I am at my mountain home in San Diego now. At 4200’ elev facing S/E,snow/wind heat is normal. I realize the gravity of the situation. And have been preparing for such an event for years. Pray for us please. TY
Levi, one wind aspect you missed is that if the surface low is west of the mountains it is going to set up pressure gradient from the deserts and a downsloping wind event off of the tall mountains. When Kay came up last year, the downsloping winds reached 110 MPH at Cuyamaca Peak. This time, we will have a stronger, bigger, and closer cyclone to cause those winds at 850 MB to surface as they compress downslope. It could be very dramatic and is reflected on the high resolution computer models.

I just moved from Houston to Palm Springs on Friday and did not have “tropical storm” on my PS bingo card. 😂 Local PS/LA news/weather reports have been pretty much useless. Your broad brush Hillary video was enormously helpful! Can’t tell you how much it means to have your expertise explaining this unique situation. Stay safe, SoCal!

The 💩 is hitting the fan for US weather and it's just the beginning of hurricane season. The abnormally hot, dry summer weather in areas and a tropical storm, possible hurricane hitting southern California are just 2 examples.
Historically, this year will be in the record books. Atlantic hurricane season actually began June 1st and lasts until November 30th, so we’re actually halfway through the season however we’re now in the peak. It’s been a quiet year for us so far so I could get how one could think this was the start. Lol

Interesting to seeing Hilliary coming into SOCA as tropical disturbance with winds 30-35mph floodings trees down power outages and this being historical event. Not TT but I’ll give my opinion. So the sulfur dioxide (SO2) reduction was to help limit air pollution by 10% originally and it seems they expected that it might slightly impact ocean warming conditions in some regard because of SO2’s masking effect in fuel. Personally, I think it’s too early to say how much of an effect it has because of several other factors also contributing to the ocean warming situation, including the current El Niño conditions, underwater volcanic activity in the pacific, and a lack of Saharan dust this year which by itself can cause a near 0.70 (F) degree increase. Unfortunately, I think we’re genuinely going to have to wait a couple years until we’ve gathered enough data but there’s definitely more we can do in the meantime.
