While I hate to be the one know it all LOL I’d say that it made a difference because the wealthier you were, the more likely you were to be allowed on deck and onto a lifeboat. Many third class passengers weren’t allowed and drowned.....so in the context of the titanic, it actually makes this song a bit sadder. Still a good interpretation tho!!
