The lyrics, and an English translation, for anyone who would like to read them: *Original lyrics in Norwegian * Hei, desember, kom så bleik, så vill Som ein iskald vind ifrå nord Sjå kalenderen din så kvit og stor Og som stemma di, heilt tom for ord Om du sit aleine på ein julekveld Treet mitt det lyser óg for deg For om du er aleine på ein julekveld Og du treng det så er songen her til deg Å, kong Vinter, kom med frost og is Kom med snø og sull mitt hjarta inn Hei, desember la meg berre bli Som ein kjærast, som ein gong var min Om du sit aleine på ein julekveld Treet mitt det lyser óg for deg For om du er aleine på ein julekveld Og du treng det så er songen her til deg Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah-ah Hei, desember, kan du vera så snill Kom å gje oss alle eit heilt nytt år La det fryse over så me når Til kvarandre, til ein ny betre vår Om du sit aleine på ein julekveld Treet mitt det lyser óg for deg For om du er aleine på ein julekveld Og du treng det så er songen her til deg Og du treng det så er songen her til deg *English translation* Hi, December, arrive so pale, so wild Like a frosty wind from the North Look, your calendar, so white and broad And like your voice, completely blank, devoid of words If you're sitting alone on a Christmas Eve My tree, it is also glowing for you Cause if you are alone on a Christmas Eve And you need it, then this song is for you Oh, king Winter, come with frost and ice Come with snow and lull my heart in Hi, December let me just stick around Like a lover who once belonged to me If you're sitting alone on a Christmas Eve My tree, it is also glowing for you Cause if you are alone on a Christmas Eve And you need it, then this song is for you Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah-ah Hi, December, could you be so kind Come and give us all a whole new year Let it freeze over so we can reach Eachother, and a new better spring If you're sitting alone on a Christmas Eve My tree, it is also glowing for you Cause if you are alone on a Christmas Eve And you need it, then this song is for you And you need it, then this song is for you
I think I've never thanked you for sharing this English translation, so thank you. I lit on this pretty performance today by Ingebjorg & the gorgeous instrumentalists - what a beautiful combination it is for this song. Thanks again. I'm a singer so the song, vocals & instruments without the words usually are a sufficient for huge beauty. But I also have found from my own experience when the words are there/sung in a language people understand, it can add in signif. unestimable ways. For me personally the text/lyric has added much for me as both a singer of the song and appreciater. Humans
Here's a translation I just made. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful as well: Hi, December, arrive so pale, so wild Like a frosty wind from the North Look, your calendar, so white and broad And like your voice, completely blank, devoid of words If you're sitting alone on a Christmas Eve My tree, it is also glowing for you Cause if you are alone on a Christmas Eve And you need it, then this song is for you Oh, king Winter, come with frost and ice Come with snow and lull my heart in Hi, December let me just stick around Like a lover who once belonged to me If you're sitting alone on a Christmas Eve My tree, it is also glowing for you Cause if you are alone on a Christmas Eve And you need it, then this song is for you Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah-ah Hi, December, could you be so kind Come and give us all a whole new year Let it freeze over so we can reach Eachother, and a new better spring If you're sitting alone on a Christmas Eve My tree, it is also glowing for you Cause if you are alone on a Christmas Eve And you need it, then this song is for you And you need it, then this song is for you
It's actually just the consonant "l". She's singing the word "julekveld" (meaning Christmas evening), where the "d" is silent, but kinda signaling that the vocal "e" should be short, so the "l" gets most of the weight in the word "kveld". It should defy the laws of vowels and consonants, but in this case, singing on the "l" actually makes more sense than pausing on "e" because of this. And also the "l" is pronounced a bit differently in Norwegian than in English as I'm sure you've noticed, which makes this easier. Well, different dialects have different ways of saying "l" in different words. My dialect alone has at least three different distinct ways, and none of them are similar to the english "l", whereas other dialects have "l"'s that are. If I were to say/sing "julekveld" I would actually pronounce each l differently, and both are different from the "l"'s that Ingebjørg's dialect uses. They're also more closed, so I don't think it would sound as good, although it actually does work. I'm not an expert in any way, so these are sort of just my observations, but I hope this helped a bit 😊 And that the dialect part didn't give too much confusion 😅
Okay, I realised I could have explained this way easier by talking about the grammar of double/silent consonants, and how it affects the vowels, instead. So let me know if you'd like to know more about that 😅

Nydelig ❤ det er nok dessverre mange som kunne trengt å høre denne sangen. Ensomhet er aldri tungere enn i julen. En flott dedikasjon til dem. Takk.

En ny desemberlåt! Skal straks på spillelista.
The lyrics for English are in a comment a few comments down. Not needed for the beauty imo, but they add in some big ways, so that's great.

Beautiful ❤️ the tongue placement for the vowel at 1:59 is so unique! Is that common in Norwegian music for prolonging that vowel?
