Body dysmorphophobia is insane. It is the same condition that makes people turn up for multiple operations to make changes to their face and body. Some would even say it is very modern and a privilege, though there really wasn't an obvious medical reason. But you start to see these faces becoming more and more unnatural and ask yourself why this person didn't know when to stop. Particularly in the US, and they even more insanely put it upon their children, where boys who are not Muslim or Jewish are circumcised without even a religous reason, or where girls get breast enhancements as present for confirmation.

I feel bad for the old guy. I don't think he wanted his leg amputated for pleasure. What I find odd is that, while it's unethical and possibly a felony to amputate a healthy limb even to a person who suffers from such a severe disorder, it's ok to perform cosmetic surgery on teenagers or on someone who has already had so many procedures that they're almost or totally disfigured.

There are good hospitals in third world countries but there are more people, especially in rural care where the only care they can give is a bed if they're lucky and a sympathetic nurse. Pregnant women die of what in the west are simple complications in great numbers. Others are often ostracised from their family after giving birth due to urine leakage because they couldn't get simple care. Also poor countries do have to reuse articles which are for one time use. Surely your energy would be better spent raising money for these needy people than being fashionably offended.
Psychologists should let apotemnophiles/patients who suffer from body integrity identity disorder talk to people who lost their limbs unwillingly, due to an accident, for example. At least try to make them see how preposterous this must be for a person who would do anything to have their limb back 🙄

theres such a thing as too much political correctness too.... generations/x/y/z are pampered pussies..... ive known a guy like this many years ago... it tortured him. he begged and pleaded n offered to pay me to cut off his dick and smash his testicles and he didnt care how it was done. i first jokingly said 'ill smash it all tween two housebricks for you' ... he was like 'thank you thank you thank you' thats when i realised he was serious .... i ended up talking to him for months .... there was one doctor going to do it for him but i said 'its not summat that can be taken back.... id suggest some therapy first' so he did that n i just stopped hearing from him.... i have a feeling he had some backyard surgery that was seriously botched or even took his life
Last story: Most probably he was told when he was young (impressionable age) that his father was "the devil" meaning deadbeat, irresponsible or something of sort and he took it literally. Tsk!
tbh ive wanted a leg amputated and i still wish they had done it. i took an overdose and woke up three days later with my organs all nearly shut down and the perineal nerve in my leg destroyed.... it was so painful every time i went out for a smoke (in my wheelchair.... i was in hospital for 3 1/2 months) i begged n pleaded with them to either amputate my leg or kill me.... 5 years later i still have my leg and ive lost a lot nearly all the pain in it but im still in a wheelchair coz when im not i can only go very short distances and i look like the hunchback of notre dame .... if they had amputated my leg in MY opinion id b walking now with an artificial limb. in THEIR opinion i still would have had the pain coz my leg was actually paralysed n it was phantom pain. when i was in hospital i wanted to ride my wheelchair out onto the road but there were no paths letting someone in a wheelchair get to the road. guess thats not the same as this story but shows sometimes it IS good to amputate a limb
I mean, it sounds like you've got a legit, non-pathological case for amputation based on real practical concerns. These peeps are balls-deep in paraphilia to the point where it's monomaniacal for them. Nerve damage can improve, don't give up on it yet, try all the physio you can access. But definitely don't give up advocating for yourself.

It is so sad that he was born too soon. I am sure that nowadays he could have found a doctor when still in childhood to help remove his leg... as long as he let them take other parts off him at the same time. If his parents didn't cooperate he may have had to wait till he was 13 but still better than nothing.
