My friends Dad bought a Meyers 200A model in about 1970. He upgraded the engine shortly after and made it comparable to the D model. I was lucky enough to get to fly in it all over the midwest and one memorable trip from Missouri to Puerto Rico and back. It is undoubtably the finest single engine aircraft of its era.
My neighbor growing up had one and flew it from a 1600 ft grass strip in northeastern Maryland. I don’t know the Vne but his hot low passes over our house were legendary. Still a gorgeous plane to this day.
My Dad owned a 200 in the late 60's. It was a nice plane. Don't know if its true or not, but he told me that the "200" was named for its speed. I remember that it was fairly noisy compared to a Bonanza and had quite a lot of torque effect on takeoff, but it was very fast for the time. My father was one of those pilots who always wanted to "go faster" and sold the Meyers and bought an Aerostar. He owned a couple dozen aircraft all said, and the Meyers was one he missed after letting it go.
I had a friend who owned a Meyers 200D. Fastest single I've ever flown. What an impressive airplane. VERY torque-y on takeoff. You didn't dare firewall the throttle during takeoff. You'd advance the throttle very slowly, and usually by the time you were full throttle, it was time to rotate. I was surprised that there was no mention of the fact that there is a company in Oklahoma getting ready to produce the Meyers again. I saw them and spoke with them at Sun-N-Fun earlier this year. It will have the IO-550, all glass instrument panel, and everything else will be exactly as the original Meyers - except it will have a carbon fiber cowl.
So I looked into that, because I had not heard about another company, getting ready to make the plane again. As I understand it, they are still trying to raise money, but it looks like they’re doing it all right. I hope they can succeed.
@@TakingOff That's correct. They are currently trying to obtain 50 deposits of $1,000. I find it interesting that they want 50 deposits, because 50 airplanes is about 40% of the total number of Meyers 200's ever made! They said it would cost around $600,000 - which if they can do this at that price, they will be VERY competitive with airplanes of similar performance. A brand new Cirrus SR22 is about $200,000 more expensive, and if you ask me, only about 20% as cool.
Love to see this aircraft come back.Judging from the stats and it's safty record it ought to have it's right to build bought back. Such an attractive aircraft too.
I used to work at KADG Lenawee CO. Airport when I was in High school. would go to Meyers Divers airport in Tecumseh MI. There was always a Meyers there getting worked on and at the time a OTW meyers being built in 2012-2013. also had a lot of the original tooling there. was amazing at the time looking back now. they had a 400 Turbo Interceptor fuselage there and a lot of Meyers parts and components there. Al Meyers son was running it at the time.
Sure 'nuff, after. LOL I never saw/knew off/heard off Meyers either. What a great design concept though!! Whats that you say? Dean is buying Meyers, and creating a "Flying Eyes Special Edition"?? Complete with 'Flying Eyes Synthetic Vision'?? Very cool!! 8) --gary
Excellent episode Dan and Christy, thank you. Great to have Dean back on the channel. It was really neat learning so much about the Meyers 200. It's a shame so few were made. Keep up the excellent work as always. Dan, I officially start flight training on 11/10. I am extremely excited to finally be able to chase that dream. Safe skies 🤘🇺🇸🛩️
What a great episode. Thank you for sharing. I love iconic brands and would love to own one but way out of my league money wise. Sigh….. back to the 150 I go 😝.
When I decided to buy my own plane I narrowed my choice to either Meyers 200 or Navion. I bought a Navion because the Meyers 200s that were available were out of my price range. The Meyers 200 is faster but also more slick & slippery in flight. To me, the Navion flies like a Cessna 182, and the Meyers feels more like a Comanche.
I had not know about Meyer until I landed at Techumseh Mills (22T) airport when we couldn’t get into Ann Arbor in 2014. I’m an odd pilot I guess because we are selling our fast Velocity to build a 6 seat Bearhawk because the wife wants to land slower lol
At 03:22, wow!, such a remarkably beautiful set of wings!! Squint 'just' a little, and in the right way, the wing becomes a canard for the XB-70 Valkyrie, or it could even pass for a Burt Rutan design. Someone with musical talent should rewrite the lyrics to the "Oscar Meyer Weiner" jingle, a great airframe like the Meyers, deserves to be more easily remembered/referenced.
Meyers is a great airplane. Could do without your Jetsons and cartoon comments. Would rather have something that is unique and performs great instead of a cookie cutter Cessna or Piper
when did they start putting nosewheels on them. it was such a perfect beautiful airplane with the tailwheel. looks like any other spam can with that big honkin ugly nosewheel. what a shame. just like the RV they ruined it!

What a great guy. Keeping Myers alive and flying... Love that Al was frugal and miticulas builder...

What a great design! Rarely ever mentioned advantages of steel have to do with endurance limit and fatigue.
Great show y'all !

good episode, back to aircraft, which is why I started watching in the first place
We used to fly in a 200. My father made parts for AL Myers. Hey the airport is for sale!
Amazing - historical - great bit of aircraft trivia ... yet, not trivial 🧐✨

One of my ALL TIME FAVS!!
Very Interesting ! Thanks for sharing !!!
I'd love to own a single as reliable as the Meyers. Thank you for a great episode!
Hello from Minnesota USA!! I have a good friend up here in Minnesota that has an Award-winning Myers 200! It truly is an amazing plane!
We had a 1961 (34387) for 15 years before dad went to a v35 sports car to a buick. look at the wing...amazing engineering. Quick takoff and landing.
Back in 70’s I worked with the grandson of Meyers.
Soon as I saw the title, I wondered if this was built in Tecumseh, MI.- 22 miles west from my home. Yep!
I just love you two 😍😍. Keep going with your great program.
What a great looking airplane! The silhouette kinda reminds me of a Navion.
Me too!
I had a friend who had one. When we would fly it, we were often mistaken for a Navion.
I absolutely LOVE the Meyers 200 and drool to own one.
Very cool!! 8) --gary
Used to fuel one when I was a line boy in 1975
The Meyers looks like a brilliant airplane.

That’s awesome! Keep us up to date on your training. Where are you training?
@@TakingOffI definitely will. I will be training at KCXW, Conway, AR with Superior Aviation. Thank you for all your inspiration and encouragement.
@@KevinSmithAviation I just flew over you yesterday returning home in Lola from central Kentucky.
@@KevinSmithAviation I'll be going back to KY once maybe twice in the next weeks. Maybe we could grab a bite? Got any good stops around CXW?
@@TakingOff that would be awesome. There are a lot of good places in town. I have an email address in my about page on my channel.
Boom Boom!! 💥
I never knew a plane called Meyers exist until today. Thanks for a great episode!
Same here, never knew about Meyers. Excellent discussion.
My grandfather owned one. Wish I had a photo of it.
What a great episode. Thank you for sharing. I love iconic brands and would love to own one but way out of my league money wise. Sigh….. back to the 150 I go 😝.
It’s a great airplane. Reminds me a lot of the Navion from the Korean War.

Wonder if it would make a good turboprop conversion?
Does every pair of flying eyes come with a refurbished Meyers?
I know, right??

The Meyers has a short wing span, but a long wing cord. The short wing span of only 30 feet helped in its speed.
Another plane in the same group was the Johnson Rocket! Look that one up!
Faster than the warrior!
The first Meyers was a taildragger! the 145!
Great plane
Who owns the technology for this aircraft? Would it be possible for someone to restart manufacturing this aircraft?
I think there's one in Arlington , KAWO ?
In terms of performance, what does up grading to the IO550 DO?
👍✅ Great airplane, never heard of it but I want one!! LOL
No AD’s wow
Those aeronautical chart pants though 😂
I use my flying eyes ever time I fly.
The Meyers 200 design might make a good kitplane if someone was wanting to bring it back into production.
The Meyers 400 exists. That is what it is.
Where is the beautiful Susan Olivars model she flew over the Atlantic in 1967
The dichotomy of pilots… want to build time. But want go faster…
I have always love the Meyers line. Same group as the Vikings. Misunderstood!
To me, the _Meyers_ looks like a _Navion._
Jetsons? Really? It has large windows so that makes the comparison to a cartoon?

With RVs there is a choice of gear for many of the models
that was the Meyers 145.
sorry i can't watch any longer it is depressing
As they say ,,, OMG
