*Multan was native place of ancient Mali Malav Gana people, who were residing in and around Multan and Sangam areas of Ravi and chenab since time unknown in ancient Punjab.MULTAN derived from Mali +sthan =Multan. Mali Malav Gana people faught with Alexander's army in 326BC and Alexander started his malian campaign against them and attacked their fort like structure made up of mud near Ravi and a fierce battle was held and Alexander was seriously injured by an arrow of Mali Malav people, then his infuriated greak soldiers brutally killed Mali Malav people and their women and children, many Mali Malav women burnt themselves to save them from greak soldiers and this was first recorded jouhar in Indian history.After this defeat, Malav Mali Gana people migrated in present day Rajasthan and Malwa and further in Maharashtra and later spread in other parts of India. Present day Hindu Mali caste people in India and Maliar caste people in Pakistan are really descendents of ancient Malav Mali Gana people*
