This is the New Manila International Airport, and it is considered to be the most expensive project ever in the Philippines, it has a price tag of 735 billion pesos, in fact it is actually one of the most expensive airports in the world. The proposed new international “aerotropolis”, or a metropolis revolving around an airport, would involve a massive airport complex consisting of world class terminals and airport facilities, would be built on a 2,500-hectare property with a plan for four runways. There is ample space to construct a high-capacity runway system and airport complex that will ensure the efficient handling of 100 million passengers per year. The surrounding area would be developed into a new residential area and industrial zone with a seaport. All of this will be accessible in less than thirty minutes from Metro Manila, via interconnected expressways and railways- including a shoreline expressway that will cross Manila Bay head straight to New Manila International Airport. Could this be the needed solution to the problem of aging and inefficient airports where flight delays and congestion are the norm? Airport congestion is a serious problem that both airlines and passengers have to face. Currently, Ninoy Aquino International Airport’s annual losses due to air traffic congestion are estimated to be more than 10 billion dollars per year. This will continue to grow unless new airport capacity is built.
The project site is situated along Manila Bay in Bulakan town, province of Bulacan, 35 kilometres north of the city centre. It is also referred to as Bulacan International Airport, though it will be the main airport of Manila in the future. The Bulacan airport project was proposed by Ramon Ang of the San Miguel Corporation; a conglomerate best known for San Miguel Beer and the beer giant of the Philippines. Ang had been accumulating land at the Bulacan site before making the unsolicited proposal. Ang has also reached out to Jacobs engineering group for the design of the airport, this is the same team that handled the world famous Singapore Changi Airport and several other more top contender airports in the world.
Once the airport has been built this will have a huge impact on the world as it would mean that the Philippines is finally ready to rank among the rising economies of Asia. It will boost tourism, enhance the profile as an investment destination, and increase the competitiveness of industries, including manufacturing and exports. It can even contribute to the development of new, technology-based industries. In 2018, the Philippines recorded some 7.1 million tourist arrivals. It is well behind its ASEAN neighbors such as Thailand (38.27 million tourists), Malaysia (33.1 million tourists), Singapore (18.5 million), Indonesia (15.8 million), and Vietnam (15.5 million). If the Philippines is able to reach 20 million tourists, that will amount to an estimated 40 million new tourism-related jobs.
The project is under the “build build build”. That is handled by the current administration, which promises to fix our country’s infrastructure gaps.
But, because of the pandemic, the construction of New Manila International Airport was delayed. It will start its construction in October. Once New Manila International Airport is completed, it is envisioned to be the best airport in the region. President Ramon Ang of SMC described it as the “game changer” of the Philippines.

14 billion dollars is not the budget for the airport alone. It comprises many different projects like:
    1. The airport itself
    2. The aero city (CBD) surrounding the airport.
    3. Train
    4. Skyway extension, etc.

Look at all the developments in the last 4 years, specially from the country side to the smaller cities. 10 years from now the country will do better, and the mindset of the people should change aswell. If the Philippines pulls this off correctly, this could be a major boost for not only their economy, but will also contribute to improving their infrastructure. One you connect a mass transit system to a world class airport, magical things seem to happen. The transit system spreads throughout the city, but more importantly across the island. Maybe I'm just dreaming, but if you look at Bangkok, their mass transit system surpasses that of the US.

For safety reasons and solving congestions of Manila airport... Airport at the heart of the metro's is dangerous to the residents living the area and is not advisable to health due high noise decibels. With the Sangley airport and new Bulacan intl airport completion, i think the old manila airport be utilized as business hubs. Increasing tourist arrival in Ph is was surprising numbers due to Boracay opening and Panglao, Bohol and Palawan. Places like Singapore, Malaysia and other ASEAN countries are connected to each other. They have higher in tourist arrival because OFW's from Singapore, Malaysia as far as Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam can travel by land and are force to visit to another areas for the renewal of visa or passports. Places in ASEAN are inter- connected while Philiplnes is in Pacific side. Therefore they have advantages.

Chinese, Spanish, American and Ethnic cultures make up our country. I have to agree with you on lack of promotion in our culture. I think all aspects of our culture should be promoted. The sad thing is that people or tourists only comes to our country for our islands and natural sites but our historic edifices were often overlooked.

Not only it will promote conservation, but it will benefit the people in many island province in the country.

Both Bulakan International Airport and Sangley International Airport are within Mega Manila and will cater for the combined passengers of the most populous provinces of Mega Manila like Bulacan, Rizal Metro Manila, Cavite and Laguna. Clark International Airport on the other hand will cater for Region 3 passengers from its different provinces and I heard a new airport is ibeing considered to be built in Lipa Batangas to cater for Southern Tagalog Region passengers from the provinces of Batangas and Quezon and the Region of South west Tagalog(MiMaRoPa)

Let’s hope it’s not a national embarrassment like T3 at NAIA. Within weeks the place was falling to pieces and breaking and the escalators and air conditioning never worked. It’s one thing building new facilities but if the quality isn’t there and the expertise to operate them is run by unqualified idiots, you still end up with an airport ranked at the bottom.
I pray that instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, they look at Singapore’s Changi as it’s example and replicate that - it’s proven to work and is the best there is. That would be a massive improvement for the Philippines.
