I'm a new school counselor and I cringe at holding 504 meetings so thank you for this video. I'm loving your channel!
Thank you! They get easier once you get more comfortable!☺️
Hi, do you find it difficult to manage your counseling duties while also doing 504? Like are you still doing classroom groups? Sessions? Lunch bunch? Are you still counseling?
@tashaau80 it can all be done. It’s all about balance and structure. It also depends on the size of your caseload ☺️
I’ve been running 504 meetings all throughout the year, but I remember how nervous I felt at the beginning of the year to run a meeting.
Thank you so much for another great video
Thank you! 504s can be A LOT for new counselors 😂☺️ Trust me, I know
Thank you so much for sharing this video! This is extremely helpful.
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for watching
Love your channel! Thank you for your detailed information 🌸💕

I’m glad it helped ☺️
Thank you sooo much, this help me ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you! I’m glad this video helped.☺️
You’re doing such a great job!
Thank you! ☺️☺️☺️
Hi! Could you do a mock 504 meeting? Maybe go over the process in detail of scheduling, the PWN, the documents that we need to give, and then how you run your meetings? I have searched online and have not really found many resources that show how typical 504 meetings are run.
Do you need a video on the initial meeting to setup a 504 or the re-evaluation meeting? They’re different ☺️
@@counselingwithmrb Both would be great! I get so confused with Re-Evals.
Can you do a mock video of a 504 meeting. I don’t want to be embarrassed .
Was the video ever made ? Would
Love to see it and learn so much from it
Great tips!!! I have my first 504 meeting coming up so this was really helpful. Thanks!
Good luck! I know it’ll be fine. You got this💪🏾
I am a new administrator this video really helps thank you.

I love how detailed this is. I will be addressing 504s on my channel but through using a program my school district uses. It’s so much easier than worrying about the paperwork. It generates everything for you as you complete it. As always, great video!
That’s awesome! It SHOULD be an easy process for as much as we have to do. 😂Thankfully I haven’t had to be the 504 coordinator in a few years but I hope some people find this video helpful! ☺️
What is your program called? I wonder if my school would purchase it?

I think this video may have saved my life! I'm a new 504 coordinator and everything always talks about the rules and policies, but never the actual process. Thank you for being specific with this information!
Thank you! Glad I was able to help
Thank you!! Do you have an ARD video ?
I need help on how to hold an ARD meeting from start to finish
I’ve never held an ARD. I’ve attended them but usually the SPED team hosts them.
...wow they don't do any of these steps for my son's school....
Good video
As a parent for a child that's struggling since kindergarten he's now 9 years old and they're just now giving him a 504 plan I feel like the so-called team is set up to work against the parents of course I'm his biggest advocate and I won't stop educating myself for him but I really wish more people that are so called "team members" for my son's education and emotional wellness
we're a part of a solution to help him & these children like him
and not defenders of the school ,the district laws and budgets... They literally disregard in front of my face all the things that he's struggling with by using terminologies like he's in percentages with his other peers.... The professional at getting away with failing our children and working their ways around the system to never have to give the parents or especially students with disabilities any help
As a parent you have rights. I hate to hear this. You should definitely schedule a meeting.
@@counselingwithmrb thank you so much for your channel and the information you share, I have sent an email to superintendent hopefully it will work 💛
Loved this video. Can I get a transcript of the video for references?
I don’t have a transcript but if you join my Facebook group, you can get an agenda for meetings.
When doing a reevaluation on a student do I still haft to give procedural safeguards and have the parent sign those documents before the meeting . And also will the student need an updated 504 plan ?
Great! As a parent what should I expect during this meeting? How can a prepare my self? What is expected from parents? Thanks
Hi! Be sure to ask questions about the accommodations the team decided upon. Be clear what they mean and how they’ll be implemented 😊
Can you please share where the documents are? Teacher input form and safeguard forms
Hi that depends on where they are housed on your school or district. For example, we use Success Ed and pull those documents from it
Hey. When doing a reevaluation for a 504 student , are we suppose to keep the same accommodations for that student ?
It depends on what the team decides. Typically yes but there may be some adjustments made 😊
Hello. I’m having my first meeting next week on zoom. Do I share my screen with the data and information on the student
Yes you can since the meeting should only have people on the 504 team and the family present ☺️
Thank you.
Special education teachers hold the 504 meetings at our school.
Although I agree that counselors shouldn’t hold 504s, they’re not the same as SPED.
I have one more question: Do me and the team fill out the paperwork right then and there?
Is it an initial 504 meeting?
Yes it is.
My daughters school is forcing principal to be apart of the team. Does she have to be present? If not who do I report this behavior too
The principal or a leadership team member must be present. Do you not like the principal?
@@counselingwithmrb principal is always on power trip. Last 504 meeting she continued to talk over me. I know school psychiatrist and teacher will be there from what was agreed on last year.

I need help. I will be conducting my first meeting this week
What part do you need help with?
Am I suppose to read all the documents or the team?
When I introduce myself what’s the next step? How long should the meeting be
I have never done 504 work before. Do I read the safeguards first. Can you give me a list of steps because I’m nervous and it will probably be about 12 people on this zoom meeting?
I thought the SPED diagnosticians are supposed to do these?
It really depends on the school and district but many counselors are the 504 coordinators.
Yikes! I’d hope the 504 coordinator knows what to have in the meeting.
I don’t have any of this at my sons school. They ignore his 504 and my 3 month request for a 504 meeting
As a parent you have the right to demand a meeting at any time. You should reach out to the board if you have concerns. I hope this is addressed.
