I cannot thank you enough for posting this absolutely brilliant live album. It was one of my mom's favorites and she played it endlessly on the turntable in the 70's. But it's tricky to find this recording on any platform now. Bless you!
Gone 26 years today, but never never have you been forgotten Carmen McRae! Oh what a great singer you were! Singers today don't sang and nobody will remember them in the future, but you you will always be remembered and rediscovered time and time again.
I fear that music this good may not continue to hold sway, As Time Goes By. For Heaven's Sake, I sincerely hope not. All future generations should know that artistry and beauty were once in abundance.
Impossible to have a favorite Carmen McCrae album but I must confess that THIS IS It. I have 2 copies of this diamond, vinyl, of course, the over-played hiss and scritch bears the seasoning, as does Carmen's voice, and I am immediately in the present moment with her. A still unopened vinyl, bought new years ago, is reserved for (if) the old vinyl is framed and hung on my old man hermit wall. I was fortunate to see Ms. McCrae perform live 6 times, twice in San Francisco, one with Esther Phillips! and 3 times in NYC, once at the Bitter End, and twice at the Bottom Line, one of those times Esther Phillips walked on stage in the last 3rd of Carmen's set. It was the last time I saw Carmen, as well as Ms. Phillips live. Thus, "Last Time for Love:" also at The Dug:: th-cam.com/video/MfNGF_KIWko/w-d-xo.html Carmen singing Monk tunes! perhaps 2nd favorite but, again, impossible to have a favorite with her many albums.
Perhaps my favorite of Carmen's sides. Certainly the most heartbreaking. She's playing piano too...she was the young girl pianist at Minton's between Bird, Diz and Monk creating bebop. She married Klook...like I said, she was young.
