curious that the Artist would use a clamoring eyesore to remind us of something that has already been hammered home loudly and repetitively. Or maybe that’s the point
@@XavierAncarno Thanks! I still wish some of this sort of info was in their videos, but I understand keeping it simple when the video gets so few views.
The work, part two of his ambitious three-part project “The American Manifest,” offers a piercing critique of American capitalism that the artist hopes illustrates the way that seemingly disparate forces have shaped our nation. “It shows the history of slavery and Manifest Destiny and colonialism and imperialism as a interlinking narrative,” Gaines told Artnet News at the press preview for the artwork. “In education they’ve been separated, but the U.S. economy was built on slavery. Manifest Destiny legalized the taking of land from other people.” Another eyesore and earsore to remind everyone, in case we didn't know, that slavery happened. 🙄
How's that critique of Communism in Russia, China, North Korea, and other places going? Slavery that has, and still does, exist in almost all parts of the world. Modern sex slavery and using illegal immigrants for labor is a far more prevalent practice all over the world and in first world countries - or do we want to continue to focus all our efforts on something that was banned over 100 years ago? Shall we listen to the voices crying out right now?
@@mattropolis99 Slavery is awful. Modern slavery is even worse. But the message has been hammered on so hard for so long that it has become background noise. Kind of like how mass shootings or protests have. We consume too much negativity to even be affected by these concepts anymore. In the current landscape messages like this breed apathy. Cool tunnel attraction though. Better names "The Slavery tube" "The tunnel subjugation." "The Shaft of Serfdom" "The burrow of infringed liberty"

I wish this channel had a bit of background and information about the work it features.

Overwhelming. Is everything about sowing and reaping? I think it is.
