I agree, Peter Zumpthor has achieved an unimpeachable status amongst architects. And I enjoyed your critical presentation. I can't wait for your presentation on Calatrava who is IMO absolutely rubbish, but enjoys similar global status. Albeit for somewhat different reasons.

I dont know guys. On one hand he does enjoy the spotlight and acts arrogantly a bit at times, but if you see his other interviews, he does show his staff and talks unpreteniously. His take on architecture which is grounded on experience on memory is something worrh noting. I dont think his buildings should be judged on appearance alone. Just giving you a different opinion on zumthor.

why do you not love Peter Zumthor, what is not to be loved there?

To me, as someone who dislikes show for its own sake, Zumthor's work is rare in it's evocation of something transcendent, while remaining modest.

I honestly don't understand why he's attaking Peter Zumthor! It is very obvious that he hates his work!, and nothing wrong with that, it is his choice and taste! But, his critic sounds like he has a personal issue with him! it is not objective at all!

he consider only organic architecture, being a rationalist and a poet it’s a unthinkable in his mind

I am surprised by the criticism. And I think there are some good points. Especially about the two chapels. I visited the first chapel and I had exactly the same criticism. How can you create a chapel with natural materials, but design this stupid flat metal door. WTF? The only answer for me is that maybe the triangle was meant to symbolise the trinity and he wanted a break, a separation between the technical society and the religious nature inside. But to be honest, this interpretation doesn't really fit with the emphasis from the outside.
The second one is a reduction of a church. It would be ok, but why these grey "plastic walls"? he used wood everywhere, but the enclosure from inside is grey? What does he want to tell us? The entrance of this chapel is worse than the first one.
The black lily is complete cabbrage. 2d blob architecture? oh come on...

he’s not a cynic this is a protestant chapel not a catholic one, rigourous and pared down, the protestant churches are not like catholic baroque ones, in protestant churches there’s no ‘celebration of life’, I wonder what he says about ando’s churches

there is no "celebration of life" in Christianity period. It is a celebration of death/afterlife.

I wont judge the architecture since I don't feel like it (although I like some of them) but his writings are absolute snobish garbage.
