    Something to keep in mind with Warehouse 1 is that it's all aged there on the island, whereas the vast majority of Islay scotch in general (including Laphroaig) is matured on the mainland.

      Thanks Nixon! I'm glad you enjoy the channel and get value from it. I will say, this one grew on me but it's still not my favorite

    My favorite Cairdeas was the one with Triple Wood. Had the best mix of sweetness and salt water marsh funk.

      It was SO good. I actually just drank it last night at the whiskey vault

      I wish I got another bottle of that one. The one bottle I got emptied too quickly.

    2021 Cairdeas all the way! Sipping it a bit by bit so I can make it last

    Would be very interested to do a comparison between this and the 16 YO since the only difference between them seems to age. But I tried them side by side and they're surprisingly very different! Please consider doing an episode on this sometime!

    Thanks for your reflections here. I love the caskstrength 10, but this did sound good. Thanks for sharing!

    I have to take an opposing stance to the Marker's Mark and Warehouse Location you count as detracting points.
    1. The Maker's tie-in may be a bit of a name drop, but it's true. They've been using them for their bourbon barrels for over thirty years. Not to mention they are wheated bourbon mash. No high rye, that tells us a good bit of information right there in expected flavor profile.
    2. Warehouse locale. Would you have given them more or less slack if if was Warehouse 4 across the road? It's a single warehouse blend (possibly just academic as we cannot compare it readily to another warehouse to see any differences. Looking at Wild Turkey/Campari and their Russell's Single Rickhouse edition priced at $250, I think Laphroaig did a decent job of holding at that $100 price point again this year.

    I actually like this one more than the 10 CS. The one I didn't bother buying (after tasting) was the Cask Strength Quarter Cask they released in 2017 - another not very special one. Of course, my favourite Càirdeas is the 2013 Port Wood Edition, closely followed by the 2020 Port and Wine Casks...

    Released a few months ago for the 2022 Feis Ile festival. Showed up at my Costco today for $85! Have seen it at some stores for the same price as the 10 year Batch 14 Cask Strength. Tough choice. The Quarter Cask is a good value for slightly less.

    I’ve tasted the LE Ardbeg’s at bar first and have been very underwhelmed. I even went into the year wanting to get them all. I will say that at least they tried to do something different. Great video and glad you called Laphroaig out for being lazy. Proud of myself I passed on all of those LE’s.
    More curious to see the Bunna 12 CS as I had a similar reaction to your initial tasting, but a month later it opened up very, very nicely.

    I've started watching the yearly releases for the Diageo Special Releases, Laphroaig now that I've tried the PX one, and I'm trying to get this year's Russell's Reserve 13.

    Looking foreward a lot to the Cairdeas release every year, tried them all and the favourite is the 2013 port😋
    This one is also very good, top 6👍🏻

    I liked this release, thought it tasted a little like burnt rubber though, which was a little off putting. The 2021 release is still my all time favorite and my local Wegmans still has them in stock for $99

    I've always liked the Cairdeas for the money, they are always affordable and different. I, too, am not impressed with the location of warehouse... Regarding batches, they are hit and miss but that's the nice thing about Laphroaig and this series, it's available and affordable. Last year's PX was really nice, imo.

    Ya kill'n me Bill! This was my first time being able to get my hands on a bottle of Càirdeas. I live in Canuckistan so you can guess that I paid too much for 2 bottles. I haven't opened one yet but it seems as though I got in on the wrong year.

    To me, batch releases are mostly unobtanium and therefore, meh (especially Ardbeg). If there is a distiller I really like and am lucky, I appreciate it. Otherwise, I simply appreciate what is available - generally, we are pretty fortunate with availability of core products. Some of my favorites are the experimental (experiential) barrels that Laws does in CO - some of the best bourbon/rye bottles ever. Will still pick one of these up as a Christmas gift for a Laphroaig lover. Thanks for the review and Cheers!

    I love the LE’s but I don’t love the LE’s price typically. Ardbeg’ s cost 300$ by the time they get to me, Laphroaigs are usually always around the 89-100$ mark which is similar to the ECBP which I love little higher but it is imported. I love the Laphroaig 10 Cask Strengths batch 14 I really loved so I’m in on this one and the cask strength is the exact same price here. My biggest disappointment was the Laphroaig 16 as it just wasn’t high enough proof. Excited to try this and something should be said about just how Avalible Laphroaig makes these.

      @@TheWhiskeyDictionary Well, the Cairdeas WH1 is good, BUT I prefer the 10, especially when for the price of the Cairdeas I can get 2, 10’s with change left over.

      @@TheWhiskeyDictionary Lore: I don’t find it much different from the 10, but my brother says I have an unsophisticated palate. IMO the 18, Qtr Cask & Triple Wood are better since they’re not like drinking a “slightly different” 10. They’re flavor is all Laphroaig, but they’re a greater departure from the 10.

    I think these yearly releases have gone down hill over the last couple of years. Scotch in general has skyrocketed in price and we are definitely seeing diminished returns. That’s a big double negative that is very disturbing to me. I don’t mind paying more for a quality product. I don’t enjoy being fleeced. So for me, I am going to stick with the “tried and true” core line with most distilleries that I enjoy. Hopefully these distilleries will get their act together and deliver some product that truly warrants the price tag.

    The 10 cask strength is my favorite whisky and the fact that they watered this down was really disappointing

  • @jacobhubbard617
    @jacobhubbard617 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just get annoyed when you don't see where the price comes from. They don't give an age statement so its probably not going to be that, its not the ABV as the cask strength 10yo is cheaper and it can't be the casks because its just the normal casks. Why does warehouse one make us pay so much more, what does it add to the flavour?

  • @wisgisipper6890

    Going to skip this one, not intriguing enough to pull out $100 on it. Would like to get the PX finished one. I did stop the craziness with Ardbeg committee releases and sticking with core range there.

    Awesome video! I was wondering, why do you think that all Laphroaig's are aged in ex-MM casks? Wouldn't it make sense for at least part of them to be aged in ex-Jim BEAM casks?

  • @TheReal_DeanD
    @TheReal_DeanD 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me I'm done with these annual releases from Ardbeg and Laphroaig. They're getting up there in money. Warehouse 1 was $120 plus tax from big retailer Total Wine. In 2019 these were $89. I wouldn't mind paying the $90 for it but $120 plus tax no way.

      Fairly simple. When the blend was being created, they sampled many blends. The one they liked the most was #69

    Warehouse 1 is an oak bomb....Not balanced well at all. The 2021 PX cask was just as bad, the px was way to overpowering. The sherry cask is much better.
