This is the 1967 15th East African Safari Rally and the winners were Bert Shankland and Chris Rothwell in a Peugeot 404. This is a reminder to users of TH-cam.
An awesome piece of truck history! Thank you for preserving this video! Would love to find the whereabouts of this old Diamond!
I'm here because of Brian Lohnes podcast
Same
This is a significant and interesting chapter of the safari rally history which has never been captured in any publication in Kenya. Thanks for posting. What eventually happened to the Truck,I wonder.
Absolutely amazing. Trucks these days wouldn't make it 20 miles. Gotta love that 8v92 Detroit

My Dad owned a 66 Diamond T with a 67 Reo hood. 238 & a 10 speed. Put many a mile on that truck and it would make a 290 Cummins cry.
Waah this is some prime history. It's a shame that the Iconic East African Safari Rally is no more
Great video .. Just wish it had the audio too
Just one thing... Oldsmobile had nothing to do with this. Diamond Reo was a product of White Motor Company. In 1967 White merged Diamond T and Reo, both of which it owned, to create the Diamond Reo line. Entering this truck was their way of introducing that brand.
I stand corrected. You're right it was sold to White in 1957. Until then, REO (Ransom E. Olds) had been owned by GM.
Awesome!
Wonder were this truck is today.
No idea but if you find out please share with all of us.
They were given a carved elephant tusk - ivory!!!! Wouldn’t be allowed now. Wonder where it is.
It’s in my music room with the racing flag and other random things. 👍🏻
This was clearly a test drive, it has nothing to do with official competition called East African Safari. So the claim it won against all competitors is clearly FALSE. I have the list of all editions' competitors and NEVER any truck was listed as competitor or even allowed to enlist.
What happened to the audio? It use to work on this link.
Brewhammer870 Not sure. It seems to be working on this end. Let me know if it doesn't work on your computer.
King Rose Archives audio wasn't working for me before but its doing fine now. Strange.
Audio not working.......
looks real good, too bad I don't have the patience.
Still doesn't work on my end.
Brewhammer870 Just tried it and I have sound. Not sure what to say.
