Thanks for posting this. I marched with them briefly in '82 or '83, can't remember the exact year. We played an arrangement of "Just Can't Help Falling in Love With You" that I absolutely loved. One of those songs that gave me chill bumps, every time I played it. My memories are fuzzy but we used to practice at an old school out in the Eads TN area. Too bad the MB corps didn't last longer.
Yeah I was marching with Southwind in 83 and they folded. So I moved to Memphis and we folded too. I was an awful summer for drum corps as I remember. Lots of corps folded that summer due to an awful economy. I play cymbols. That eols school was so spooky! I liked the hotdog shop just down the road though.
This video floored me. I was one of those lucky individuals who marched with MB3 in 1980, the first year the corps came into being. Some interesting facts for you, some based on the comments. MB3 1980 set a new record (which has since been broken) by placing 20th in the Finals that season. The top 20 corps performances were released on LP records. Due to the technology of the time, I never expected to see a video of the performance, and I am truly grateful for this posting. Blues in the Night 1980 was at approximately halfway through the season. We had performed around the country and this was the last show before a much needed break before we began the second half of the season. The reason we were only participating in exhibition was because the host corps of each show did that. This performance was 7-8 months in the making. I never realized how much I had grown as a person from this single season of marching. It had a major impact on all our lives. I have thanked George Lindstrom for his positive affect on my life. There were so many staff members. Forgive my spelling: Lynn Lindstrom, Jeff Kolb, Ken Griese, Steve, and all others that made this first year what it was... AWESOME!
Hey Memphis Blues BB, It's 4/27/2022. I just woke up from a nap singing Limehouse Blues from your 1981 show. I Don't have a recording. I haven't watched a video. It's just been dormant in my Brain-Walkman for 41 years. Thank you Memphis & Roy Perez :)

Red Campbell ...contra bass 1980
I played soprano with them that year, seems like a life time ago. Staying at that old YMCA on South Lauderdale, fun times
I was on the night.. soprano bugle(a two valve trumpet). They called me 'Oklahoma." 😅
...and that was an EXHIBITION PERFORMANCE? How long had they been working on the show, for cripes' sake???
