      Well at least he wasn't demented at the end, I don't know if he was actually smarter when he was younger but he seemed pretty competent here. And that's certainly better than barely even knowing your own name when you go.

      @@mico6155 There are different cultural and personal interpretations of what death means. Neither your nor anyone else's perspective and emotions are invalidated by the existence of someone who interprets things differently.
      Indeed, one way to look at it is that this makes everyone's emotional journey more unique and, therefore, more precious to preserve.
      I would just ask you to reconsider using "autistic" in such a pejorative and condemning way. It's unjustified, it's uncalled for and, more over, technically incorrect, as what you describe is sociopathy anyway (and, in either case, autism or sociopathy, is it anything said person has any capacity to control, so any condemnation is, by definition, useless anyhow).
      Let's not turn our individual grief into a fight. A fight that cannot even be won, as there are no right nor wrong answers to how someone takes a loss like this.
      Because my own interpretation here, for example, is that this can be a reminder to us that all of our time here is inevitably limited - so let us not let the small unimportant stuff block the bigger important things that matter. We, sadly, don't really have the time.

      The only square number where a square OFF the corner makes a prime number is 4 (2 squared), where removing a square is obviously 3, but that would be the shortest playable game possible in Amazons (First player moves into the gap and fires onto the square he vacates, leaving second player unable to move, and thus first player wins). What you actually did is one extra square ON a corner, which does occassionally produce primes, as in the example you cite when n=6.

      That's also a sphere. The wrap around functionality is the same for both but a torus is much longer along the x axis before wrap around compared to the y axis.
      On a sphere, both the x and y axes have equal travel distance before wrap around. Because the board of Amazon's is generally a perfect square, meaning both x and y travel have equal distance till wrap around and sphere is the correct categorization.

    • @shadyradwan261
      @shadyradwan261 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@MrHyde-fu5sr hey there, it cannot be a sphere, actually you cannot transform a 2D square into a 3D sphere. You can transform a square (or a rectangle) into a torus. The dimensions of the torus depends on the ratio between the length and width of the rectangle. Let's have a thought experiment. Pause the video on the board, and imagine rolling it up around the x axis (screen width) and then wrap that tube in the third dimension around the y axis (connecting your ceiling with the floor). Now try moving from one edge to another. You will come in on the same row/column (depending on which edge) on the other side of the board. If it's difficult, try doing it on an actual piece of paper.

    It's really quite an odd feeling when you watch a video and realise the person featured has passed on. Rest in Peace, Elwyn Berkelamp.

    At university, I took an AI class and in place of a final exam, we split into teams and wrote AIs to play Amazons which then faced off against each other in a round-robin tournament. We named ours C-SHEEN for C-based Search and HEuristic Evaluation of Nodes. It was a very winning AI.

    And I was wondering why the title has "final" in it 😔

    how might one arrange the 6 Amazons on an 8x8 board? the 28 square perimeter doesn't divide this evenly. Perhaps 1 on each edge and 2 in the center?

      However you want probably, I doubt there are any "illegal" starting formations

    Ok, here's a question: how many sides does a circle have? I have a theory that a circle has an infinite number of sides. I have 2 reasons for this. 1) you can make a 2 dimensional shape with any number of lines down to 3, but you cannot make a 2-sided shape, anything below 3 is a line, which is 1-dimensional. 2) as regylar polygons increase (decagon, 100-agon, 26000-agon, Tree3-agin, etc) they tend towards a circle unless you draw then the size of the universe. So a shape with an infinite number of sides would be a circle, correct?
