    Found your channel through Desert DIY, and I'm glad I did. Beautiful work! I love painting hope chests. Haven't done anything as fancy as you and your stain layering technique, but I have used steel wool in vinegar to stain the top of my last piece. The bottom was more a creamy white than what you did, but it came out so nice. I can hardly wait to see what other techniques you use. Love learning from people who obviously are way better at painting furniture than I am. Subscribed and liked! 😊

    Have you done that alot? I have so many questions about it. Maybe you can make another video about what kinds of stain mix well and whatever we have to know. Love the cedar chest. It's the first one shaped like that I've seen. I bought a really long one that's low to the ground at a yard sale. It was in rough shape. Thanks for the tip about the date also.

    Beautiful 😍
    I really appreciate all the great information.
    I have been repurposing furniture and you have supplied me with so many useful tips. For example: going from a low sanding grit to a high one whereas I used to do the reverse, using a damp brush with a water base top coat, using a syringe for gluing, watering the chalk paint, how you clean the hardware). WOW.
    Thank you so much ❣
    I look forward to viewing your other videos.
    I do have some questions and I hope you won't find me too annoying.
    • Would you consider or have you ever used a small paint roller instead of a brush when painting a piece of furniture like the one in this video ? I ask because I feel it leaves a smoother finish on the wood, whereas sometimes I can still see some brush strokes. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. If the paint is too thick or if I am using too much of it on the brush. I've tried a few brushes but to no avail. Not familiar with the ones you use. Maybe it's my technique and am not holding and stroking properly.
    • You went over the piece a few times with the chalk paint. Would it not have been as often if the paint was not diluted ? Just curious to know if in watering chalk paint, it can cause you to go over a piece more often due to coverage.
    • How do you know when to use a sponge brush, a bristle brush or a cloth roller ?
    Sorry for all the questions and the long comment.
    Love your channel.
    Congrats on the subs 🎉
    Take care 🤟

    • @UniqueUpcycles
      @UniqueUpcycles 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Not annoying at all. I’d love to answer your questions! I’m not a big fan of rollers because unless you’re painting something completely flat they don’t get into all the edges and details. It really just is a personal preference though. Some chalk paint can be really thick. This particular brand is. If you don’t water it down you’ll definitely get more brush strokes and drag marks. It’s just not very workable when it’s that thick. So for topcoats I only use water based ones and you want to use either a synthetic brush or a foam brush to apply it. Either one works and I switch between back and forth between both of them. Brushes for painting change with the paint brand. If you want a smoother finish usually a synthetic brush will be a better option. If you want more texture go with a natural bristle one. Also different brands are more self leveling and better at hiding brush strokes than others. I would just keep testing out different paints until you find what your looking for. Next weeks video I’m using a brand called Melange for the first time and it’s really smooth. It leveled out beautifully. Hope I answered everything for you!

    Lovely makeover. The top turned out great! My mother still has her 1955 Lane Cedar Chest my grandparents gave her when she got married. And yes, as a kid, I played inside it.
