.
PinkHillProps It’s like he’s waited his whole life for that moment 😂 but I think it’s actually the best part of the whole performance.

I also like the high notes from Dan in this situation.
At 0:39 when he sings "Take on me" is also spectacular.
Those few seconds a baritone gets to shine. And yes, I am a baritone :D
Great arrangement of one of the best songs of the 80's.
DUDE! Drew's stubble looks SO GOOD!

This quartet's hairstyles change more often than Australia's Prime Minister.
get wrekt
I was thinking Great Britain's Boris Johnson. You never know where his hair is gonna be from one moment to the next.
so crazy, one of them was my music teacher in elementary school. they are phenomenal
Olivia H was it the one in the left?
Discovered this video yesterday.
Since then I passed my Latin exam, ate a pizza and watched this performance about a hundred times.

Same here. Though for me, it was seeing that After Hours was doing to song. I knew it had to be good if they were singing it!
I'm so glad I was able to go to the Barbershop Harmony Society Midwinter Convention and getting to see this performance in real life ❤
I could see Newfangled Four doing this song, but obviously in a VERY different way lol
Pffft, no doubt. X3
I'd be surprise if either of them didn't bring a wrench, a steering wheel, or a pencil sketch of themselves.
