As a Clinical Hypnotherapist I can attest to the effectiveness of these techniques. The mid brain and reptilian brain work quicker than the frontal lobes and can often become hyper reacters that push us into the stress response. Neurons that fire together wire together,....but breathing, movement and mindfull awareness can counteract the unconscious stress responses. The frontal lobes can modulate and rewire the sympathetic nevous system responses and kick in the para sympathetic system. If you find yourself too easily stressed you must also consider nutritional deficiencies as well. B vitamin deficiency, especially thiamine or B1 deficiency can cause pseudo hypoxia in the neurons that stimulate the fight or flight response. It can also cause arythmias, gastro intestinal issues, anxiety and a host of other things including chronic fatigue and panic attacks. A high carb diet will sap both thiamine and magnesium from the body. Magnesium is the calming mineral. Even a subclinical deficiency in b vits or thiamine can cause problems in you brain and body.
Being in health for many years I am so glad to see your post because I agree that B1 and magnesium are incredibly overlooked in the sometimes very serious limbic dysregulation

@@hillarycelery I can make some recomnendations for you. Start transitioning to a ketogenic diet or at the very least limit your carbs at night and eat early. Engage in vigorous exercise if you have the energy or just add in alot of walking. Exercise will burn glutamate whuch is an excitory neurotransmitter. Consider you may have genetics snips which are exacerbating your sleep issues. The mthfr mutation or the compt mutation can affect sleep. Mthfr affects methylation of folate and methylation itself which affects the brain in a negative way. The compt gene affects the reabsorbtion of adrenaline and can keep you wired but tired. Methylated b vitamins will help with the mthfr mutation as will TMG , choline and glycine. Try taking 5 grams of glycine before bed. It will deepen rem sleep. I find that CBD oil helps me sleep as does strong chamomile tea ( for the apigenin) or just take apigenin at night . Magnesium is important to calm the central nervous system. Stress can sap magnesium. Magnesium L threonate crosses the blood brain barrier. The amino acids taurine and agmatine will act upon the brain to calm glutamate excitotoxicity. A short course of ashwaganda taken before bed can counteract cortisol but only use it short term. It is not recommended for long term use as it can cause anhedonia...a blunting of the emotions. Sometimes over the counter sleep aids will have a combo of herbs, magnesium, etc and they can act like mild sedatives. Valarian root and poppy are popular ingrediants in these supplements. You will have to use trial and error to see if you tolerate these supplements. Up your vit D and omega 3s. Melatonin is also usefull but usually you need a comprehensive nutritional and lifestyle approach. Hot showers or baths before bed will pull stress from the body and paradoxically lower your body temp from vasodialation. A cooler body temp will mean better sleep. Get sunlight in the morning to reset your circadian rhythm. When you go to bed do some slow deep breathing with the exhales being longer than the inhales. This will tell your central nervous system to relax. You can also repeat, in your mind, as you breathe ,, " relax , ...relax, relax ," .... or " I sleep deep and and restfully ". It seems like a simple thing but mantras like this are commands to the unconscious mind and they drive out intrusive stressfull thoughts or worries. Without proper nutrition and stress management , insomnia can be difficult to overcome but its doable. Hypnosis or meditation can retrain the central nervous system to relax and get out of the stress response but they are less effective if you are nutritionally deficient. There is a chemistry of calm and a chemistry of chaos ( or stress) in the body. You need to tip the balance in your favour. A ketogenic diet often resolves insomnia. It removes all grains and sugers which can cause brain inflammation and insomnia, but it also provides brain fuel from ketones and is antiinflammatory. It also rebuilds mitochondria as you become adapted to burning fat....as we were meant to. In 3 months you can have a 400% increase in new mitochondria. Trust me...yoy will begin to sleep like a baby but you need to get fat adaoted. It takes a few weeks or even months to rebuild mitochondria butbits worth it. Often hidden brain inflammation and glycation can cause a variety of mental health issues. Grains and sugers are poison to the brain. 6% of schitophrenics have this disorder from just eating wheat. 5% of people have pyrole disorder whuch dumps zinc and b vits from the body. 5% of people are poor absorbers of certain nutrients. If you can afford it then get comprehensive blood work and genetic testing done. Good luck.

This has developed from months of losing more and more sleep, so it has become anxiety over sleep.

The dizziness and lightheadedness are being caused by microwave radiation from cellular devices. Turn off router and cell phone at night AND make CERTAIN you have removed your smart meter from your home. Watch Take Back Your Power on TH-cam. It was made in 2017, won a bunch of awards, talks about the dangers of this issue. If you live in an apartment building you may be exposed to your neighbors' meters also so you may have to ask them to call the Public Utilities Commission and file a complaint which will force the energy company to come out and remove communicating meters and replace with analog, non - communicating meters. This will save your life. There are class action lawsuits about this worldwide right now. I've been an activist for this cause for the last 2 years. These devices will keep the brain from either producing melatonin or going into REM, which can lead to dizziness and lightheadedness ALSO. Not to mention far worse damage. Proven fact. It's really best if you limit cell phone exposure as much as IS possible in the day so it doesn't t mess with your nervous system and cycles. Use landlines whenever possible, keep phone on airplane mode whenever possible, hardwire your computer at home and throw out that evil wifi router, etc. This will help tremendously.

I have trigeminal neuralgia. It’s also called the suicide disease. Extreme shocks and stabs of pain to the face along with intense burning. These shocks can be every minute for days or months. I cannot work anymore , brush my teeth or eat. If I made any movement I get a sharp stab.would your method work for me ?

"Top down" wouldn't work for me-I wouldn't believe what I said and it wouldn't be enough. "Bottom up" seems somewhat good. I really enjoyed the dysregulation tips tho'. Also bare feet feeling the ground. Deep breathing also changes ph in body, so how would that affect the nervous system?

@Zach, I don’t think so. I haven’t heard too many chronically ill people say they felt aggressive. The nervous system is subconscious, so we’re really not aware of it. You can be calm& at peace, but you’re NS can be stuck in fight or flight. :)

This can manifest as physical aggression, verbal confrontation, or other assertive behaviors aimed at overcoming the threat.
Chronic neck pain can definitely contribute to vagus nerve dysfunction as those with pain may often limit movement or range of motion in the neck, thus limiting activation of the vagus nerve.
The good and the bad...the good: Ben is an excellent communicator, the bad: the jerky video is a distraction not only from his teaching, and jarring for those of us with brain impairment. A good breathing exercise is whatever helps you calm down. You don’t need anything for specific symptoms. As your system calms down, your symptoms will as well. ❤
I use breath work, exercise, affirmations, meditations, and body scans on a daily basis. I have crippling insomnia. Not sure this simplistic plan of things I’m already doing is going to change anything.
