I feel the exact same way about the braids. As long as it’s not mocking or there’s no harmful intentions, I feel like braids shouldn’t be so controversial. Like on the topic of clothing, the way I don’t think it should be restricted by gender. Maybe I’m just uneducated, but as a black woman myself, I am not offended by the hair. Whenever I see a kpop idol w/ it I think it’s cool, but then there are others that go to war because of it and it makes me question if I’m in the right or not. Please guys, I just want everyone to get along here 😭

I hundred percent agree and it often leads to conflicts with my fellow friends who are black women ( I am also a black woman). If the intent was not malicious or mocking or anything of that sort,,, I genuinely have no problem with people who aren't black doing/having braids or any other hairstyle that may be for black people. Often I feel a sense of pride when a non-black person has braids.

i agree for most but to say its like a clothing? i had to disagree on that sis im sorry. Theres a lotta us struggle at their job bcs of our hair either its locs, rows, fros etc sayin it aint neat or some shit, its not something we can take off.
and for the non-black artist rockin braids, locs, fros i agree im not cool with it but its ok as long as they aint do no harm or else. sure theres a thin line between cultural appropriation and appreciation, but as long as they aint do no stupid shit or sayin some stupid shit, FOR ME its alright.

... She is just wearing a ponytail with braids. In Spain we have traditional regional hairstyles for festivities where we braid the WHOLE HEAD and wear braided buns (this hairstyle is Iberian, pre roman colonization) BRAIDS are european too. I don´t know what else to say. Honestly, those are not "african braids", she has just braided a ponytail. Sumerian women, Greeks wore those braids, turkish women, morrocan women, roman women, celtic woman... at this point is just complaining. Traditional korean hairstyle HAS BRAIDS. Look it up, it was worn by them as well, not in the same style as african ones but braids are part of traditional korean hairstyles. So thanks for your positivity, but people should study history and anthropology.
This song is a bop and she deserves the best.

Lisa is Thai and Southeast Asian, where braids in various forms has been part of our culture. Not invalidating the feelings and struggle of our black friends but most of the time, a lot of the accusations of cultural appropriation comes from a heavily Western/US-centric lens that it does not take into account experiences outside of that context. This is my opinion of course. Thanks for this reaction. I enjoyed the video.

I think the issue with the braids is that when other cultures wear them they are admired but when black people wear them we are told that it’s dirty and unprofessional. *This is the American system that is fvcking it up for black ppl* not the other cultures or other countries outside the US. The braid talk was such a new fresh perspective. I think everyone is so focused on hate that we forget the beautiful part of it. Dont get me wrong there’s definitely people who use culture in the wrong ways and often more than not in american society, if you’re white wearing something from another culture, you get better response than those who’s culture IS that.. But hearing you talk about It reminded me of how the vikings showed native Americans how to braid their hair and they showed them how to add feathers as decorative in their hair and shower them their spears. I totally forgot about that until i heard you talk and it reminds you these things should not be hated but appreciated!

7:42 dude, thank you so much for your take on this. I'm so sick and tired of the haters out there always crying and screaming and trying to divide everything, Your thoughts are exactly how I think, we should be learning from each other, sharing with each other, caring for each other, that's only thing that will stop the constant conflict going on in the world. I think some small minded people think that somehow sharing things from a culture with others is some how going to destroy ruin the culture or something, these people need to stop. We constantly have wars over people not understanding each other throughout our history. I always been an independent thinker, trying to see all sides to every situation and take the good from all sides while throwing away the bad, but so many people especially these days take a side and totally put down other side 100% and ignore the fact that their side also has their issues acting like they are gods above the rest. If only there are more people like you in this world who can appreciate different cultures and share instead of hating and fighting. Blackpink is amazing, one of only groups i know of who literally borrows idea's from every culture around the world, not just musically and instruments but style as well.

Like in my perspective Lisa wearing braids; she wore it in an appreciating way. If she was wearing the braids now and doing like black accent then I would have said she is wrong but she did nothing more than just wear the braids and that's it . The other thing is that it's ok for them to take things from out of our black culture as long as they DO NOT do it in the wrong way and vice versa because countless amount of time I see some of us black take things from their culture and they say nothing harsh to us or cancel us, so honestly I didn't see the need of them bashing Lisa and plus by the end of the day none of this cultural appropriation thing is carrying none of us to heaven gates. God will not say"oh you stand up for braids so your going to heaven", or "Oh you went in their culture so you're going to hell", Like some of y'all need to get a grip of yourself, it's not worth it.

Because I'm white and I've experienced white privilege my whole life, it's not my place to comment on cultural appropriation. But having 2 grandparents who are first generation Jewish immigrants from Isreal to America, I feel honored when I see different cultures and nationalities adopting aspects of the Jewish culture as long as it's done in a respectful way. I know everyone doesn't share this viewpoint and I 100% respect this and I might be disrespecting my own cultural heritage, but I can't help being pleasantly surprised when someone has gone out of their way to understand and embrace an aspect of another community. I feel like that open minded way of thinking helps connect us as an entire society.

I am also white and am just now hearing about the concept of white privilege. I didn’t even know something like that was available to me. I would like to start using my white privilege now. It sounds like very useful tool I could’ve been using. Who do I talk to about cashing in on my white privilege?? Is there a number I can call? Or, how exactly does this work?? As somebody who has been using your white privilege your whole life, surely you can help me claim mine. Cause it sounds fantastic. Almost sounds to good to be true. I wonder if it is too good to be true? Hmmmm

Actually, Lisa and Hyunsuk came from the same entertainment (YG). YG musi, swag, stage presence, and styling also are sometimes inspired by Black Culture. The label under YG that is incharge of producing Blackpink and Lisa is called The Blacklabel. And i think from the name itself, producers there are inspired by mostly hiphop, rap and Black culture

Thanks for your coherent thoughts on this overblown issue of cultural appropriation. Naturally, we must all be more sensitive in the words we use and how we behave, but wearing braids or singing “missing you” should be a compliment, and an indication of the reverence people feel about the music/ culture that has come out of the black American experience.

I heard about the braids issue and same with everyone I dont see any reason for it to be an issue since Lisa didnt have those braids to mock anyone and personally I love those braids but because a lot of people make an issue out of it, even though I wanna get one but Im afraid I'll be criticized about it. Well.. I just love this video.. 💖💖💖

actually, Hyunsuk was wearing a hat, he wasn't doing braids on his own hair but the hat was designed with braids(they didn't customised it but actually an original product from a clothing company) and people spread create hate on it I don't understand why people always doing sh!t like that same goes for Lisa she even apologizes for this particular video bcoz many brainless people and her own toxic brainless fans create the issue... What's more, the irony is that people were happy seeing Lisa apologize for things she didn't even do... I mean many black people appreciate it and then on Twitter, there are these groups of non-black people creating issues using it and many fools follow them to exaggerate it... CA is not really a thing in real life but a thing started from Social Media Platform by people who actually aren't even related to the said culture or things...

Cultural appreciation. My best friend in kindergarten was black and i loved her braids and her hairstyle. But my asian flat hair cannot handle that type of braiding and her mom explained that to me. My friend javonte, really loved my straight, smooth hair. I told her when my mom curled it, it went back to straight but she loved it. I honestly don't care what race wears braids, or have straight hair. Just do you boo boo
