It was not a missclick, his goal was to kill his own hatchery so that creep would disappear in order for Dark's Spine Crawler to die and win the game!
But he started spreading tumors after that.. he should have killed them before he fled
@@-Melenik yeah the tumor was super strange. I don't know what his reasoning for that was. THAT might have been the true "misclick".
@@MsHojat Yep yep, his only chance to win was to not make the tumor in the main, and then to have his hatch die

I think, and I'm not sure or anything, Rogue might've thought tumors counted as buildings, and since they are invisible they wouldn't be destroyed by Dark. Maybe.
We obviously want to see the players winning, but draws on the professional scene give some of the best viewing material I have ever seen.
Hands-down some of the best stuff i've ever are draws and the final win condition being met. Such a great sport!

Rogue waited at the top for dark to find him and realise there was NO extractor.
This should've triggered dark to destroy rogues base for the win. But rogue would then start an extractor and defend it until the spines bled out. That's why he sent the queen to his base at the end. To damage the spines faster.
But dark was smart. He suspected rogue had 25 minerals saved and instead blocked off rogues main with the spines. After that he could've just waited for rogue to attack or call for a draw.
These guys have definitively had this happen before against each other and none of them wanted to settle for a draw.
It indeed had happened before, in a very identical fashion in GSL S2 of this 2021. I'm just gonna say this, these two are fricking nuts, unbelievable SC2 level

Well there needs to be some professional 2v2s but they dont happen very often
In the first game, you can see Rogue looking into the future and making sure he gets 25 minerals mined before abandons ship. Really smart for him to know he'll need it.
1:50 the spawning pool is actually placed OPTIMALLY against 12 pool drone pull: It doesn't allow the spine crawlers to get into their best position, and the game will be done long before the pool dies
Did you even see the game? That pool placement was god awful. It creates a space right above it with less surface area

Why would it be if not to counter drone pull? He wasn't like hesitant. He was full on "that's the optimal spawning pool placement, the one I do in my games" etc... You're trying to tell an electrician he's not pulling on the right wires ...

4:39 if Rogue kills his hatch it would get rid of the creep and then bleed out the spine crawlers. but then Rogue realises he has already put down a creep tumor near the spine crawler and there is no way he can kill that tumor.
Can you manually control the broodlings? If so he could of use them to kill the creep tumor.
@@kurosetsuna29 you can. It was a risk to kill his own hatch because he needed to build and defend extractor then. But there were still too many untis on the map. I think he didn't want to risk it.
28 minutes in and the first score finally happens in ZvZ. This bodes swiftness for the rest of the series.
At 32:43 yes, that's how you micro that situation. Lambo was casting this series and when that happened he explained that you want the front to rebuild the moment you start to lose a part of it (so you don't get surrounded) hence you do that full back and forward with the units.
It's strange to watch but it's the correct action.

GSL 2021 Season 2 Ro.8: Rogue vs Dark map 1 was also a draw. It's amazing, everyone should watch.
I understand that ZvT is more dynamic and has greater variety, which probably makes it better in a technical sense. But there's something so incredibly satisfying about watching two of the best Zerg players in the world go head-to-head in ZvZ.
I agree, seeing two players with the fastest faction is quite a show.
A draw actually happened to me once, when all i had was a thor, a siege tank, and a barracks, while my opponent had 2 vikings, and a factory in the corner of the map (outisde of thor reach). None of us had any income, and it became a draw.
I was kinda hoping for a game number six in this best of five. :D
that is actually the first time that I've ever seen a pro game end in a draw so it was pretty surprising and cool!
There is a game with Bly vs Lambo cast by Lowko that has an early draw after ling-bane battles, edit: found it ;)

Check out 45:35 - the banelings get a short speed boost immediately after finishing morphing. This would mean the best way to make banelings connect is finish morphing near an enemy.
Never I expected to cheer so much for one queen and one drone to get there in time.

I've seen a few draws, in early starcraft2. There was a z v t where the zerg player did a queen march and the terran player dropped their main army in the zerg base and they base traded.
After a huge fight in the center as they tried to gain the upper hand and maybe salvage the remains of their bases, zerg was left with only queens to defend the scraps of their base, maybe an evo and a spawning pool. And terran only had medivacas and structures that could outrun the queens.
They called the draw. I'm sure I'm misremembering some aspects as it was so long ago but that was also a great game that ended in a draw

if instead of spreading creep in the first game rogue used his queen to kill the ONLY creep tumor close to the third base from low ground and left Dark kill the hatcherie he would have won
There would have been no creep for Dark to put spines on and unborrowed they can't attack, but well it was a huge thrill to see that game
And at the end, if Dark would have poop creep from an overlord to Root his spines near the extractor, he could have won no?

I had this playing in the background and when lowko said that Rogue is bottom left at 11:40 - I was stumped what does that have to do with anything... then I realized he meant starting position...
Game 1 was interesting. The spines were the main threat but cannot move on the map, and couldn't kill the hive without losing creep!
Would love to keep seeing more Rogue and Dark. They're so scrappy!

I don't understand why Dark in first match didn't just marched 2spine clawlers and kill with them extractor.
Spines can’t attack off creep, since there’s no creep for them to root on they would bleed out

Lowko, I know it's kind of a meme with you how "DPG" frustrates you a little because "Phoenix" is pronounced "Fee-nix", and "P" shouldn't sound like "F"... But the reason for that is because "phoenix" is actually a _Greek_ word (as in; how we spell it is from ancient Greek, not the actual myth of the phoenix... that's Egyptian).
In ancient Greek, Phoenix was spelled with the letter "Φ" (called "phi"), which the Romans adapted into their Latin alphabet as "ph". Through the Roman Empire spreading their language and writing system all over Europe, that's how English ended up with "ph" sounding like "F".
(that's actually the same way English ended up with "TH" and "CH" making their sounds; it was the Romans fault).

Damn, if Rouge managed to kill his base in game 1 he would have won it. The game knowledge and experience you have to have to realize thats the winning play will always be wild to me
This match is like watching Goku and Vegeta spar.
Draws aren't _that_ amazing, but a draw without a Terran player in the game is certainly quite amazing. Probably like 90-95% of draws are with Terrans, I'm guessing? (wild guess) Maybe I'm wrong. Super interesting and crazy game though. Lots of really weird unintuitive stuff to consider, such as _wanting_ to kill your own hatchery.

I suspect Dark's drone pull to have been a bit of a revenge... Indeed, last BO5 Dark and Rogue had (GSL I think?) Started this way:
Rogue 12 pool drone pull goes into a draw. What does Rogue do? Do it again and win this time.

Couldn’t Dark have used an overlord to spew creep near the extractor and walked the spines over?
Nvm forgot about the queen
He had two overlords and three spines though. Couldn't he have leapfrogged his spines forward to get to the extractor? I looked it up, spines outrange the queen ground attack and have the same range as the queen air attack. Even with transfuse I don't think a queen, drone, and ling are beating two spines, not to mention the third would eventually root, and the queen definitely isn't killing two overlords before being killed by a single spine. Maybe Dark just doesn't want to spend the time on that? Or risk messing it up and losing instead of drawing?

In the game of 12 pools you win or you die. There is barely any middle ground and its called Ling bane

so Rogue had enough minerals to build an extractor. If he waits long enough, the spine crawlers will die to bleed due to creep receding after hatcheries are killed.

Without a doubt these two are the best zergs in Korea. Rogue has more accomplishments but it's a toss up. Dark is deadly in mid game, Rogue is downright dirty in the early and a boss in late game
When you smoke pot before casting:
Dark could have made a hail mary with the queen/drone past the spines, kill his own hatchery, leaving the spines bleeding out ;) (slim chances but i think it would have been doable) ^^
I think first one should have been a win for rogue if he would've placed extractor closer to those spines. Queen regenerates, spine crawlers don't (or am i wrong?). So he could've slowly kill those three spines.

It is not a draw because he can still drop creep with the overlord and put the spines on that
No. Overlord can only spread the creep if Zerg transitioned into Lair. There is nothing more he can do to at that situation.
if rogue didnt build any creep tumors, dark wouldve lost. if he uproots the crawlers, drones/queen kills, if he leaves them burrowed, they just die over time because theres no creep. OR he doesnt take out the hatch i guess
