While I respect your opinion, I do believe you to be incorrect. The most common interpretation in respected circles is, "why I eyes ya." While you can argue that this isn't "grammatically correct" art isn't beholden to any conventions, it can be abstract and interpretive.
In this case, I believe that the peculiar dialect the author employs with this line is tongue in cheek, as if to say, "I understand the conventions and *choose* to ignore them." In humorous juxtaposition to the sublimely articulate language used in the rest of the composition.

Miles hissed at Don, baring his teeth in defiance. But Don merely laughed, his eyes glinting with madness. "I've been waiting for this moment, feline," he said, taking a step closer to Miles. "And now that I have found you, I will have what is mine." With that, Don lunged forward, his cutlass swinging towards Miles.
As the blade whistled through the air, Miles sprang into action. He dodged Don’s attack, clawing at the captain's face. But Don was quick and strong, and he soon had Miles pinned to the ground. The pirate captain raised his cutlass high, ready to strike. Suddenly, there was a flash of silver and a deafening roar. Miles looked up to see Long John Johnson, sword in hand, charging towards them. The battle was about to begin.
Long John Johnson was a legend among pirates. His exploits were known far and wide, and he had a fearsome reputation. He was also fiercely loyal to those he considered friends, and he considered Miles to be one of them. As Don Piano raised his cutlass, ready to strike down Miles, Long John Johnson leapt into action. He swung his sword with all his might, blocking Don's attack and sending him stumbling back.
The two pirates circled each other warily, their swords held at the ready. Don Piano was no match for Long John Johnson, but he was desperate. He knew that if he didn't strike now, he never would. With a roar, he charged forward, his cutlass flashing in the sunlight. But Long John Johnson was too fast. He sidestepped the attack and plunged his sword deep into Don's chest. With a gasp, Don Piano crumpled to the ground, dead.
Long John Johnson sheathed his sword and turned to Miles. "Well, my friend," he said, ruffling Miles' fur. "That was a close call. But we've survived another day." Together, they walked back to their hideout, their heads held high. For they were pirates, and they knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.
