I feel like you're better off going down to floor 4 and stepping on the alarm, the next square will always be an encounter and the monsters down there arent much stronger. Scaling in this game is so weird, you can get to level 4 or 5 extremely easy on floor 1 alone but going from 6-9 takes so much longer despite having good mage spells. Then the grind from 9-13 is way too long even if you're risking the RNG BS that goes on down in floor 9 (a surprise from an ogre lord group is enough alone to wipe you or even just a big multi pack of ogre lords + ninjas + other stuff etc). Yeah the game is hard, but mostly because there's nothing to all the floors, they're extremely empty and the difficulty comes from the RNG of running into a fight with 4+ groups of monsters when most are one group. I love DRPGS and wasn't alive when this came out, so I can respect it. But my god they didn't even try to balance it or fill it out in any meaningful way.

I agree the leveling is unbalanced and all the good loot is on floor 9 and 10. I have finished the game and still get destoryed on floor 10 but that is what I enjoy about the game. you have easy encounters and than an encounter that just destroy you.

@terrymills810 I built up evil characters and did only strength and luck. I kill both in 4 rounds or less usually without using AC penalty spells. I'm at 11, almost 12. Hope there's a faster way in the lower levels.

If you spin in a circle you will still have a chance to trigger random encounters.
