He is making a difference between the office of the governor(who by law has to to accede to the appointment of kings) and the person of the king. As a person, he would prostrate to kings and Makinde would prostrate to him. But as a citizen, he would respect the governor and kings should do the same.

Obasanjo was not demanding that the Kings should honor the Governor by standing up, to fulfill Obasanjo's selfish egotistical interest. It is to correct and reinforce the need to follow the Yoruba practice of honoring leaders according to their ranking in the order of who comes highest as a leader, as selected by the will of the people( God who is the only creator of sovereignty has invested His sovereignty in every person he created- that is why sovereignty belongs to the people ), selected either by voting or by any other just means determined by the people. Obasanjo was saying that these Yoruba Kings had violated this sacred Yoruba practice: that they as Yoruba citizens and role models were supposed to defend by putting it into practice.

FM: President Obasanjo is 💯 correct. Let me substantiate my view : A King is a royal leader of Sartain group or faction of people leaving or occupying a geographic territory . Who's duity is to ensure peace and tranquility rain in the land. While the President and Governors have enomonus power to protect lives and properties through the use and control of Army , Police force etc. Ceate and bring about social infrastructural development in the Land. Both the Governor and the President have the Power to declare a state of imagency but the King can not. Both the Governor and President while in office have immunity Claus while the King don't. The president control the Entire Nation including the Army forces as a whole and while each Governor act in the capacity of a president in their respective States. If any state have any crises the president will not call on the King rather he will call on the governor. if the state fails the local people or the settlers won't blame the King rather they will put all the blames on the Governor , in like manner if a Nation fails they won't blame the King's in the various states but rather the blames will be on the President . This show that both the Governor's and President play more significant role in the lives of its citizenry then the kings, Infarcts no basic for comparerism . Even all the King's in Nigeria No one is exampted they are all looking for one favour from Governors or President. In summary both the Governor and the President are more Powerful then any other king's. Don't fight for the King's they know better. And that is why they Obey OBJ. So guys STOP fighting for the Kings. And face the reality. One love to all tribe in Nigeria.

Are those Kings not chosen by the governors whether in Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo states?
Did Gandollar not depose His Majesty Emir Lamido Sanusi Lamido effortlessly?
What did the Emirs, Obas, Obis did, they didn't even utter a word about it.
Did we not have about 7 ceremonial kings in Ibadan city, aside the real Olubadan, constituted by the previous governor without any legal or traditional backing, what did the traditional rulers all over the country do about it, nothing.
Traditional rulers have lost their respect ever since Baba Awolowo sent Alaafin and Awujale to exile in the 60's.

In Yoruba culture, you do not rebuke an Oba publicly but you could address them and rebuke or educate them privately.
Even if a Yoruba Oba prostrate for you privately, you dare not declare that publicly.
I have great respect for Baba Obasanjo, but this time he got this approach at Iseyin very very wrong.
Commanding all these Ori Ade, to Stand up ,and seat down like the school prefect command of the Old school days is a ridicule of the traditional prestige of the Yorubas.
Baba Obasanjo should have demanded to see the kabiyesi in camera, and seriously educate them on their so called breach of governmental protocol.
Every geniue son of Yoruba must be ashamed of the humiliation of these costordian of our tradition in the public like Baba Obasanjo just did at Iseyin.
Please Baba tender apology to all Yoruba obas both in Nigeria ,and in the diaspora.

The monarch themselves made mistakes, they knew or supposed to know that it is against their tradition for a traditional ruler to stand in occasion like this, so no matter who had given that order they supposed not to obey, they should have sat down and told the person it is against their tradition. So blaming anybody now is medicine after death, I believe if Obasanjo was one of them sitting down and someone else ordered them to stand up Obasanjo will not stand up. This is what evil money can cause, when leaders are collecting evil money, it blind their eyes and derail their brain.

To me personally, I don't believe Obasanjo is wrong here.
Obas need to and must be respected by all and sundry. But in today Nigeria, many things have seriously changed in our culture just like the way we were doing marriage and burial in olden days compared to how we are doing it today. Even the way we install obas in olden days is different from the way it is being done today. According to obasanjo and with little I know about our constitution, government owns obas and the land on which their palace are built. This simply means Gov. Seyi Makinde is superior to any oba while he is still serving. Therefore, Obas should respect him as number one citizen in Oyo State.
Contrary to what I heard from the news and what people are saying around, from this video I watched, obasanjo didn't ordered obas to stand up for him but for Gov. Seyi Makinde.
No oba disagreed with him or disagreed to what he said which shows Baba Obasanjo is correct, he reminded them what they have forgotten. If baba Obasanjo doesn't have the power to do so, who then has the power to do so?

We have gone past the days when kings, Emirs , Chiefs and Obas were the rulers of govt . You can not compare an independent state and govt with the pre-colonial and colonial days where the traditional rulers were the ones ruling on behalf of the colonial masters. A king ruling over a few section of the state , appointed by few representatives of that few section and whose appointment is confirmed and coronated and given staff of office by the state Governor elected by the people of the whole state to govern the entire state and given all the powers to appoint and remove the king under his state by the Constitution of the land, who is more powerful?
The truth is the Governor is most powerful over them but for the sake of respect for culture and tradition, the governors never use their powers over them except in rare cases. But I think respect is reciprocal. Any Oba that fails to give the Governor his due respect is not worthy to be Oba because the seat of a Governor is a creation of the constitution and every segment of the state be it traditional, religious, cultural etc must respect the office according to protocol even if the Governor is a small boy.
