    Shawn... I almost bought the Suhr LB with some great IRs, but between your vid and the EXTENSIVE live play vid Michael Nielsen did... it was just a convincer. I use a Suhr SH100 so this'll be brill! I can really appreciate all the time you took filming and editing this! What a great service for us pros and hobbyists alike!

      I've got a Two Notes Torpedo Live and it's really great but UA has really taken it to another level for sure. It's more organic in the way amps respond to it. The software is beautiful in form and execution. The models are the best I've heard.

    ...and THIS is how you do an in depth demo....
    I am prepping to do mine... not sure I can pull it off before Namm... but I‘ll also have to go into pros and cons and talk about the differences with the Two Notes Torpedo Studio... so I am pretty sure my video will be even longer... and I‘ll make sure to refer people to your video as well as another great source and some better playing and different sounds! Well done Shawn!

      I'd love to hear the differences between the Ox and Two Notes Torpedo Studio. Does the Ox have a power amp simulator like the Two Notes Torpedo Studio does if you are just using preamps? I am planning on getting the Synergy Modular Amp System. Thank you

    Nice demo Shawn. It's good to hear a demo from someone who can actually play well. This is a pretty amazing product! It's a lot more user-friendly than some of the alternatives. I do not agree, however, that the reactive load behaves just like a guitar speaker. The load boxes use wire wound ceramic resistors that are physically stationary as compared to a speaker & its coil moving in and out of a stationary permanent magnet. I think the amp can feel the difference. I've got a similar load box on my 50w Marshall and it definitely doesn't sound or feel the same as the Marshall going directly to the speakers. Sometimes you can't use an amp at all on some gigs. This product would be a great way to get a great sound without an amp.

      The quality of the attenuator makes a difference here. I used a purple hot plate on my Bogner Shiva with a 2x12 G30 greenback closed back cab and it always sounded great. If this attenuator is any bit as good as the THD, then I see no sonic issues.

    I'm really trying to pull the plug on buying this box. The only thing that's holding me back is using the OX for live situations, which is most of my playing. You are most welcome, a true gem to watch. I am digging the OX very much; I've made the decision to forgo full-blown modelling, and simply focus on modelling the part is the most problematic to handle at bedroom levels i.e., micing and capturing the guitar cabs.
      Based on your experience & expertise, would it be possible to utilize the OX's DI mode & line outs and hook them into an FRFR, or a powered speaker such as the Line 6 Powercab (Plus), or alike?
      Thank you very much!

    Excellent demo brother.... absolutely spot on... I will be getting one when they are available in the UK. I can't help thinking this unit doesn't have enough outputs... if, for example I wanted to record the two mics separately and have a stereo track for the stereo room or delay channels it would require 4 outs right? I wonder if the SPidif could be used as extra outputs in tandem with line outs? What say you? CHEERS ;-)

    Forgive me this might be silly question, but I’m not familiar with how something like this works. Is the digital modeled sound coming out of your amp, or is that sound just going into your interface into protools and coming out of your studio monitors? I’m thinking it must be the latter but, either way it sounds phenomenal. Thanks the great demo!

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a silly question. The digital sound is only heard via headphones or from the digital or analog line outs into a mixer or daw.

    • @stratomycaster881

    • @TheJeffcurran
      @TheJeffcurran 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Here's how you need to think about this device. Imagine if you had a soundproof closet in your house. In that closet you placed a speaker cabinet(s) and some microphones. In your play room you have some amplifier heads. The closet is totally soundproofed and any sound in that closet cannot be heard outside of the closet. You could then turn your amp head volume to 12 (the new 11) and nobody would hear it. And then you could route those microphones to a mixing console and/or studio monitors and control the volume from there. That's what the OX does. You now have all the sonic wonder of raging tubes and shaking speakers at a volume that won't pulverize everything within listening distance. That my friend is the Holy Grail of playing electric guitar. It's essentially a virtual isolation box. And you don't have to buy 17 speaker cabinets and a dozen microphones.
      That said, I do have one concern. There is NOTHING like the sound of a guitar being a couple feet away from a speaker cabinet. There is a sympathetic "coupling" vibration that occurs when the guitar and the speaker cabinet are feeding off of each other due to proximity. That would not be possible with this device, or any similar device.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only used the OX in my studio. I think it would work equally well in a live setting but it's not as travel friendly as others. I would be more apt to use the Suhr RLIR or the new Two Notes Captor X. Those two units don't quite have the engine that the OX has but they do sound really good and are more of a portable solution IMHO.

  • @tonyz4292
    @tonyz4292 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    question, this seems like its a dumb question but is the sound coming out of the red pate amp while your doing the cab sim comparison, or is it plugged into a computer or something??

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a dumb question. Everything you heard is via the line outs left and right of the OX into an Apogee Quartet interface into Pro Tools. I'm listening via my studio monitors. You are hearing the direct recorded signal from ProTools via what ever device or speakers you happen to be listening to. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Shawn, the output of the ox box is in stereo. Do you know a way to route the different channels of the ox (2xmono,1stereo room)to different channels in the DAW with one recording? Best Harry

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question Harry. The only thing I can think of is to maybe pan your mic blend to the left and your room mic to the right. You wouldn't have post control over your mic blend but at least you add or remove room.

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The attenuation is ok on the OX.
      As a reactive load IR box, it's the best in my opinion.
      The attenuation is a convenient feature but it is certainly not a reason to purchase.

    Thank you for such a great review. Does the Ox have a power amp simulator like the Two Notes Torpedo Studio does if you are just using preamps? I am planning on getting the Synergy Modular Amp System. Thank you

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching Brett. The ox doesn't have a power amp sim because it's truly meant to be used with and take full advantage of your favorite powered tube amp.

    • @BenvanGeest
      @BenvanGeest 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question, Brett, as I want to go the same route as you. Unfortunately the OX doesn't seem to be able to work with the Synergy as it has no input for it. BUT, you might be looking into the Fryette Power Station 2, which DOES have a full valve (6L6) 40 Watt power amp section. This might be the perfect reactive load box/attenuator for the Synergy system.
      Thanks, Sean, for this excellent demo! Your demos really are among the best on the Tube. Cheers!

    Saw this again and noticed you improved it a bit. Question ...noticed that you used Strat like guitars (not really Fender). How do you get such a clean sound? Are you using noiseless pickups?

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what you mean by "improved it a bit". I would have had to delete the video from TH-cam, do the "improvements" and then upload the video again losing all of my views and interactions. It's a longer video so there may have been things you missed or didn't notice during your first view but I do appreciate you taking the time to watch it a second time. I don't use noise canceling single coil pickups. Field hum is quite an issue for me in my room so I do my best to position my self to keep it to a minimum. Over the years I've also developed the habit of turning the volume control on my guitar off while I'm not playing. There is definitely some field hum happening but it's not noticeable while I'm playing and if it is, I do my best to "turn out of it". Thanks for the question and for watching!

    Hi Shawn! Great Demo! I have a question: do you think is it possible to connect a guitar jack from the trs output of the OX to a normal input of other amp in order to slave it? Obviously with no cab simulation, only the Line Output that's coming from the first amp. Thank you so much and keep on doing such amazing videos!

    • @ShawnTubbs
      @ShawnTubbs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for tuning in Sergi and I appreciate the kind words. So you want to set up the OX with two heads, one as a slave? Guitar into the 1st head and the speaker out of that head into the OX and then line monitor out of the ox into another head correct? You could do that but you would want to plug into the effects return of the 2nd slave head. You would only hear the Delay, Verb and Comp to the second head. Basically a "wet cab dry cab" set up. Not sure it would be the best use of the OX though.
