You forgot to mention that at the bottom edge of the resistor there is a plastic clip which it snaps over and into and holds it in place, you have to push the lip of the clip downwards with a screwdriver in order to release and slide the resistor out, also take the electric plug off before releasing the clip because it is very difficult to do if you slide resistor out first, there simply is not any room at all to manage it, BE WARNED VERY VERY TIGHT SPACE ( UK RIGHT HAND DRIVE 2004 L322 ) also because RHD you cannot remove heater vent that comes from heater box, it just is not possible, the resistor sits tucked right behind it. Also on my vehicle there are no torque screws holding the resistor in place, the two holes you can see on the unit simply slide over 2 locating pins.
@@theonlywayisyeshua8180 Glad I have been of help, also OBSERVATION!!! My Range Rover is a 2004 TD6 L322, if I switch my engine and ignition off and sit in my car for approximately 15/20 minutes the small fan that you mention buzzing behind the heater control panel switches itself off completely, I assume it remains off when I have locked the vehicle ( I haven't sat in the vehicle with locked doors at the time of writing this comment ) also if I did I would sit in the rear seat because I believe the drivers seat has a sensor that knows you are sat on it, and so also maybe passenger seat has one ? I DONT KNOW ? Also after locking vehicle, when I open the drivers door next morning the same little fan that makes the buzzing sound is running, SO ! either it reactivates and runs constantly or intermittently throughout the night when doors are locked OR ! When I unlock vehicle and open the drivers door it activates it ???? If I get around to it I will investigate further 🏁
Hi ! at 2.35 we see the resistor in your hand ( thanks I didn't know where to find it) The 2 torsen screws are not part of the resistor as the resistor goes in place with a " klick".The screws come from the heater housing, as you will see ones you try to get them back in the place you think it belongs to. 2.28 Thanks!
Thats strange, i changed lots of l322 resistors (petrol and diesel) and they all had screws. Do you recon your one was played by the previous owner?? But thanks anyway, E mechanic.
My vents are just hot but not blowing. The control panel is not working. No fan and no adjustment of the temperature. I'm guessing it's been disconnected to stop it draining the battery. Do you have any thoughts on this. It's keeping me awake at night. It's a lovely beast apart from the bonnet struts and the heater control panel it's perfect
That's the idea, but it is just as often the HVAC Control Panel itself. Please start with the resistor as it's a fraction of the cost (£30 compared to a minimum of £150) of a used/salvaged HVAC Panel. Upon removal from many L322s, the HVAC panel will often have a refurbished sticker as it's such a prevalent fault. Usually cased by simple dust build up in the sensor fan.
I had a hdc fault on dash when I start the truck also says transmission high gears will not work due to hdc So this morning mechanic guy says alternator is good battery is good somehow the code went away on dash But not sure if because we disconnected the resistor u are showing here is why it came on cause I’m trying to make sure that is by battery drainer But I originally thought it was bad alternator or battery cussed if the hdc code on dash came On idk I wish I knew what else cause hdc fault

Yes you can however you cannot if you remove it. you would not be able to use the HVAC panel and in some cases, the fan will have continuous air flow to your vehicle when driving so i wouldnt.
There are 2 options from the heating units which is the HVAC panel and then the resistor. If you have checked the HVAC panel and its working fine, then you have a resistor problem. You can also also plug it to a diagnostics and finally you can measure it with a multimeter.
Hi I own a Range Rover 2004 L322 TD6, I haven't used the car for a while and the air con is refusing to blow cold, I had the air con re-gassed a year ago and it worked perfect, I have checked and can see that the clutch on the air con unit is not spinning so obviously it isn't pumping, also the vehicle has always had a big voltage drop problem on the bateery, even after I put a new battery on it after a long run the next day it would read only A Quarter of battery life but it would start the car OK, NOW that I have not Been using it much it is obviously flattening battery after a few days, Any help and advise would be greatly appreciated, Regards Andrew
Hi, if you saw my first video th-cam.com/video/XVYgXdXdmg4/w-d-xo.html and you dont have that problem, then there is a high chance that you resistor is gone. Hope this helps.

Thanks for this info about the clips, you made a hard job that slightly bit easier

What's the test for diagnosing this resistor as the issue, before going through the expense/time of replacing it?
If you have a diagnostic machine, plug it in your car.
A scanner will test the resistor or show it as defective?
Great video, thanks for the info
Glad i helped
Would this still be the same on a l322 2012 ?
Unfortunately no.
Does this work on 2011 model TDV8?

Yes it might be disconnected, have you checked part 1 of this video as it will help you with control panel removal and plug disconnection.
Will

Run correct with out the resistor connected ?
No it wouldnt
will changing of this part fix, always running of hvac panel fan ?
Yes it will

hello, could you send me a video of the resistor for the land rover sport l494 2014, thank you in advance
Hi, unfortunately i haven't removed L494 model. Sorry.
I had a hdc fault on dash when
I start the truck also says transmission high gears will not work due to hdc
So this morning mechanic guy says alternator is good battery is good somehow the code went away on dash

But I originally thought it was bad alternator or battery cussed if the hdc code on dash came
On idk I wish I knew what else cause hdc fault
Was the resistor the problem? We had the same issues as you've explained with the HDC code.

Can the car be driven without the resistor replaced
Yes you can however you cannot if you remove it. you would not be able to use the HVAC panel and in some cases, the fan will have continuous air flow to your vehicle when driving so i wouldnt.
How do I know its the resistor thats draining the battery?
Can I messure it?

Have you plugged the car to any diagnostics?
Much easier for RHD
But does this sort the problem out or is there something else causing this problem
