The screeching really adds to the what-the-hell-is-going-on ambience 😂. So many Asia scenes. And some random ones thrown in..why NOT?!
Well, the ride already is 40 years old, it is defnitely not a representattion of the whole park.
That dragon at 2:00 in definitely fell over and no-one's bothered to stand it back up again haha.
Sadly it's been like that for over 10 years now.
They added the death character to the dragon scene - so now it's "after the fight" :-)

Phantasialand doesn't refurb it's dark rides, they kill them. They had 4 literal german classics, and instead of fixing them up, they kill each and every one of them.
(full disclosure i know nothing really about Chinese Mythology and folklore or Ghost Train Rides, so I'm in no position to talk about that stuff;) Honestly, aside from some of the dated animatronic movements, the brightness of some of the scenes (to where you could see the ceiling and emergency stairs), and of course the *lovely* screeching sounds, I thought this was very interesting?
Like looking at the lighting choices for some of the scenes and the attention to detail that they had was honestly pretty cool to me. That one scene in what i think was a graveyard at around 2:27 was really neat with the red light reveal inside contrasting the cool colors outside.
Maybe I'm just easily entertained, or it doesn't look as good in-person, but I still think it's pretty gnarly. Gonna go try to read up on some of the stories the ride depicted.

It sure has some potential. The ride itself isn't that bad as some people would say. It just needs a mayor refurbishment. Especially the animatronics. They just look like they have bin neglected for years. Wich is really a shame.
I think the concept and creativity are wonderful. This would be a blockbuster, if only it were updated!
If they only added led lights and make it a lot darker would already make a huge difference
They've been redoing the light plans for most scenes lately and they kind of suck. It used to be a lot darker.

I find it a really cool ride, I just have 0 ideas of what chinese mythology is like, making everything look generic-with-a-slightly-chinese-twist on it to me as a result. Like, the ‘ballroom scene’ is probably related to the jade emperor and the ghost boat is probably the chinise equivalent of the greek crossing the styx, but that’s where any of my understanding stops. And that’s a shame really, because I’m convinced that there’s a bunch of designers out there that worked their hart out to research chinese mythology to make this ride, only for *nobody to understand what the heck is going on* because we’re raised with greek mythology, not the chinese one.

I rode this when my school did an exchange trip with a German school in Iserlohn. I was as bemused back then. The area it's in was lovely even back then. It doesn't need to go, it just needs to change. Especially after all the work the park has done to be exceptional.

Not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing, that this ride is still working after all this years.The first time I rode it was at least 30 years ago (according to Wikipedia it was opened in 1981). Judging from the video it still looks the same as ever, only the ghost mirror effect seemed to be different.
This ride would be better for 🎃👻!

This is a 40 year old ride, so it opened way before the Little Mermaid...
It's literally called Geister Ricksha which means Ghost Ricksha. So you're riding on a Ricksha
If I ever ride this, I'll be sure to bring a can of WD40.

that's a shame. the attraction is nice, there are great sets, but we can see that it is aging. between the animatronics that make cardboard, the light that is too strong and does not highlight and finally, the most horrible of all, the infernal noise of the omnimover running out of grease.
a rehabilitation of the attraction could be a real plus!

This ride needs some grease. Wow.
It's already 40 years old and the Park struggels to find replacement parts. In a few years it will be closed probably and then the ride will probably be improved to get the Disney-Level theming Phantasialand is known for.
@@mstrmren Grease isn't exactly a hard to come by replacement part lol. They're still maintaining the ride system just fine.

@@mstrmren raik viel zu kurz fürs lange anstehen. Geister rikscha ist wenigstens ein Nostalgie Klassiker darkride (der letzte noch stehende klassik darkride). Viele verstehen einfach nicht wie schwer es ist, diese Attraktion zu entfernen. Zum Glück ist sie noch da :)

As an Asian Chinese, I feel this Rikscha's mixed Asian hell style bit weird, for example there is no Yama or ox head horse face, but I'm still glad Germany willing to try an Asian style hell Rikscha.

Yea, it's very confusing as it seems like a blend between Asian and Western theming without knowing which one to stick with. Also the dragons looked more western-inspired than the typical Asian looking ones too. It's not bad at all, just rather confusing sometimes.

It's a pretty high budget ride, the ride system, all the big scenes.
It's a shame they did not really flesh out a story, with this budget they could have done something completely different and cool.

This extreme screeching is definitive not normal, just bad luck :(
The ride is from 1981 (Schwarzkopf), so it's an oldie which of course would need a big rehab. The most part is underground under the China Town theme area, so you can imagine they maybe don't put a lot of money in this attraction and think about big changes. I still like the ideas of most scenes with asian tales!

The Park got a lot of awards from the Chinese government, since they also have a Chinese themed Hotel which is the biggest Chinise building outside of Asia

so this is where all failed Imagineers went. There's reason why Shanghai doesn't have a Haunted Mansion. It's consider bad luck to glorify ghost in Chinese culture.
