Logan Quirk well back then Skrillex was too busy going through his emo phase singing for First to last or whatever that stupid band was called.. so glad he grew a pair of ballz.
I think it's awesome that Skrillex is experimenting with different new styles, and it upsets me that people are so pissed about it. Do you guys really want to hear just more of the same stuff? Music is about experimentation and innovation, especially EDM. If nobody challenged typical standards we wouldn't have electronic music. We'd still be stuck in the baroque era where you would be exorcized for playing the diminished fifth. If you want dubstep, then you should do some exploring and experimentation as well. Find small, independent dubstep producers and support them. See if you have any local dubstep DJs or creators in your area and see them live. Skrillex isn't the only dubstep producer. There's thousands of dubstep producers out there who are all looking for listeners.
His new trap style is a lot better than his old music. He plays more of the same dubstep kind of music at his concerts which sets the vibe better than trap music that would kill a crowd
Yeah, I saw Skrillex live back in October and his set was fucking sick. Lots of dubstep, but there was all sorts of bass music. That flexibility gave him the ability to make the place feel more like a huge party than just a concert.
godzillalikespie its funny, when he first let out recess last year, i hated it, and really never came back. i branched out to other artists and shit, and now that im returning, I love it. (not saying the other artists suck, im just saying for some reason i like it now).
The drop from 2:45 is something else Was really crazy about this album when it came out back in 2014.. lots of nostalgia Now I just wish Skrillex made some albums
People just here "Skrillex" and automatically think dubstep.... it could be a hardstyle track and people will say this is the new dubstep becuase skrillex produced it...narrow minded people is all! They are the reason that Dubstep is back underground, which is actually a great thing! The last old Deep Dubstep is great though! I can never understand the bandwagon Bros and Hoes who jock the hot thing and never do any other investigation into music other than whats forced fed to them by the masses..... a little sad but they will be the cause for the 'EDM' bubble to pop which will be sometime this year! too many festivals, paying 200-500 to see the same set of DJs over and over and over! Wheres the fun in that?
Cant we all just agree its music? Like I mean you all have these genres of music and you all fight over "what is the real name." Just shut up and listen to the fuckin music
SilverMistGhost No. Genres and Sub-Genres are there for a reason. So that people can find the specific kind of music that they enjoy. Wrongly labeling a track's genre is as bad as calling a horror movie a 'romantic comedy'.
Literally the same. I didn't listen to this since it came out. In the mean time I've broadened my taste in music quite a lot (from only dubstep, dnb & maybe something else, to covering most of EDM now). And I've literally just randomly started humming this tune, and then said - 'whoa, wait what was that track again?', all I knew was that it's from Reces. Found it and enjoyed it quite nice.
This whole album has grown on me lots as my musical taste has expanded and matured. Ironically all of his other stuff which i loved 5 years ago sounds stale and lame now.
This track comes huge out of left field. As someone that used to be a huge fan of Skrillex, buying every EP on release day, to someone that started to hate him around the time of More Monsters & Sprites, and REALLY hated him with Bangarang, this track is a HUGE shocker. He really explores the roots of dubstep with this track in a surprising way, going back to the 2-step feel for the first breakdown and then pulling some heavy vibes in the second. I really, really like this track; that being said, it's probably the only track Sonny has released as Skrillex that I can really say I enjoy.
TheLegendaryZed I don't know how he explores the roots of dubstep with this song, this song? Secondly, I'm pretty sure he's going for a deep housey feel but hey ho
Alex Lala Yeah as I keep saying, pretty sure this is Tech House. Maybe it's not that exactly but it's definitely way more House than Dubstep. The track is 128 BPM too.
By definition recess is a short break, usually used in court or at schools. All the fanboys complaining need to realize the style of Recess is temporary and experimental.
It's a good song but at this point it's fucking over rated. Now it's just the skrillex name pushing it. I mean, this is just a regular house track. lmao
Recess is such an underrated project. Some of the sounds that Skrillex used throughout the album sound similar, making it a cohesive unit. It's the attention to detail that makes this record work.
At first i hated the album i loved the heavy bass drops but i find myself coming round to the fact that skrillex is the king of electronic music not just dubstep he makes good music wether its meant for a club or some 10 year olds cod montage at the end of the day his music is still far superior in any genre he does it in :D
Dave de armas No, I did not say that. I actually like this. I like the bass drops and I love how skrillex is experimenting with different things. However, I just don't think Skrillex is the king of EDM. I feel like someone like Fatboy Slim or Carl Cox would be because they are pretty much the start of EDM and they revolutionized it. However, I do like Skrillex and his music and his latest album was pretty good (Especially Dirty Vibe and Ragga Bomb, those were sick!!!) and I like his other stuff too, like Bangarang and Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites but I just feel like it's somewhat too much calling him the king of EDM. Also, didn't justice got arrested because they were involved in a fight or something? and there's an A in anymore. Just saying.
TheOfficialAlienate Right, dull kick snare, high pitched choped vocals and mid range repetitive synths on each of his songs..... That isn't mindless at all. Like most Brostep, he was the epitome of mindless.
First time I ever heard Skrillex and I was just thinking to my self, "What kind of drugs would one have to be on to like this?" Then right about 1:01 I was like 'Wow. This is kinda cool."
Tom Schuster you're on a different planet mate. the recess album is fucking boss and sounds very unique. my apologies if we haven't heard of your underground artists, but there's probably a reason for that.
I know this album has gotten so much hate, and I admit that I don't like a few of the songs, but I freaking love this album. In my opinion, Skrillex is just experimenting with different styles, and honestly, a lot of them work. This song is a prime example, and so is Recess. Keep this up Skrillex. I really think it works, and it is just freaking awesome.
All these people talking shit and comparing it to Skrillex old shit, like come on he's switchin shit up, im glad he did, I dont even fuckin like Skrillex but this song is great and the transitions are tight asf, yall niggas needa chill
People plain and simple, if this type of music isn't for you go elsewhere. It's like you picking a restaurant you will eat at but keep complaining the foods bad.
You have to give a track/album a listen before you know whether or not you like it. For me, I typically do not at all like Skrillex's sound; it's entirely too busy and noisey for me, and I find his formula of "growly bass sound followed by rhythmic high-end stabs" to be really obnoxious and tiring. However, if I wrote off all of his work as having that sound, I would have missed out on this track, which I actually find REALLY enjoyable, and I love that he's exploring the roots of his genre with this track. Perhaps in the future, you should say "if you don't like it, don't comment."
the amount of people that hated on this song really annoys me because this is one of his better songs cuz ur ears arnt getting blasted and its still dubstep i dont listen to dubstep anymore but man skrillex is still great
It's bass house with a dubstep switch up near the end. Listen to artists like My Nu Leng, Taiki & Nulight, Hannah Wants, Chris Lorenzo, Wen, etc.... to get a taste. Anyone who is saying this is old school dubstep is wrong lol. Listen to some Digital Mystics, Skream, Benga Loefah and D1 from 2005 and tell me this sounds like that!!

2:45 GOING BACK TO THE ROOTS OF REAL DUBSTEP !
2:45 is just insane and dope asf! Everyone sleeps on Skrillex he's actually very talented and creative
True the drop is sick!
Love ur username
Nobody sleeps on Skrillex he’s the biggest producer in the world
I think this is the best track on 'Recess' album. The bass drop is really sick and awesome!
2:45 definition of old school dubstep
Not really
On God, picture I get in my head every time is "3D Gif Dubstep", the audio personification of "watch me do this sick ass smoothe ass dance move"
skrillex killed it with this, what an absolute banger, UK garage/early dubstep vibes
En pleno covid y sigue sonando este gran tema.
these new songs are really good
Agreed.
Está canción debería ser mas valorada y mas por el segundo Drop que es B-R-U-T-A-L
Don't know why, but this reminds me of "the ps1 crash bandicoot 2's" sewer levels. Goes good with the "wub" echo sound
/watch?v=liBD7BQXz64 This guy just made a remix of the song to sound exactly the same :D
Dude I am replaying the crash trilogy right now and I feel you so much
Michael Bestvina Niiice
Teh Black Ninja Productions Checked it out, now convinced that skrillex is a Crash Bandicoot Fan
That's what my boyfriend and I keep saying.
HE HAS RETURNED!!!
Omfg I have never been this happy!!
Same here :D
never left dude ...
you look a lot like skrillex on your picture
It is Skrillex XD
Kwstasmpa r Its been awhile since he has released new music
This brings me back to the early 2000s when breakbeats and deep house were rampant and rocking the nightclubs.. miss those days!
YOU AND YOUR YOUNSTERS WITH YOUR NEW FANGLED DUUBSTAP OR WHATEVER YOU CALL IT!
Logan Quirk well back then Skrillex was too busy going through his emo phase singing for First to last or whatever that stupid band was called.. so glad he grew a pair of ballz.
oh shit, here we go again :D

godzillalikespie I also have reason it seems like breackbeat
godzillalikespie its funny, when he first let out recess last year, i hated it, and really never came back. i branched out to other artists and shit, and now that im returning, I love it. (not saying the other artists suck, im just saying for some reason i like it now).

The drop from 2:45 is something else
Was really crazy about this album when it came out back in 2014.. lots of nostalgia
Now I just wish Skrillex made some albums
I guess you liked so much quest for fire then, this immaculate vibe
Check out Quest For Fire and Don't Get Too Close! Those are his new albums, And they fucking SLAP
tbh I've never really been a Skrillex fan.. but this.. this.
recess is probably the best Skrillex album
This brings back memories of that old school hardcore dubstep
Guys, stop calling this a "New type of Dubstep" because it's not.
The only Dubstep part in this track is from 2:45 and that's old school dubstep.
Bro this is fuckin' trap
GodOfBarret Bro you do not know what the hell you are talking about do you?

This kinda aged well, 5 years ago I didnt understand this song.
Same
Same hahahaha
Finally get some headphones that register the low ends I see?

The fact skrillex achieved this sound a decade before making it truly sparkle in the current year is insane
Doing my homework has never felt so good right now!
i like it!
like does not capture the love for this song
Damn this guy has developed so much as an artist
This song always seems better in the rain for some reason.
Favorite trap song by skrillex btw!
I actually really liked this song after listening to it a 2nd time. I especially love the 2nd "drop"
This track comes huge out of left field. How?
TheLegendaryZed How is this track even close to the roots of Dubstep? Have you ever listened to real oldschool dubstep?
TheLegendaryZed I don't know how he explores the roots of dubstep with this song, this song? Secondly, I'm pretty sure he's going for a deep housey feel but hey ho

this song is really good if you have a good soundsystem or headphones
the bass is insane
omg 2:45 is oldschool dubstep i need that part longer, wish this whole track was dubstep
Agamaz yep
@@foreignsyndrome no it is proper dubstep future garage is not even close

This song has some crazy elements in the later part and takes your body and mind on a Good ass trip
Thank fuck Skrillex has moved on from his old shit. This recess album is mostly pure gold.
That's exactly what I think! I'm so glad he changed his style, his old music was really bad :P
Liked his old shit better.
Agree.
Evil The Pyro To who?
He's trying something different good for him at least he has the balls to be different unlike so many other EDM artists
I love that Skrillex stepped outside his normal drops and brostep sound, and f***ing killed it!
To clarify, i loved his previous albums, too. Just impressed that he went against the grain and did it well.
i list this under music category 'sick wobs'

"otro género", no sera otro subgénero?
Y tenias razón
At first i hated the album i loved the heavy bass drops but i find myself coming round to the fact that skrillex is the king of electronic music not just dubstep he makes good music wether its meant for a club or some 10 year olds cod montage at the end of the day his music is still far superior in any genre he does it in :D
skrillex as the king of electronic music... are you high, drunk or just fucking stupid?
To be honest... I think Daft Punk or Justice are the Kings of Electronic Music... or Carl Cox and Fatboy Slim.
i agree ever genre he posts in is a fucken banger
Dave de armas drugs are pretty fun
Dave de armas No, I did not say that. I actually like this. I like the bass drops and I love how skrillex is experimenting with different things. However, I just don't think Skrillex is the king of EDM. I feel like someone like Fatboy Slim or Carl Cox would be because they are pretty much the start of EDM and they revolutionized it. However, I do like Skrillex and his music and his latest album was pretty good (Especially Dirty Vibe and Ragga Bomb, those were sick!!!) and I like his other stuff too, like Bangarang and Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites but I just feel like it's somewhat too much calling him the king of EDM.

skrillexes first dubstep song
DropHDGaming this is not DUBSTEP
DropHDGaming first? wot?
K.
not sure if troll or just stupid.
+DropHDGaming it's actually bass house
0:12 that snare is FILTH
This is quite good, good to hear Skrillex is getting away from mindless drops and mid range distortion.
not that his other stuff is mindless tho!
Bangarang is completely mindless IMHO, he got stuck in the own inertia he helped to create.
gaspar30 nah Sonny hes a perfectionist. Every nuance in each of his tracks is deliberate. Nothing mindless about it.
TheOfficialAlienate Right, dull kick snare, high pitched choped vocals and mid range repetitive synths on each of his songs..... That isn't mindless at all.
Like most Brostep, he was the epitome of mindless.
gaspar30 so you think high pitched beeps, tweets, snares and etc are cool and the best way forward?
escuchalo mas de 5 veces y te haces adicto a esa cancion!!
My cat stared at this in amazement for so long, he doesn't even care if it's on mute or not he's just so amazed with the alien and the star stuff

Joe Deery OR you could listen to some more original artists, Skrillex's new stuff is just so similar to stuff that I've already heard.

Skrillex has to do more of this, its toooooo sick. Im not sure what this is called but its deep house to me
it is bass house
