I'm just getting started and I can already tell it's a no nonsense program. It's intensive and when dealing with any medical programs... well we all the professionals working on us to know their stuff. Here's to the current stress for the future success!
You're right. It's tough to stay positive all the time, and I think that's ok. My last semester was definitely my toughest, and my grades slipped. At the end of the day, you just got to put your head down and keep going. And a good vent every now and again.
I'm starting my FIRST YEAR as BS in Respiratory Therapy student and I am so excited! Then I saw this, and I was like "shit, I'll be stressed out for the next 4 years" But I'm still EXCITED. Thank you for your vids! Ur actually the only respiratory therapy focused YT channel that I know. Good luck with your studies! Long live for all that RTs and wannabeRTs!
Hey! Congrats on starting the program! Even though it can be stressful it is still an amazing experience! Let me know if you have any questions along the way and I'll be more than happy to help!
Thanks, you're one of the reasons why I chose Respiratory Therapy coz ur vids helped me know more about RT then I find very interesting and I'm sure that It'll still be a lot fun even with the stressful moments. Keep on doing great stuff!
Thank you that means a lot to me! ❤ I would recommend brushing up on cardiopulmonary a&p along with the nervous system. You can do that with pretty much any text book but if you have Egan's already, I would recommend starting there for a good review. If you happy to like TH-cam videos there is a great channel called Respiratory Review that breaks down a lot of RT related topics.
I’m definitely for the study videos!!! Especially since we’ll be starting mechanical vents and neonates/peds next semester and I’m all a mess just thinking about how I’m going to prepare and study for it. Thankfully I’m on Summer break, but it’s crazy after watching your video how all the stress and anxiety cane back so easily! Haha!
Awesome thanks for the feed back! Sorry, it definitely wasn't my intention to stress you out ☹ I just want people to know that it is normal to feel that way and that everyone goes through it. I hope you are able to enjoy the rest of your break!

I graduated in 2012 and in my opinion the first half of school wasn’t to bad since it was more memorization than anything but the second half was tough. I agree Ventilator settings was the toughest course. My advise if your school has vent machines get your hands of them, pressure settings made more sense for me when I was able to see it in action.
@@pb4ugo19 You should wait, you need to learn the foundations first, ventilator courses are usually towards the end of the program for that reason. If you want to start some early reading, I would focus on anatomy, especially the heart and lungs. When you finally get to your ventilator courses, pay attention to pressure settings and practice as much as your school allows. Good luck my friend!!
We went over the syllabus during a mandatory session, and they revealed that every single test we take in the program is cumulative. Is that how most RT programs' are structured?
Ma'am, you have some beautiful eyes! I've suffered from severe asthma all my life and really want to make a difference in someone's life when it comes to things like that, other things of course but yeah. I was worried about starting college at 29/30 and very insecure about my age but I want to press on and get started asap! I'm a pretty tolerant person and focused, just worried my schizophrenia will try to bring me down more, I've been fighting it since age 10 and manage to be productive in society even just a bit. I'm currently a care giver, but I want better income and a more fulfilling career. Thanks for the videos, I'm glad I found you today!
Hey! I hope you're on your way to becoming an RT now. I read your comment & I'm in the same position as yourself at the time you wrote this. I'm 29 & i have an associate's degree but in liberal arts & been slacking for the better part of 5 years. Went to business school & i quit after 1 year bc I hated the college I was at & I had no passion for accounting or even going there. Since then I've been Job to job. Admittedly I've wasted my late 20s. I get depressed thinking of it at times but I always remember as long as I'm alive, there's a chance for redemption. I too have had asthma since I was a little boy. It's tough. It wasn't until my early 20's when I took the gym serious & picked up kickboxing as a hobby for a few years that I controlled it & honestly kinda forgot about asthma. I always liked the idea of Respiratory Therapy but never knew the name of the profession. I flirted with the idea of Occupational Therapy bc I find pleasure in helping those that need help but I wanted to focus around kids bc I love kids & they're quick learners but the pay for OT in NYC is too low & it's a 4yr program. Before corona broke out I knew I wanted to pursue RT bc there's a community college near me that has the 2yr program for it, the pay is good in NYC for entry & there's job security but since the coronavirus it solidified my idea to pursue it. This pandemic will slow down in the future but the effects will still be there. Hospitals will invest in respiratory experts bc of this lung disease so they can stop it & be prepared for possible future outbreaks so I would imagine finding a job would be easier once I'm certified in 3yrs. My first step will be this upcoming year 2021. I heard it's tough but it's not impossible! Good luck & hope one day we can both say we made it! :)

Do you have any videos on dosage calculations? I struggle with math and I just started the RT program. I love your videos though thanks for the honesty!
Omg watching this brought back nightmares of me first learning mechanical ventilation with my teacher jamy. I think everyone going through this class has doubts and fear of completing that course and it weighs on you thinking can i do this XD.
I am recent graduate and just passed my RRT board exam. However I am not sure how to go on and about keeping my credentials current, anything you recommend?
For CEUs the AARC has a ton of free ones, Vapotherm, Passy Muir, and a few others. If you don't mind paying for CEUs seminars and conventions are a great experience and you get CEUs 😊
Can I be nosey and know the exam grade that you got that made you upset? In the name of helping others feel better who are in a RT program and have also done less than they think they can do on an exam?
I definitely understand but I generally don't give out my grades because I have come to realize they are not the most important thing in the world. Our grades don't define us all they really do is measure how good we are at taking an exam. I have met people that struggle with exams from test anxiety and then go to clinical and are complete rock stars(and the other way around). We definitely put too much weight on getting a certain letter or percent. Another reason I don't talk about them is I don't want to make someone feel bad if I am complaining about a grade I am unhappy with and they received a lower grade than what I am complaining about, ya know?
Thanks I know it's difficult. I've been a CNA got for 19yrs healthcare isn't easy. I'm hoping to start next yr. I have kids and need to work at least 2 days a week. If I plan try to stay positive and committed, I know I can get it done.
You definitely get to know your classmates but it is a about prioritizing how much time you need to study. Everyone is different as well, some of us need more time than others
What do you think of a community college 2 year for associates and working a full time.job? Also I'm so lost how can someone like me in a different job in administration can volunteer where to see if respitory is for me?
Depends in the program. They can be extremely difficult to work full time in, but I know people that have done it. Check the different schools and hospitals to see if anyone would be willing to allow you to shadow an RT at their hospital. If it makes you feel any better, I worked in banking before i was an RT so it can definitely be done
I've been looking into this career pathway for a while now and I am very interested in it and want to help people, I'm up for the challenge, my biggest fear is that I won't have good time management, this may seem like a dumb question but can you work a part time job while studying RT? Is there enough time in the day to work that part time job after classes? I'm still in high school and I'm having a bit of trouble with managing my part time job and school. Any advice would really help :)
Time management is a struggle for everyone in the program, don't worry. Working after school depends on the program hours itself and how flexible your work is. I had a few classmates that were able to work part time or less throughout the program but they said it was extremely difficult.
