The dagger has the second highest dagger Atk. Good for Shadow Walk too since it doesn’t have Recoil% like Fallen Angel. Srd 1% may not seem like a lot but, it’s a multiplier increase which is also good like Atk% even though it’s not as much. Definitely a 10/10 dagger. Very good as a lot of Halb users needed one like this.
Vodre is a tank/support xtal, not a DPS one. The selling point is actually based in Anticipate alongside the resistance stats. For a tank the last thing you want to do is miss an attack, even to Evasion. The loss of crit dmg means nothing because tanks don’t deal damage anyway. What’s more support players wouldn’t get butchered by Vodre’s Crit damage loss if you prioritize hitting the target with fts (flinch, tumble, stun) or ailments to debuff boss.
Water priest robe might actually be a good tank Katana gear. Feels like the developers are saying Tank Katana should be a viable build path now…although you have get it after playing through nearly the whole game -_-
I already did that, so if you wouldn’t mind here’s some notes. 1. You need to play around all invincibility and dmg nullification skills to survive the early game. Skills like max Lvl Zantei, Bouncing Blade, Magadachi, to name a few, as you will be using combos with these skills to generate Aggro and protect yourself. 2.Wear heavy armor remodeled gear so you can guard; heavy armor remodeling adds guard power and recharge to the user regardless of weapon and with guard skills you can further increase the effectiveness of it’s damage reduction. Be sure to use a dagger sub as well, I recommend Parrying Dagger from NPC blacksmith, it gives 15% guard power & recharge. Note: whenever you guard there is a number around the guard button, indicating the percentage of dmg that will be reduced when guarding. This number changes based on weapon type, for katana the base amount is 50, so you have 50% dmg reduction on your first guard and with Parrying Dagger this becomes 65%. Do be careful because your guard can break and only handle as much dmg as you can take, for this reason where gears with a lot of physical & Magical Resist to survive fights, and make sure you use Protection & Aegis for all battles after reaching lvl 122+ (both skills can be easily combo’d to reduce mp cost). 3. Have Dancer skills, if this wasn’t obvious enough you need dancer skills to help with survival more so than utility. Skills like Elegant Poise & Nature’s Wonder are useful but both should be maxed for more dmg reduction and healing based on your Max HP. This is not almighty though because both waste time to fully activate, opening you up to massive retaliation, even if you know the boss fight and can use the skills in your break time between attacks. “Why not Heal?”, you may wonder, because katana tank cannot let up on his assault on the boss. The moment you stop fighting the boss you lose Aggro that you generated through your the fight, even with high Aggro modifying gears you can still lose it all to a mage who spams finale or a dual wield who attacks faster than you. Aggro is about consistency in application, and because you don’t have skills like guardian to continually pump out Aggro by existing, nor do you have pdef to get Aggro while parrying with invincibility, every battle is an uphill battle for control. 4.Use potions, they are your ultimate source of survival. Normal tanks don’t actually need potions (although many prefer Aggro-tonic) outside of specific high lvl content, like say High Lvl Hunting Event, Guild Raids, and higher lvl Events, most potions are ignored (well at least I ignore them). When tanking you can really heavily on inherit tankiness via skills and gear more so than potions to reduce dmg, heal self, and ultimately not die, so your team can by proxy not die. Katana tank throws all that out the window. Katana has no way to heal naturally, even if you used Combo tags like bloodsucker you can’t heal off of most your skill damage because most of katana skill damage is tied to their stats (DEX) to reliably give them power and with bosses having insanely high resistances themselves your lifesteal is cut all the way down. One more thing, if you use Nature’s Wonder to heal yourself mid fight, which I did, you need to be careful when you’re around allies because Nature’s healing is split between you and them evenly, that includes pets. You have to high HP to get higher amount of healing even if it gets split, and this is just a stop-gap measure because you need to rely on potions, like Revitas to heal yourself back to full anyway. When playing as a Katana tank, you are not playing to protect your team you are literally waiting for your team to kill the boss so as you don’t die. You maybe fighting the boss, but it feels more like you are a prisoner in locked combat with a jailer waiting for the bail payout. Frustration aside, Katana tank is a cool idea until you actually play it.
