Sad days indeed, steam was withdrawn far too early as some we're not even close to 10 years old. Some only lasted 5 years but wonder how long the Bulleid Pacific's could have actually lasted in service as the rebuilt examples weren't even that old.
I concur. My brother and myself were on that special pulled by 35028. Definitely 2nd July. Tickets were a special colour, almost pink. 82019 helped push us out and made a memorable racket.
I agree - I would have been standing on the platform at Waterloo when the No. 1 and No. 2 Specials left Waterloo on 2nd July. Great to see decent quality colour film of their departures!
35008 also hauled the No. 1 Special out of Waterloo before No. 35028's departure with the No. 2, so the order of events in these films is being shown out of sequence. This doesn't diminish their value.
Moving along the line of promotion at Nine Elms was very rapid in the sixties so no surprise they look so young
FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC video my good and dear friend, it really is fantastic 🤩🤩🤩🤩. Like 👍!!!!!!
Possibly some of my Bournemouth & Salisbury depot colleagues on the Up services. I started in 1987 so there were still a lot of steam men left.
Fantastic, thanks for sharing this of days I remember so well

Steam could have lasted another 20 years but it was rushed out the br stands and the rebuilt bullieds where a waste
From my research /sources the rebuilt MN/BoB/WC were scheduled to be gone by 1987
@@daystatesniper01 Not long before these junkers are towed down to Cashmores in South Wales for cutting.
1:33 This Locomotive Clan Line Is Also Started In The 150th Anniversary Of The Stockton And Darlington Railway In 1975. Awesome. Thanks Mate. X
Interesting seeing the warship which is also long gone
The driver, at the beginning of this film, seems so young. Doesn't look much over 30!
I was thinking the same thing. Both driver and fireman look so young and yet so experienced.
Looks like Bob D'eath of Basingstoke shed, who had two 100mph runs in the final week with the 18:38 Salisbury - Waterloo.
3rd jan 1964 35008 orient line took us to southampton --the last i saw was the left number and name as we boarded the fairsea for australia-----cheers
Sad the merchant navey has no smoke box door number plate
Not the last day which was July 9. This was July 2, when 2 specials ran with 35028 and 35008. Neither loco worked on the last weekend.
