I've been a full-time blogger / travel vlogger for 9 years and transformed myself into a full-time travel blogger in the past 3 years. I will teach you how to create a website, build a brand and get you setup on the path to getting paid to travel. When I first started out in 2016, I didn't have a clue about how to take a decent photo and forget about shooting video. Today, I'm proud to say I'm halfway decent as a photographer and videographer and have racked up 800k followers on social and 1.5 million views on TH-cam.

Since starting my travel influencer account, I've earned more than $200,000 from a combination of affiliate commission, paid sponsors, adsense and selling my own products. This is definitely a career that if you work hard and build yourself up, you can easily quit your job and live your dreams.

My advice for any new website is to use Wordpress. First of all, it's free, unlike SquareSpace which costs money to use and locks you into their hosting provider. With a Wordpress website, you can move it to any hosting provider (whether it be Bluehost or Hostgator when you first start out) or WPEngine when you really grow your blog and have a ton of traffic.

The really daunting task is shooting good photos and videos and telling stories as a travel blogger. I started out blogging not knowing a thing about how to shoot photos or videos but thanks to TH-cam, I was able to teach myself everything I needed to learn. I suggest you do the same thing, start searching on TH-cam and teach yourself.
In this video, I walk you through exactly what my steps are to starting and making money with your own travel blog.
I’ve tried almost every possible Monetization strategy and these are my proven methods that work for me:
Affiliate marketing where you get paid a commission for selling something
Paid advertisements like Crest paying me to review their white strips
Adsense revenue which I get from people watching this video and clicking on ads on my website
Freelancing: taking photos, building websites or providing consulting to small businesses
Selling a product: I have a style guide I created last year and it sells a couple of copies every month

Say you want to be a travel blogger, what’s one thing you’ll bring on every trip that everyone needs? A great bag. Imagine you took a different bag on every trip and reviewed it as part of the vlog. I guarantee you’d be one of the few experts reviewing just bags and you’d be able to corner the market. And when you do your videos, it would be really hard for someone like me or anyone else to copy your knowledge base and expertise
Besides travel bags you could also focus on bug spray, sunscreen, backup batteries, etc find something you’re interested in and own it

I'll tell you I wish I started doing this back in college. In college, I started selling computers on eBay, and while I made money, it was a lot of hard work and didn't scale. For each computer I sold, it wasn't adding up to something like TH-cam does.
On TH-cam, for each video you create, you build an asset that's going to increase your audience and your income. If you did 1 video every week of college, after 4 years you'd have 208 videos, of which would probably provide you $500 - $1000 in earnings, at a minimum, and it could be an extra income stream (or full-time income stream if you increased your production quality and volume).
It's all about what your dreams and goals are and whether you want to work for them. It's not easy, but I think going to a job 40 hours a week would be a nightmare.

I have a passion for traveling , traveling is literally my life in summary but in my country it's kinda hard to have an audience unless you're incredibly gorgeous or funny plus there are not many travel bloggers here . All I know is I won't give up on my dream
Maybe focus on your hustle? Think about Tim Ferris and his 4 hour work week. His whole brand is around his drive and never giving up, so teach people how to be as resilient as you are!

$1000 for what? Each trip is different, some we don't get sponsored, some they pay us, $10k to travel. It all depends and only gets better the more you do it and the larger your brand

Guys seriously, if you want to get paid to travel, it’s going to take time and effort. Don’t expect it to be easy. It might take 3 or 4 years but if you put in the hard work it’ll happen. Start a channel. Upload a video at least every other day of the week. Make them fun and good. And you will see progress after a while. Don’t waste time. And don’t make excuses because I’m the end. The good things in life are only earned by those who put in the most time and effort. That’s all I have to say. Good luck!

So earning without a website is good, but the thing is, it's really hard to sell that business.
When you have a website, you can sell the business. I'm selling one of my companies and am getting 3X yearly earnings. You can't do that if you don't have a site where this all happens.

I’m really glad that I came across your video. I have started traveling with my husband for our auto transport business and working on checking off bucket list activities and destinations. Blogging and vlogging have interested me for some time, but the question of where to begin definitely loomed over any other ideas that I have had. Now, with 700 miles to go until we reach our first stop in Texas, I certainly have some specific things to brainstorm. Thank you for helping to narrow that list down. From operating our business, to my personal struggle to downsize to adjust to life in a Peterbilt and so many other things that pop up along the way, I have options for content, but haven’t had the direction on how to sensibly incorporate it all. There's a link in the description with instructions for how to start your blog, but it's going to be up to you to chronicle your travels and make great travel guides. It takes time but you'll get there if you work at it every day.
I was wondering if you could talk a little more about how to look for, identify and contact restaurants and how to properly pitch them to take photos for them. I would love to try my hand at this.
Mike, absolutely, so this is something we are doing for Capture, reaching out to clients in NYC. Essentially we're going through any listing that has less than 10 photos or just bad photos in general, and then are emailing them. It takes a lot of outreach and your success rate will maybe be 1/100 but each client can be worth $100s or $1000s depending on how much work you give them, especially if they need video. Another good tip is to check Seamless.com or some delivery site and find restaurants that don't have photos for their store to contact

Hotels will almost never reach out to an influencer, but rather you need to reach out to them first and build up your network
There are a couple I've seen, but nothing really stands out as an awesome option
You can find most press contacts on the hotel's website, then it's up to you to present a good package for them

Beatrice, what's great about right now is nobody has cornered the new way we are traveling. Where people are staying in vacation homes for months as opposed to weekends, so people need to know even more about places. We're thinking about Palm Springs as a winter rental but don't know anything about what it's like to live there for 2 years

Thanks for sharing...I have been doing a lot of research about travel blogging, i love to travel and i would love to start it as a side hustle, my only problem is writing, i feel like i am not a good writer and might not catch the audience attention with how i pass my message across.
Bimbo, that's great you have the motivation to get going, so I would say just like anything, it takes practice.
If you're not naturally a good writer, then try to write as you speak, it'll come across as more authentic.
And the thing is, when it comes to travel blogging, it's all about the photos and videos, they are "worth a thousand words".

This is great!! I am really considering this for myself as a new career path. I love to travel and help people and I think this might be a good idea for me. However I am not 100% sure what I want to wright about. And with everything that is going on today my full time job might be at risk for me. I would love to do something food based but I don't want it to be just anything, I am a christian and I want to be able to help people and inspire them and just be there for them. I also love Mission work and experiencing the world around me. I have thought of "Dinner and a Show" as a name and just trying different foods, making things at home, and experiencing different sights and and activities from the location that I am in. I know that you explain a lot in your video on how to get started but I and still a little foggy on who I talk to and what I do right from the get go. I wish that I could have thought about this 5 years ago while on the adventure of a lifetime!

I went overboard and bought all this gear that I'm not really using, so instead of thinking about what gear to get, instead I would focus on what storytelling you'd like to tell.
If you like the drone shots that are wide and expansive, go for the drone
If you want to walk the streets and talk over it, then the gimbal is the way to go
I like to buy all my gear at a discount, so I typically buy used from Amazon and use my Prime card to get 5% more off of it

I'm so grateful for this. I've worked in community service for 25 years. In a ruff neighborhood. I've been thinking of changing careers now that my child is grown I'm free to take this step. Is it realistic to be a travel blogger with a full time job?

Maybe if you get the chance do a video/give some advice on how one would go about using google ads as a travel blogger. There does not seem to be any videos on youtube catered towards how a travel blogger should navigate that space
That's a great question and one I really don't have an answer to right now
The key thing is, travel blogs don't make a lot of money, so you need to develop something you can sell:
like a course
guide
tool
Then you can run Adwords to that tool

I’m trying to pin down an idea for ‘how to work around the world’ blog, myself and my partner are sailors who have worked in the med and the Caribbean so far, (stuck in the U.K. atm due to covid) we’re heading out in a year for work but we want to get the blog going before we head out.
What should the blog focus on? Our insta is just travel photos, but should we focus the blog on just “how to?” Or do the product must haves etc?

Where can I get pictures of cities I'm blogging about if I can't always visit that city? (Any advice you give whether they are paid or free images are both ok with me, but free is always better☺).
Also, is there somewhere I can get video to add to my blog if I can't visit that city?
I plan to blog about Traveling to my home state for families with children, but first, I will start with only one city & expand one city at a time. Does this sound like I niched down enough? Or is it too niche that people may not want to read my blog because its too narrow?

You’ve got a great story, I would focus on the Korean community and traveling to really hone in on your brand. Do you know foodBaby? He’s an Asian food blogger and has his kids in all the shots
I would try editing first, then once you get the hang of it hire someone because that’s the only way to scale

That’s a great concept! I would say start local. Focus on your friends in the city you live in now. Get them excited about the content and expand from there
