Interesting to choose Soul Gem over Myrradin. Personally, I don’t think Soul Gem is a particularly good item right now, but I could see scenarios where it’s good. Considering how powerful tanks are going to be soon, it seems risky to limit the amount of pen in the build order. We’ll see how the meta shakes out, but I think Soul Gem isn’t going to be worth unless you’re already ahead.

Let me tell you a little secret. Build soul gem 3rd on 90% of mages because the sustain it gives you will push teamfights and the like into your favor. The game is won by the time you finish your 3rd item, sometimes it lasts longer than that but having a soul gem for self and team sustain especially around objectives helps against poke just enough to tilt things into your favor.

@@Balila_balbal_loki Remember: I’m not necessarily talking about the current meta. I mentioned in my post the upcoming patch in which tanks are going to be very powerful (mostly Warriors out of solo lane and of course Assassins in the jungle). The sustain during teamfights isn’t (or won’t be) very relevant when junglers and solo laners can one-shot you very easily. I’m also not sure how relevant poke will be once you get your third item online since (as you pointed out) games end very quickly now. Again: we’ll see how the meta shakes out, but I’m not confident that Soul Gem will see much use at the Diamond level above. Just my opinion, however. We’ll have to wait and see.

@@TheTouristArrives So i waited until after playing the patch to confirm this, it the only way to play vs king arthurs and artio rn. They got too much healing so deso, divine into soul gem feels amazing by just spamming abilities you are chunking and they can't sustain in a fight as well as your team is being healed while they don't have anti-heal.
