  • In this video resident expert Nick Bigelow shares a few feedback patching tips and tricks with the Korg MS-20 Mini Synthesizer.
The MS-20 played a vital role KORG’s history as a synthesizer brand.Even after sales of the original, released in the late 70’s, came to an end, KORG has carried on the MS-20 tradition in a mini-sized reissue, a software synthesizer plugin, and even a kit version. These were driven by our pride in our synthesizer heritage, our understanding of its historical significance, our responsibility to faithfully carry on the analog circuit technology that we've developed over the years, and our desire to pass on its generation-spanning sound to the future.

the amount of ms20 tutorial videos ive seen that begin with a rlly crazy crunchy sound that are immediately cut off by the artist going "woah okay lets get something a little nicer going!" .. grateful for a video where that's the goal!!

I make Industrial harsh noise / power electronics , and this feedback patching by Nick is vital to my sound.

Thanks a ton for this video. I've almost bought an MS-20 Mini half a dozen times in my musical journey.

Hey guys this is such a stellar video for those of us who have this synth at hand and still want to find new sounds to make with it. Great editing, easy to follow along and love nick's explanation of things.

Thanks for this - yeah that synth sounds gnarly. Definitely cool to play with feedback paths versus distortion as they seem to have a lot of sweet spots with all the different controls.

I like feedback on the MS-20 too, same reasons really with the filters on the external in to fine tune it. But it sounds great on the SH-09 which is a way more basic synth but one that just has that something sonically. It's stayed in the set up longer a few more popular synths.

I love that synth so much!! Even on the iPad App it has that gritty sound 🔥
I thought that the Intellijel Morgasmatron, which is somehow based on it, would do the same sound if I need it for harsh noise recordings and can otherwise use it within the modular system, but the Morgasmatron is much more cleaner and that‘s why I think I have to buy the MS 20 mini -.-
Has someone else experience with real MS20-ish filters in the eurorack world? Befaco BF22 seems to be rough, but haven‘t tested it yet.

Just picked this up, based on your video, and the pedigree of the MS-20. My questions are, what kind of cable are you using for the signal out? And what is a mixer? Can you please link me to some that I can pick up?

I love mine. I want an original one though. I want to eventually reverse engineer my own version of different sections.
    Long live the MS-20
    In all forms.

Hello! Am I able to hook this up to a studio monitor without an audio interface? And is there any certain cable I would need for it to work? Like so I don’t burn out my synth output?

Wouldnt hurt Korg to add an extra output jack to do this
