Now, this is what I like to see, "Gear Show"! Taking something old and making it new without losing its original charm. It reminds me of a good, solid home renovation - you're maintaining the character while improving functionality. You've really hit the nail on the head with this one. That old Japanese flashlight wasn't doing anyone any good sitting in a recycle shop, but you saw its potential. It's all about looking past the surface, seeing what's underneath, and working to make it right - just like in my line of work. I love the upgrade you've given it - a rechargeable li-ion battery pack and high beam headlight, it's like taking an old house and installing new, energy-efficient systems. Not to mention the endurance of this thing, up to 17 hours with the COB LED lamp, that's like insulating your home properly. This is the kind of stuff I appreciate: high quality, durability, and most importantly, doing it right the first time. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see what else you've got up your sleeve! Remember, if you're going to do something, do it right.
Unless that COB array has thermal protection, or is being under-driven, it's not going to survive very long. Large COB arrays like that get extremely hot and need a beefy heatsink or fan to keep them cool.
The fact that both the LED bulb assembly and the COB assembly fit so well... man, i'd wanna say luck, but i know you did your research. Awesome conversion.
Excelente trabalho.
This was probably already mentioned but I didn't read all the comments - there's no way those 26650s have 8.8Ah, most you can expect from that size is about 5.5Ah and that's if they're high quality cells, otherwise it's more like 4Ah.
Man people should look into videos like these rather than some 18 year olds acting like a bird or an NPC.... It's basically an art.... turning an antique onto a modern twist tech. I was initially just into restoration videos to their original state, but now you've opened a whole new genre of videos for me to look into...Keep up the great work buddy.
Didn't you use any resistors, or how many amps does it draw from the batteries? I figured LED's pull as much as they can if given the chance. I would be happy if I got an answer
9:10 Always be careful when you want to mount power modules with hot glue. The heat from a high power circuit board is possible to soften or melt hot glue!
Автор установил мощные светодиоды на радиаторах охлаждения в корпусе без отверстий для охлаждения. Клей обязательно расплавиться при долгой работе. И хорошо если не расплавится корпус. Или сгорят светодиоды от перегрева.
"Gear Show," your recent project demonstrates an admirable commitment to preservation and innovation. Your decision to salvage an outdated Japanese flashlight from obscurity and restore its functionality without compromising its vintage aesthetics parallels the rigorous demands of a comprehensive home renovation. This endeavor illustrates the importance of discerning potential in the seemingly obsolete, a concept reminiscent of my own professional ethos. By taking an item others might dismiss as refuse and imbuing it with renewed purpose, you're not only reducing waste but also creating something of greater value. The upgrades you've incorporated into the design, such as a rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack and a high-beam headlight, are akin to installing modern, energy-efficient systems in an older house. Furthermore, the resilience of the redesigned flashlight, with its capability to function for up to seventeen hours using the chip on board (COB) LED lamp, underscores the same importance of durability we find in well-insulated homes. This project exemplifies the qualities I value most: exceptional craftsmanship, longevity, and the conviction to execute tasks correctly on the first attempt. I am eager to see how you apply your innovative approach to future restorations. Remember: strive for excellence in all that you do.
Thank you, I really appreciate you taking the time to feedback on my work. I rarely meet a viewer like you. Your knowledgeable comment makes my day. I really satisfy with your review. Again, thank you so much!
What a great little bit of upcycling, really well researched and put together. I would have tried to make it water resistant, sealing all the external joints with windscreen sealant (butyl rubber) or something similar, but chap, that's something to be very proud of.
Nice retrofit. But there had to be some dumb luck in stumbling across parts that happened to fit. Thought those kinds of things may have needed more custom fabrication.
I have an aluminum rayovac 4d billet flashlight i want to convert to superbright and rechrgeable with 18650 batteries. Its gonna be tough because it only opens at the handle end. Im kinda watching these videos to get ideas. I would like to make it like one of those old school 1million candle spot lights.

The LED bulb assembly and the COB assembly fitting perfectly is really impressive. This conversion is truly awesome 😮

Outstandong workmanship 👍👍
Nice video. I'm curious why did you add a new button for the second light instead of just using the original 3 position switch?
Didn’t that obvious in the video? 3 position off, half and full brightness
Could've gone the route of "full front - off - COB" but didn't so that explains that.

What is this liquid you used on 03:50 ? Is it polishing clear plastics ?
I also have a flashlight like this. You did great. They gave an old but useful item a second chance.

How many lumens you got outta it? It doesn't look too bright.
Yes, it is too bright. It is good for using in farm.
