1940s technology that refuses to quit. A true American torque beast. My favorite truck tractor engine by far. Miss these iron beasts on the road. It was great as a child in the early 80s to hear each tractor fill US interstates with beautiful noise. Detroit Diesel 2 strokers will always be a part of American history as the work horse that built this nation.
When I was a kid, the town I lived in had a fleet of 6v92 generals. I could hear those things all the way across town. Everytime one would go down the road I would run inside and hide. And when they were filling in the swamp behind the house using OUR driveway ... my god that was bad. Now I cant get enough of the sound.
We had a lot of GMC Brigadiers pulling car carrier trailers when I was young..those Detroit Diesels used to scare me!! Now I love em'!! Got my CDL in a Ford 9000 powered by a Silver 8V92.
At the farm I used to work for back in 2000-2001, there was an '84 GMC Brigadier with a 6v71 and dual straight stacks. We pulled a hopper bottom hauling corn with it. On a clear day if the wind was blowing right, you could hear that thing take off at the elevator 3 miles away. I miss that old beast...
Now that's how you shift it baby! Love that classic Detroit growl. I grew up surrounded by this sound our buses and fire trucks handle had this engine, they were quite popular in the 80's. This sound brings back a lot of good memories! BTW great video😃👏👍!
Hey Jim hopefully you're still running this ol girl. Love to see a new video of her screaming through the Canadian roads. Love the angry growling sound this truck makes. Thanks for posting these videos sir. Keep trucking & enjoy it. May God bless you & your equipment.
Dang it,I can't stop watching/listening to this,it's my new favorite video! Takes me back to my childhood, standing alongside the road listening to trucks go by.
Hell Yea!!! This is a freaking killer video right here!!! Sounds unbelieveable!!! reminds me of the movie Maxiumum Overdrive!! #1 movie! More videos please!
Bloody better than some 4 stroke engines, ie Cummins - but you do have to look after them a bit more! Running the correct lubricating oil is VERY important! They can gunk up with sludge, which is 90% carbon! They have to be de-coked regularly by hauling a heavy load for a few hours - this avoids the sludgig up of everything, which results in a very costly rebuild!
I listened to one of these every work day for five years back in the late 70's, early 80's...9500 series gmc short nose twin screw....brings back memories...
Nice sounding Detroit, Great "bark" from the pipes- Detroit is not dead yet, GMC just announced the new 4L 3rd generation detroit diesel for the 2010 GM half ton trucks.
Greatest sound I have ever heard thankyou!. Me and my bro were just lobin this because pa used to screwm and old detroit two cycle V6 as well I think 13 speed not sure though.loud like this and I was young
I drove an IH Paystar 8 1/2 yd MTM mixer with a 6-71a and a 9-speed OD Roadranger a LOT and my ears still ring but I always grin when I hear any bus motor. Thanks!
Well its a two stroke motor so all the power is in the top end not like the 4 strokes where all the torque is between 1200 and 2000 depending on the engine
OMG i thought i went back in history of 1981-1985 here at home when we had a strip mine 2 miles out the road . LOL some of the coal buckets that hauled out of here . you could hear them from the mine clear out past the house
true, they are rather gutless as a tuned dodge pickup with the 5.9 in it can doubble the power of a 6-71 but nothing sounds like a detroit as my fav is the dirty dozen 12v71tt
about ten yrs ago I got passed by a jimmy up in Maine... I heard him before he pulled out to pass... and as he went by, there... on the side of the hood... "buzzin' dozen" it was a 12v92, Nothing sounds like that.
if you were following it, you'd want to keep overtaking just so you could hear it go past you again and again. but that would probably irritate the driver. :-/

What a nice sounding truck. They don't make 'em like that any more. I drove a GMC Astro COE in school that had a 318 in it with dual exhaust.
In my opinion brigadiers are some of the best looking trucks ever.
David Vermillion damn right
I agree, those just look so good with that big hood and small cab as well as older 9500s too.
That giant grille and hood just makes it look brutally buff
I agree all the 60s and 70s chevy and GMC trucks all looked damn good from the brigadier to the GMC general to the c60s
The sounds of that gave me the chills. THAT THING SOUNDS BAD ASS!!!! love when he shifts..
it sounds like it's doing about 200mph, but it's doing about 50
If he's lucky and got a tail wind, might make 50 up that grade.
That's not a bad speed for a 671 there no power house but they do alright for only a 7 litre engine.
@@andrewking4885 and make a hell of a good sound doing it 🇺🇸👍
@@deborahchesser7375 Type in "Mud dust and potholes part 2. An Autocar with an 8V71T in the Aussie outback . Loaded up, sounds unreal.
Maybe 50kph, not 50mph@@tommyparlier4987

If you listen carefully, you can hear her saying "C'mon, give me another gear." ;-)
Now that's how you shift it baby! Love that classic Detroit growl. I grew up surrounded by this sound our buses and fire trucks handle had this engine, they were quite popular in the 80's. This sound brings back a lot of good memories! BTW great video😃👏👍!
love these classics especially an old diesel engine and 18 wheeler cutting the gears great vid i want to see more.

My dad was a trucker for 35 years, he once said "A 6-71 does a real good job of converting Diesel into noise"
Mechanical music at its finest
Hell Yea!!! This is a freaking killer video right here!!! Sounds unbelieveable!!! reminds me of the movie Maxiumum Overdrive!! #1 movie! More videos please!
Used 2 drive one like that only was a tandem Hats off To the good old Detroits.LOVE THEM
man that brings me back to my child hood
"I could hear you comin' a mile away!"
Man I can hear coming from 3 years away. Insane
I keep picturing that movie " Maximum Overdrive!" that thing sounds angry!! I like it!
some of the scenes in that movie are a chorus of different detroits.
Awesome! One of the best Detroit Diesel vids on youtube, very clear crisp sound. The Detroit sounds divine.
Screamin Detroit power!
Love the sound of those Jimmy's no matter how cylinders there is. The louder the better as long I'm only listening.
Detroit Diesel = Best music ever!!!!!

That Detroit sounds gooooooood !

Awesome! Wish I could hear that in person.
Sure can hear it coming down the roadway. A good sound.

Its hard not to listen to it sounds so sweet!!
Man, the older generation of truckers must have had so much fun driving these things!
Eh, what did you say sonny? I'm a tad hard of hearing..
@@dwightcorbett8889 if would never get old to me.
The sound of the good old days.

AHHHHHHHHHHH i could listen to that ALL day long its a shame they dont make them like that anymore
music to my ears i miss those trucks
Beautiful sound that’s music to my ears!
EMD locos still do, albeit with wussy silencers and things now. And a lot of marine diesels are 2-strokes too.
loud engines and pipes saves lifes !!!
Bad ass!!!

Ahh, the sweet sounds of a Jimmy two-storke
Like Harleys had their sounds , so did Detroit's.
The difference being, the noise produced by a Detroit means cash in one’s pocket at the end of the day.
What a classic,SCREAMING Detroit Diesel TRUCK sound!! AWESOME!! 🥳🔥😍👍🏾😎a
Drive it all day, hear it all night!
Now thats loud.I could hear it in the UK!!!!!!!!!More please.

Wow! Just truly awesome.
Beautifeul Detroit Note!

Wow......that's music to my ears!

about ten yrs ago I got passed by a jimmy up in Maine... I heard him before he pulled out to pass... and as he went by, there... on the side of the hood... "buzzin' dozen" it was a 12v92, Nothing sounds like that.
