I am following the Hip Arthritis Recovery Program and doing these exercises every hour 'ish helped me to make a big leap forward in my recovery. It really came together with some supplements and plenty of hydration (also in program) and I had real relief in days. I'm now up to Level 3, I'm a wiggling pro, and use these movements for daily warm up even though I no longer sleep or walk in pain. My pain free range of motion continues to expand. Follow his advice! This really works!😊🙏🌞

Can you share more about the severity of your hip OA? I've been postponing surgery for almost 2 years. I've had about 4 sessions of PT over the last 4 years and nothing has made it permanently better. I feel like I tend to flare up the pain with exercise. My last orthopedic appointment, I was grade 3 with osteophytes (spurs). I want to avoid surgery as long as possible and I'm seriously considering this program.

@@debbiefluegeman3189 I did not see the Dr. for this arthritis flare up, so I cannot give you a rating but can describe it. My hip was personalized by a car accident in 1979, leaving a misshapen femur and Acetabula joint. Despite my prognosis of hip replacement within 15 years I had been functioning for 44 years pain free. With poor shoes and stride I created an arthritis flare up that took me about 6 months to figure out what happened and how to heal. I did not see the Dr because all they see is the misshapen joint and offer zero advice for healing the inflammation.
I began this program needing to use a cane to offload. I should have been using a cane on and off for 6 months. Once I used a cane and began this program I had immediate relief and haven't needed a cane at all after 5 days on the program! Doing easy gentle movements every hour helped my hips feel so much better really fast. But all the advice is important because its all needed to create the healing. This program was the missing link between healing and what I was able to do for myself.
Now I am once again walking limp free all the time and pain free most of the time. I am still building muscles in my leg, and when there is discomfort it's always muscular, and usually I did too much. 😁 My hip joint doesn't hurt at all- I don't even need a pillow between my legs any more.
Follow the whole thing, the supplement suggestions were amazing, the nutritional advice, all of it was very worthy. This program worked for me.

I have gotten serious about doing the “hip wiggle”. As simple and painful as this is, it really is helping. I’m sleeping better at night. I’m also very conscious of sleeping with a folded pillow between my knees or under my affected leg if I’m on my back. Thank you so much for these suggestions. The hip rock also feels pretty darn good. I’ve been dealing with worsening hip osteoarthritis over this past year.

I have pain from even the most basic exercise, except the wiggle. I have bursutis and occasionally sciatica along with the arthritis in the groin area. The kneeling/rocking not at all. I guess I have to stay very simple to see if the pain recedes. Some days life gets in the way and I simply have to be on my feet more and I pay for it later or the next day. Not giving up, but it's tough.

Start with one or two exercises, beginning with the smallest range of motion and the lowest intensity. As you feel stronger, you can gradually increase both the range of motion and intensity. It’s best to do these exercises every day throughout the day. Aim to tire out the muscle without losing form or control. Consistency is key. Always avoid working through pain; soreness and mild discomfort are normal, but pain is not.

well... I sure am glad I found you here.
I live in the u.k where advice like this is severely lacking via the physio route.. ... I have had 1 hip replacement (due to a labral tear which I was told was not treatable in any other way)the op was and still is very successful and I'm glad I agreed.
4 years later the arthritis in the other hip has flared considerably ....probably because I've been trying to walk too much...(yes I saw a previous video on that !) I've not been offered an mri yet ....so I'm gonna take on board these exercises.....thumbs up from me and gratitude

Hi Ruth, You can skip this exercise if necessary. Right now if you find one exercise you can do you want to try to do that exercise throughout the day as often as you can. Just be gentle with yourself. You can try gentle hip hinges as an alternative to the hip rockers. you will hinge at the waist and bend over about halfway and come back up. If you feel any pain do not try to push through it. Rest and then try another exercise.

not severe pain but some restriction and some movements hurt - the wriggle is great, twice a day, the lying on my back one is easy (I have another one where I cross the bent legs there first which seems more effective, and the one on all fours is difficult even on my soft bed because of knee damage, can't figure out why I am not getting very far baek/down - will keep trying (twice a day)

@Guyalexandre I ended up having a hip replacement on Oct 23, 2024 3 weeks ago. While PT helped me relieve my pain for 5 years, the facts were that I had no cartilage so I was bone on bone and the Femer head the round ball that forms part of the hip was deformed and no longer round. When they operated on me they found a lot of chip bones inside the socket as well as some bone spirts that had formed, touching nerves around hips and causing pain. At this point stretching, exercises even NSAID medications were no longer bringing me pain relief. I could barely walk 1/2 a block with a walker. Now 3 weeks postoperative I can walk a 1/2 mile with walker pain free.
I suggest you work with a good orthopedic.

Hello, can I please ask your advice as I have asked a Dr and they weren’t helpful? I am waiting for a knee replacement and I get numbness/pain down the outside of my other thigh the deepest sensation is at the top of the leg, if I ignore it and don’t lie down it becomes a searing pain, is this a hip problem that will disappear when my knee is replaced? The Dr said it was from my back, I don’t think it is. Thanks

Does anyone know if it's beneficial for hip arthritis to do "hip thrusts" with weight at the gym?

    • @epmanualphysicaltherapy
      @epmanualphysicaltherapy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Hi Eric, this is a good question. You can do hip thrust if you aren't experiencing any irritation. It's important to NEVER try to work through pain. Mild discomfort and soreness are normal but pain is not. If you feel any discomfort or pain skip the weight and continue with the hip thrust but the main muscle groups that should be activated are the glutes and abdominals. If you feel more sore in your quads and hamstrings then you could be exacerbating the situation.
