As someone whose first exposure to MLP was actually G3, I find it pretty refreshing that the show leans more into casual, slice of life scenarios. I found an article from April that announced that there would be forty episodes airing throughout the year so hopefully the audience will be able to grow
Exactly! Like, as a brony myself, I like it so far, but we're only two episodes in; it's a bit too early to give any solid opinions on it, but I think the MLP community should take the blinders off and give it a chance. It's a cute, simple, episodic-style show that's trying to be its own thing. Sure, it'll probably never reach the almost mythic status of Friendship is Magic, but I have a feeling it'll get close, given enough time.
So one thing I gotta mention after the G4 purist tangent . . . FiM was really good, and there's nothing wrong with missing it. There's no reason to disparage everything for NOT being as good as FiM, because holding everything to that standard is an unrealistically high bar. But it was really nice. And I miss it.
Great review! I’m happy to be getting another horse show in general. I love the character designs and my favorites have to be Cocoa, Candi, Cheri, and Perla! I’m also getting nostalgic because this isn’t the first time I’ve loved MLP and another horse franchise at the same time. When I was a kid, I enjoyed MLP G3 and Horseland at the same time. It was the best of both worlds and feels like you have two cakes instead of one. That being said, you can absolutely love multiple franchises at the same time without stomping on one for having similarities in any way.
[Headcanon]: This is just a prequel of "A New Generation", set in another earth pony town (happening in between The Separation of the 3 Tribes & The War). -> There is still magic. But because of the cast´s nature you will never notice. . The cellphones & other modern tech was available to everypony even before Twilight´s Invisi-bubble [it was actually imported from EQG]; the reason only pegasi still have it in G5 is because they got more engineers & technicians surviving the conflict (flight), to pass down the knowledge.
not trying to be rude but genuinely your headcanon wouldn't make much sense its clarified there horses and not ponies, yes there the same species but its like hares and rabbits ones bigger than the other.
For me it's a change from My Little Pony, Wild Manes even if there are only 5-6 minutes of sketches, it's still pleasant to watch, plus it will allow me to do Friendship Is Magic again even if I've already watched it 6 times since last September
why is mlp fandom acting like this is the new big thing it is just a little girl’s show probably made to sell merchandise girls like horses and hairdos 💀
I'm so glad to see some people give this show a chance. I actually thought this was a sweet first episode. And while FIM is also really good I really don't get why people are convinced that other pony shows can't be just as good as FIM. If the people producing the show care about it and put enough effort into it then I don't see why other pony shows can't be just as good as G4.
I don't know anything about horses, but I do like carousels/amusement park stuff. Got Wild Manes recommended and thought it was neat each horse is a carousel horse.
I really really love wild manes!! One of the eps came in my recommended and i assumed it was a mlp rip off, gave it a chance anyways, and instantly fell in love :D its not like mlp at all aside from being a pony cartoon for girls and its pretty cute as its own thing! I like how simple it is and how well the characters interact with each other. I do agree that bailey was a bit boring though. Im a sucker for sufer dudes and beach stuff, and when i saw the show had that archetype i was excited, but she really doesnt do much :S Overall i think its really neat and i hope it continues to grow a fandom!!
i agree 100%, i could always use a simple, cute, chill animated series to watch if i need something to make me smile. i love the art style so much as well, i like how it leans more on the realistic side which is much different from MLP.
I really don't mind the show at all. I've said it under another person's video, we will see how it develops over the time it releases. Till then, judgement is unfit. I also love the designs, they look like horses for once. I love the mlp designs, but I also don't mind seeing actual horses. Edit: I also think yeah, good that we get competition, maybe Hasbro will finally make something good again.
That bit about G4 purists is never something I thought I'd get to hear. The purest Bronies should enjoy all pony content. This problem also applies to Pokemon. The Ash and Friendship is Magic eras have both come and gone. They had well arranged emotional endings that were put together with care. Wanting Ash and Twilight back means we've learned nothing.
Going into this, I heard that people were using Wild Manes to shit on G5. Now they're shitting on Wild Manes and comparing to FiM? I may not like Wild Manes all that much right now, but I'm not going to go compare it to the other horse shows. Unless it actually starts encroaching on G5's material beyond just the TH-cam marketspace.
I don't compare this show to anything pony. Just judged it on it's own. I can say it's not the strongest point to have your very first episode before we even know the cast to be a miscommunication episode, but it wasn't too bad. What I DO think is bad is the second episode did the same here and we enter with the action already unfolding, only to flashback to "How did we get to this?" In which we see that, only to REPEAT what we JUST SAW like 3 minutes ago. For a five minute cartoon? I really don't think they should do this. I'm really hoping every episode is not like that, but I've got a bad feeling they are.
Believe it or not, just because someone doesnt happily lap up any slop thats put in front of then doesn't make them miserable. Theres nothing wrong with having standards. I tried watching an episode of WM the other day and barely got halfway through before turning it off. While the character designs and animation are decent enough, those are really the only things this show has going for it. The writing is exactly the kind of uninspired mediocrity one would expect from a kids show and relies heavily on girly stereotypes. This of course comes in sharp contrast to FiM. I might try one more episode just to give it an honest shot but I really dont see this as being something that is aimed at any demographic other than young children.
@@JudasRapidFire If you don’t like Wild Manes, I understand. But its shortcomings have nothing to do with FiM! FiM didn’t somehow ruin the rest of the horse shows, and Hasbro certainly doesn’t have a copyright on horse shows. It doesn’t have to be like FiM to be enjoyable.
Wild manes is cute, but I feel it has the same problem that G5 pony currently has-- the 5-minute length episodes are not enough time to really build up a story. Everything else seems fine. I even like how the episodes start In Media Res and then goes back to show how they got into their current predicament.
I wouldn't call myself a G4 purist... I mean G4 will always be my favorite, but I'm not expecting every horse cartoon to be the same as it. When I first saw Wild Manes, I thought "huh. This kinda reminds me of MLP" and that's it. I wasn't even aware there were people getting upset about it???
As a parent, this show severely underestimates their target audience. The stories are too basic - some pre-school shows are wittier! The characters are too simple - Bluey demonstrates that you can have complex fully developed characters in kids shows.

Give it time, Wild Manes is still in its infancy. Give it enough support and this will find MLP-level success.
Agreed, Wild Manes has potential, just let it grow into something on its own. Seriously, the MLP fandom, moreso the G4 purists, need to chill out.
it is probably not even made with mlp in mind bro 💀 it’s for little girls who like pretty horsies
