Yes. This show is more faithful to the modern comic storyline compared to any other animated series. Hamato Yoshi and splinter were never separate beings they were one the same, something the 2003 version missed the point on and instead did alternative twists that still made it work
@ well actually splinter started as being a separate character from Yoshi in the original comic, and that’s what the 2003 version was based on it’s it was based more on the original comic than the ‘87 series (especially since the comics author was heavily tied to the 2003 series), HOWEVER Splinter and Yoshi being the same character I do agree is better and makes more sense (even in a series about humanoid turtle ninjas)
I wanna clarify that Shredders plan with the mutagen was only to use Karai as bait cuz he knew the turtles would come to rescue her, and he also sprinkled in some snake DNA into the vat so that whoever falls it would turn into a snake since theyre known to eat rodents, like rats. The plan was once the turtles showed up, he'd toss them into the vat and turn THEM into snakes, and once Splinter shows up to come look for them, Shredder would send the mutated snake turtles against Splinter, and have his brother get eaten by his OWN CHILDREN.

2012 TMNT is so underrated and I’m glad it’s finally getting more attention. Also the reason why Karai could turn back into a human after being mutated was cuz the mutagen tank she was dropped into was accidentally mixed with retro-mutagen, which can turn mutants back into people. But because Karai was mutated by both, she became a mutant that could switch between her human and monster forms
Didn't realize there was retromutagen in the tank! I just thought it had to do with the fact that it was a very specifically spliced mutagen to turn the turtles into snake mutants

2012 TMNT is not underrated. I love this show and grew up on it but it’s easily one of the popular shows of the franchise

That original TMNT comic was such a whiplash for fans of TMNT who was introduced to the franchise through cartoons.
They killed nearly 20 people in just the first few pages of the original comic

Wanna make it clear, this wasn’t a “the next episode started with her in the hospital” scene. She was straight up dead. They had to perform cpr on her for a few minutes (on screen) to bring her back. So technically she did die
While I love the 2003 show, it really did bug me that there was no "true" Shredder.
The one we knew the longest was just using the name & title for his own ends, Karai was larping as The Shredder symbolically, Cyber Shredder BARELY got any screentime and The Tengu Shredder (who IS that universe's *original* Shredder tbf) was only around for a single season.
So seeing the 2012 Shredder was a breath of *fresh air* in that regard.
And, yeah, he was an absolute *diabolical hater* , but I love how there are layers to this Shredder. You get the sense that, unlike most of the 2003 Shredders, this guy still has *some* humanity in him still. Not a lot, but you could see that once upon a time he was a somewhat decent person who just became consumed by hatred & spite.
And that's what, in my opinion, makes him both terrifying and interesting:
He's not an alien, a robot or a demon. He's completely, disturbingly, *human.*
How splinter turned into a rat is that after the incident with tang shen, splinter decided to go to america to start a new life. He then bought 4 baby turtles. He then saw 2 strange men (aka the kraang in their human disguises) carry mutagen in an alleyway. Splinter went to go see what's up. He was quiet but was in contact with a rat (by touch and the squeaks blew his cover.) The kraang saw him, try to jump him, but the mutagen fell from one of their hands and it splashed on yoshi and the turtles. By the touch of the rat, the rat dna turned him into a rat and the turtles became their mutant forms. (Starting as babies till they grew up.)
Fun fact: The final season had him come back a zombie/demon thing that the TMNT had to put down again, however it was rushed because Nickelodeon was probably already working on ROTTMNT

After tigerclaw smoked the turtles, he wanted karai to finish them off, but karai tried to fight Tiger claw, got washed, and taken to shredder. Shredder confirmed splinter was her father and then has tiger claw throw her into the dungeon.

In terms of Shredders, if Tengu Shredder is Madara on crack, this 2012 Shredder is an evil Might Guy. Pure taijutsu, pure skill. That was before the mutation.
Just to tell you. This version of Splinter was the GOAT. CJ made Shredder look like a menace, bit let me tell you. Whenever Splinter had to get involved & fight, he was the GOAT while everyone else was the fraud. Even Shredder couldn't take him equally when he was human. Hell, even when he became Super Shredder, he still struggled against Splinter. Splinter was like the godfather to all mutants, so when he died, every good mutant heard about it & came to his funeral.
Yo this was literally the longest and craziest trial in the history of CJ’s channel, I gotta give him credit for that
Crazy thing is that it didn't even matter that they killed Shredder, he won, he got what he wanted and killed Splinter, he don't care what comes after that, he won and killing him won't change that. It's like when the Avengers killed Thanos after he already snapped his fingers.
Yeah even after they kill shredder nothing about it even changed so yeah in this case the villain has won not only he killed splinter but he took away the father figure for the turtles and for karai and she never grew up with her father anyway which means she is pretty much an orphan now and the turtles are as well and no he doesn't come back anymore this version of splinter is permanently dead he's in the afterlife now
He didn’t even cover the time shredder came back as a demon in this show, The last 3 seasons of the show is a multiverse saga because the creators of the show wanted to take it into more of a darker story but the producers were like not happening
Edit: it was one season that had multiple arcs in it and were deemed by Nickelodeon not canon it had 20 episodes most fans felt that it was rushed

And he is one of the only versions of shredder that actually won like yes he killed Master splinter two times and even after he died to the turtles he still won he succeeded in killing Master splinter and I got to say why don't people make shows like this anymore like really just where are they

2012 may not be as strong as Tengu, or smart as Utrom, but he’s the pettiest of all shredders

Not that it really needs to be said, but this isn’t even the last we see of the 2012 Shredder. Later on in the show (SPOILERS, btw), the Shredder gets resurrected by Kavaxas, the lord of the Demodragons of the Netherworld.
Even though it was only a few months, to Shredder, it felt like he had been dead in the Netherworld for millennia/eons. With new plans to conquer the world and get revenge on the turtles, Shredder was now an undead zombie monster with the magical powers of regeneration and telekinesis. And of course, he still beat all the heroes in a fight with ease.
In the end, Shredder sacrificed himself to take Kavaxas in himself back to the Netherworld because he eventually decided that he’d rather be in Hell than in the world of the living.
The way the mutation goo works is that you can turn into a half human half "whatever" creature based on exposer from outside DNA.
So for example, the reason baxtor turned into a fly was because when the goo exploded on him, a fly landed on him, so the goo combined him and the fly into this gross human/fly hybrid.
Y'all should have listened to what he said at the very end of the video. He said he will release more than one video every month until the summer. He's not sure for the entire year.
