I realized that I wanted to learn so many languages because I wanted to impress people, like: OMG you know portuguese, french, italian, korean, spanish and english. This is not suposed to be the main reason to learn.
I view it more as like, I don’t foresee a time where I’m “done” learning languages. Whether it’s improving ones I’m already working on or starting new ones, I expect to be learning languages in some capacity for most of the rest of my life. So even if it takes ten years per language I could reasonably expect to learn at least 5 languages. I don’t learn with the goal of being a polyglot, but barring a huge unexpected shift in interests, i likely eventually will be.
Yeah I agree, language learning is never ending and there is always room for improvement. If I move on to other languages, I'll most likely take a slower approach and enjoy the process.
this is definitely an interesting topic! tbh, i do want to learn more languages beyond spanish because ive always found them fascinating and i love the idea of being able to connect to so many people around the world thanks to language. but spanish is my top priority. i learn korean on the side, and eventually i wanna learn portuguese too. but i dont know if i'd go beyond that. i wanna be fluent in spanish at least and i'd be happy being conversational in korean as it's much harder and will take much more time. as for portuguese, idk because i'm not there yet! lol i'm not sure how many languages makes someone a polyglot lol but i just wanna learn what deeply interests me! :)
I wanna speak 4. I know 2 fluently already. French is high intermediate and spanish intermediate levels. Id like to get these to fluency. After that... we'll see i probably will, but more passively than these 2.
