Does anybody happen to know if all of the music themes in the Pac-Man games have names, like the original Pac-Man opening theme, it's intermission music, the Ms. Pac-Man opening theme and all of the intermission themes used in it?
That's true for most people who play video games... I'm actually wondering if it could be bad for the heart because you're not actually moving too much except for the hands...
for the part where ms. pac man went through a ghost, this actually happens every once in a while. Behind the scenes the game is mapped in tiles, and a ghost catches ms. pacman when the ghost is on the same tile as her. The reason she went right through the ghost is because ms. pac man and the ghost frame perfectly went into each another's tile without sharing one tile at the same time, thus no collision
Why would anyone watch a four hour video of just Pac man? Well, back in the 80s we did just that. You'd sit there and gaze at the glowing screen as your friend played. If anyone lasted this long, I guarantee there would be a crowd gathered at this brilliant player.
You have a good memory. I ended up watching more than I played. Probably because I would go through my tokens before that brilliant player was even warmed up.
Namco didn't make Ms. Pac-Man. This was an unauthorized mod to Pac-Man by General Computer Corp. And Bally Midway sued over it then in turn settled a lawsuit by Namco by turning over the code and paying royalties on a game Namco didn't make. The player for this video is a patient player using the Grouping Strategy at first.
I learned this all on Netflix’s “high score” documentary on video games! Cool stuff. (You posted this before they gave this info on the new documentary btw!)
Nobody was sued over Ms. Pac-Man. The GCC mod was called Crazy Otto. The folks at Bally learned about it when they were looking for a way to rush a sequel out when NAMCO was taking forever to get Super Pac-Man off the ground. They reached out to GCC about turning Crazy Otto into Ms. Pac-Man. The folks at Bally did run it past NAMCO. The word back from the folks in Japan: lose the hair (Ms. Pac-Man was supposed to have hair) and we'll give you our blessing. GCC was sued by *Atari* over Super Missile Attack.
Actually that myth was busted back in 2017 in a GDC talk by one of the developers. Midway and Namco both helped design and approved of Ms. Pac-Man, and Midway even manufactured the mod board themselves. Mr Nakamura, the game designer behind Pacman, insisted on it being "Ms. Pacman" rather than the original "Crazy Otto" the mod they'd originally planned was named after. "Ms. Pacman" being unauthorized is about as far from the reality of the situation it can be.
I loved how different the mazes looked, compared to the original PAC MAN. Mrs. PAC MAN had better difficulty with the different mazes, while the original, didn’t really have.
it's called a "ghostie". the way the collision detection works on pacman/mspacman means that if you change direction at just the right time there isn't a significant overlap of "hit boxes" so the game doesn't recognise a collision. There are patterns in pacman that use this as a strategy to get a perfect game
Thanks for posting. I spent most of my early 20's playing video games and Ms Pac Man was one of my faves. I actually got good enough that I got all the way up to the banana. RIP Hickory Hollow Mall once in Nashville, TN. They had the best game room ever. Now the mall is totally gone.
believe it or not i used to have a original ms. pac-man cabinet and it worked! the most sad part about it was that my mom didnt like it in our house and she gave it to my cousins :/
It's HILARIOUS that I found my heart rate going up watching this as if I was right in there playing myself. Ms.PacMan was my favorite video game and we played for hours as kids - not because we were as stellar as this player- but bc our after school hangout in my hometown was Square Pan Pizza and they had a Ms. Pacman that if you hit it a rock in the exact right spot between the coin slots, you got a free game. LOL GOOD TIMES...
This is a glitch in the original software code of the game. Under the right circumstances you can pass right thru a ghost. Not sure exactly but something like if you turn a corner within some many pixels of a ghost turning a corner you can pass right thru.
It’s sad that namco doesn’t own the rights to her anymore especially since she’s such an important character to video games in general (for those who don’t know she’s one of, if not, the first female protagonists in a video game)
That is when you consider that Midway Games worked on this sequel by itself with help from General Computer Corporation (GCC), initially christened Crazy Otto, after having previously settled a lawsuit with Atari over an enhancement kit for Missile Command. NAMCO did approve of this sequel, but on one condition: that Ms. Pac lose her hair. Several more Pac-Man-related titles, all of these without NAMCO's initial blessing, had followed in the wake of Ms. Pac's success during the rest of 1982 and in '83: Pac-Man Plus (an enhancement kit for the original Pac-Man), Jr. Pac-Man, Baby Pac-Man and Professor Pac-Man. NAMCO finally had enough and terminated its North American deal with Midway in 1984; however, before NAMCO brought down the gauntlet on Midway, GCC's staffers sued Midway for compensation over Ms. Pac-Man and all other titles it assisted in creating. This tie-up explains why NAMCO may own the trademark for Ms. Pac-Man, but not the program code (same thing with Nintendo and Ikegami Tsushinki over Donkey Kong and its sequel; that is, Nintendo owns the characters and trademarks, but not the program code).
I think it should have been called 'Pac Ma'am'. I was in love with this game as a kid in the arcade. Mom worked in a toy store in the mall and I would just pump quarters into this and others to kill time while she was working, unless of course, a new shipment of Kenner SW toys were due to arrive I'd be there to help go through and put them on the floor and some for me ; ). I have this at home, as well as Pac Man, and I find myself playing this one quite a bit more due to the changing mazes and floating bonus fruit. Watching this video just shows how much work I need to do to master it. Once I get to the 4th maze, I start lousing it up and its game over.
That is a glitch that happens very often in pacman. In some zones of the maze, if you touch a ghost, nothing will happen, just in the case you keep your way and don't turn back.
Intermissions in "Ms. Pac-Man" appears at 4:23 "Act 1: They Meet" after board 2, 15:08 "Act 2: The Chase" after board 5, and at 32:2349:37 and 1:06:52 "Act 3: Junior" after boards 9, 13 and 17 in which Pac-Man appears in the three new intermissions of a sequel version of Pac-Man. And he disappears after all intermissions, as does Junior in Act 3 which Ms. Pac-Man reappears to resume maze game play.
I can’t think of anything more frustrating than playing this for close to five hours, elbow permanently damaged, a welt on your hand and two of your fingers split like Three Finger Brown…getting 86% of the way to a MILLION… And having it glitch out….without even recording your high score!

@@batty2259 There is a good video here on TH-cam about it. The technique is called ghost grouping. On PacMan you could get away with memorizing patterns for each level, but MsPacman brought more randomization to the ghost behaviour so patterns did not work as well. I have tried to do it myself and I can sometimes kinda do it, but nowhere near as good as in this video. My high score on Ms pacman is 200,180.

@@notsadluna8 yup, I've done it on the namco ds game and the pac man galga games for 3ds. I also managed to do it by accident on the tiny arcade version of ms pacman too.
Why does the first screen sometimes have a different set of colours? I've fixed tons of Ms Pac/Pac-Man boards over the years and never had it happen - is it a specific rom set? Or an emulator bug?
Yes, it’s objectively a better game than the original. Because while the original is good, the visuals in Ms. Pac-Man are better, and the fact that there’s more than a single maze also makes it better.
This is one of the few video games my mom will play and is good at. I can't wait for ATgames to go under so Ms.PacMan can return to Namco and we can get a damn maze madness remake.

@@gmoney1065 yeah i know bro. I was just pointing out the irony that clydes the easiest for novice players, but gives the expert players the most trouble. Have you ever watched one of those perfect pac man run videos? It's insane.
One of the greatest arcades of the early '80s.
Its a lot more fun not using this bunch strategy and just winging it. Great test of reflexes and anticipation.
Plus it doesn’t take quite as long!
I agree.😊
This is funny how well he knows exactly what the ghosts will do.
One of the most popular games ever....wore it out when I was a kid...
40th Anniversary of Ms. Pac-Man (1981-2021)
Cool👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Ms. Pac-Man came out in 1982 Actually.
Wasn't Ms. Pacman originally a mod kit made for regular Pacman and later officially endorsed and used by Midway/Namco? General Computer Corporation in 1982, IIRC?
You are a good player, I like and playing PAC-MAN games since 1.980...I spend all my money.
Passionate Pac-Man player I respect that
I remembered playing this game when I was at a Pizza Hut.
I Cant Believe I WATCHED The Whole Thing😘👻🥶Very INTENSE!
You spent 4 and a half hours watching Ms. pacman lol

That’s got me beat from my childhood. When I was a kid in Scouts, we went to a Pizza Hut and they had a Super Ms. Pac-Man there, and I remember I scored over 100,000 before I finally gave up the ghost. It ended up being the highest score. As far as I know, it remain high score until the Pizza Hut closed down.
At 2:24 it seems she went right through the blue ghost. How is this possible?
I V A N Perfect Timing it also happens in the Original Pac-Man
@@notsadluna8 yup, I've done it on the namco ds game and the pac man galga games for 3ds. I also managed to do it by accident on the tiny arcade version of ms pacman too.
It’s called a Booey.
If that was me the ghost would have touched me from half the screen away.
Good Vídeo, Retro Up! My Best high score in this Game: 169530 points.
what happened at 3 hours 23 mins, as it appears that the player deliberately gave up a life to the pursuing red monster...
Why does the first screen sometimes have a different set of colours? I've fixed tons of Ms Pac/Pac-Man boards over the years and never had it happen - is it a specific rom set? Or an emulator bug?
It's a bug, press start as the marque appears before red ghost appears.
2:23 Witchcraft!
(Yes, I know how it works, so don't bother explaining.)
Thanks for nothing nerd
Okay but why don't you explain it for those who would be curious but also pressed for time in one fashion or another?
Ok thanks for telling me😁😁
This is the best version of all Pac Man games. Graphics and sound effects are the best. Ghosts colors are correct.
I love this more than the original
Yes, it’s objectively a better game than the original. Because while the original is good, the visuals in Ms. Pac-Man are better, and the fact that there’s more than a single maze also makes it better.
their are just three different story parts rihgt?
This is one of the few video games my mom will play and is good at.
I can't wait for ATgames to go under so Ms.PacMan can return to Namco and we can get a damn maze madness remake.
what is the deal with 2:24 ?
I could recall play this game all day ever summer in the venus bus terminal in Belize city
According to Don Hodges, levels 133 thru 254 are unplayable due to incorrect jump-to commands that check for a positive-vs-negative condition in their flags instead of carry.
Ah, the days of kneeing the center of the cabinet to reset the high score I'd never hit... Then having the corner store lady yelling from in back not to hit the machines. Good ole days.
The game reset itself at the end like, NOPE!
this is like watching it in the arcade in the 80s! how are they playing this game like this? its just like the arcade ! i tried mame 4 droid and couldnt control it! can someone help guide a technologically challenged old guy on how to go about getting a pac man joystick? or whatever kind of set up that is needed for it to play like the arcade did? i d like to see if i can whoop pac and ms pac again but what is it they are using to control pac man like this?
0:04 no gray dots
Interesting how you instantly start the game by inserting the coin quickly once the attract screen is on.
The first maze will have different color palette unlike it does in the 2nd round
How the heck did you do that at 2:24-2:25?!?!?!?!!!
I also saw that.
You're Good. Excellent. I miss playing at arcade and on SNES.
When my mom used to drag my sister and I to the bar (I was 7 years old) we used to play this all the time.
Are these ghost on drugs? 😂 there’s no way I can stop for more than 5 seconds on the Ms. Pacman in my cabinet!
Who you gonna call Ghostbusters
The only guy in history to play in an arcade for 5 hours on one quarter!
all the noise is reminding me of MRI machines, and it makes me dread my next check-up
Wow the owner of tony's giant pizza had a ms pacman machine that had a little sign taped to the marquee saying if you reach 1,000,000 points you get a free large pizza." ... What a jerk.
How many fast forward to the end to see how this video finished

What level number is the “kill screen” at?
level 256?
Anywhere from 133 to 141.
wanted to know the name of all the fruits?
Please help me to download the original pacman game

Whats the difference between Pacman and Ms Pacman, really?
It really sucks when your hand slips off of the knob when in a tight spot. Back in the day I could top 200,000. Never made it past the second act of Junior.
Thank you for the video of this game.
What level did it crash? Is it level 256?
Late in the game why do the large balls not allow the ghosts to be eaten? Is there a rule when this no longer happens? Is that a bug?
It makes it more challenging. Because what's the point of having a game if it doesn't get harder and harder the further you get?
I'm Hernan, maybe you know me because of the similar way you play, you remind me when I used to play, I put them together the same way and I didn't lose any ghost until screen 18, then the pills had no more effect, and to reach the final there are 141 screens. My game was perfect! to the end on screen 141 ends, resets and the last one is invincible and the screen turns. I was the best player in Argentina at that time! In the 80's I played in Laferrere, Once, in Lavalle, Mar del Plata and many more places. I had invented several routes to reach the end, it took about 8 hours, my maximum perfect record was 957,580, also the score depended a little on the fruit, it was random. Congratulations, you are from my school, who are you?
you're wrong. they don't blink on level 17. but they blink on level 18, and stop blinking on 19,20, and from 21 on when you go slow. are you sure you played the game?

@@ht7157 Your memory must be faulty...If you only got perfect up to screen 13, it is impossible to get 300,000 by 17. In fact, even if you are perfect, it is still not possible to get 300,000 by screen 17.
What difficulty settings do you have in on ?
2:24 you made contact with the blue ghost and it didn’t fail you.
Yea, Inky just felt generous.

Isn't there supposed to be a purple ghost named "sue"?
Yes. I read Sue (The orange ghost in Ms. Pac-Man) actually dyed herself purple.
I was expecting more level color variety the higher you got.

Nice. But why do you do all those tunnel runs? Why not just go around and get as many pellets as you can?
Player is trying to group the ghosts, at least red, pink, and light blue. They'll move in unison when grouped properly, making things much easier to manage.
